Yea I'm getting into metal, so I'd like to know some good bands. I already know:

    Metallica
    Dragon Force
    Maximum the Hormone
    Cannibal Corpse
    Slayer
Mayhem (*looks at their song titles* wow, just wow)

    36 Crazy Fists
    Opeth

Those are pretty good. I can't think of anymore at the moment, I'll edit with more bands later.

Drowning Pool, Nightwish, High and Mighty Color (Japanese).

I highly suggest Nightwish, though. Dark Passion Play, in particular for songs. :3

will edit with more, completely spaced out.

Edit: KMFDM is a really good one too.

And for whoever said Rammstein below me, while they sound good alot of their song are more degrading to women, more so then rap I have heard.

Seconded. Also, if you find you like Nightwish, I would suggest Epica; they've got a similar feel to Nightwish.

Otep, would be one at the top of my list.

As I Lay Dying, and Secrets Kept In Suicide are also at the top of their game.
But to listen to SKIS, you have to go to their MySpace. D:

    Slayer
The Melvins (weird, yes, but they still rock)
    Anthrax
Anything that's mathcore (:gunwtf:) eg. the Dillinger Escape Plan. It's not exactly likeable, but it is fun.

I saw you mentioned Mayhem @.@... The whole Norwegian Black Metal thing is a bit too much for my taste.

I think you might want to try listening to Revolution Mother.

I can't stress how kick ass they were at Warped Tour in California.
If you like hardcore metal / rock / punk rock, you'll love their music.

If you like Japanese music then Maximum the Hormone and STANCE PUNKS. If not, then I can't really recommend any.

    Rammstien...best. German. Metal. Ever.
Errr...Flyleaf(not exactly metal but great band anyways).
Dragonforce(if you can keep up with teh uber powermetal).
There are plenty of others but I'm lazy right now. There's a song...Citizen Soldier. Sadly, I forgot the name of the band who plays it...
