Aww that's lame. Engineering professors should understand that engineering is the most enlightened of all disciplines! Science is mankind's greatest achievement, and applying science to the improvement of the standard of living of the common man is the most noble of endeavors. But hey, like I said, you're goddamned brilliant, so I'm sure once you power through that course you'll be on to bigger and better things that are more relevant to what you wanna do. You have a whole class on vibrations? As in electronic vibrations? As in the electron energy transitions induced by infrared radiation? I f!cking love that stuff. Regardless, a good professor can turn an awful course into an amazing course, so that's great!

It's all macroscale physical stuff. I used the same equations in electronics when we were doing signals and stuff, which I also thought was basically sicknasty awesome. As a mechanical engineer, we never really get too deep into anything atomic scale, which I'm basically all the happier for. Quantum is so annoying.

QUANTUM PHYSICS. I LOVE THAT SH!T. But yeah, macro-scale is in all realism more relevant to real life. Tell me, what kind of job is your dream job based on your major that you're pursuing? Your ideal occupation. Lay it on me.

Designing industrial or rescue robotics. If I really wanna reach, I'd even add their space equivalents. But that's not really all that pressing for me. I want to be an engineer because I want to help the world. I don't want to help individual people, I want to make the world a better place as a whole for people to live in.

You are precisely the kind of engineer I respect the hell out of. A lot of the engineers at my school are nothing but frat bros. And there's nothing wrong with being a frat bro, but the frat bros at my school do literally nothing but drink. And hell, I love drinking, but I get work done. They just drink their livers to death. /rant

But yeah, good for you, my friend. Space equivalents? As in stuff akin to the Mars rover, or stuff that would be aiding research on the International Space Station and whatnot? Or both? Hell, my knowledge of engineering is very limited. Your interests sound really, for lack of a better word, interesting.[DOUBLEPOST=1366528528][/DOUBLEPOST]
I don't believe you for even one second. You liar.

But really. What was your old username? Because I KNOW I know you.

Ahah, you remind me a lot of myself from back in the day on this forum. How have you been?

I know what you mean about frat bros. Half of them seem like a waste of matter to me, but I've met some in the engineering frats that are basically, good productive people that happen to be in frats also.

The ISS has some mechanical arms to do certain work outside but they still have some stuff they need people to do and it's pretty fuckin dangerous. It'd be like a far more challenging version of any industrial arm because of the way they need to cut weight and moving parts so much out there.

I read a book on the first mars rover recently, written by one of the guys at JPL who actually was on the project even, and that's what made me start looking into space stuff also. I happen to live near a NASA office, too. But for now I'm actually doing research work at the campus microrobotics lab.

Yeah, agreed 110%. College, at least for me, has really taught me that people are far more than labels. I used to be a shamefully closed-minded person as far as prejudices to certain lifestyle choices go, and while some frat bros certainly are wastes of matter and energy from our precious universe's limited supply, some are great and genuinely intelligent people who just like to party. And I respect that.

Holy hell man, you're doing some hardcore stuff. That's pretty awesome. So you like the idea of bioengineering? It's a total guess, but based off of what you've said and what you're describing in this post, that's what I sort of gathered. Feel free to tell me otherwise though ahah.

If you ever meet anybody who needs a human test subject for anything related to prosthetics and stuff, refer them to me. I would love to trade my limbs, organs, and other miscellaneous body parts for the opportunity to do contribute to that kind of science.

That's fantastic! Would you care to tell me more? It's fine if you don't care to indulge, since we don't know each other so formally, and even on that level, we're only internet acquaintances, but I'm genuinely interested in how your life is going.

I suppose I'll just give you the full recap then.

Remember that girl I liked? Turns out she's bi and just leans toward men who aren't me. Later, I got sperm donor zoned by her, moved on, then fell for another girl. Six months later I confessed and it turns out that she's gay. Got sad for a few days, then very happy because that means I have a female friend who can appreciate my love of yuri. I plan on trying to set her up with the aforementioned bisexual friend. In other relationship news, I suspect that I have fallen into a mutual crush with a girl who's just as shy as I am, if not more so. This kind of sucks because the semester is almost over and we've said less than seven sentences to each other.

In not relationship related news, I had a job from September through late December last year. I had to quit because I only took it to raise money for school and I don't see any way to work night shift when I have a class as 2:00 PM. Because I made less than $6,000 from that job last year, I somehow have the biggest tax return of my whole family. I'm getting something like $745 back, part of which will go toward finally getting a PS3 and the rest of which will be my con-fund for Matsuricon this August. Thanks to rushed Sunday evening/Monday morning papers, I'm currently at the top of my class in the English class that I used my aforementioned job to pay for. As a personal project, I also studied Brony culture for a few months. That led to watching their beloved show for science, and then the science took over.

And that's that. I think I've covered everything.

Oh! I've also been playing Final Fantasy XII. It's fun.

Here's a gif with an unexpected ending.

That damned anime. That. Damned. Anime. I have the whole series on my HDD, but I never get around to watching more than the first two episodes. It's really cool from what I've seen, though. I like the general mood and the writing. Sh!t's chill and interesting as hell.

Agh, I'm sorry, dude. One of my friends who used to go on this site had a similar dilemma, but he's a great dude, much like you, and it all worked out for him in the end. So don't give up! You can do it! I'm single too, we'll work at this whole women thing together!

Wow, though, hearing that you're at university-level is weird. I mean, I knew you when you were starting high school. I be damned, man. What are you studying? Where do you work? I wanna know the details! I haven't gotten updates from you fine people in ages!

Also, that gif. That gif really made me re-examine my life. It's so... powerful. So moving. And hilarious.

Yes! We shall beat this loneliness!
Well, I'm currently studying liberal arts, and I plan on focusing that on game design once I get my Associate's Degree. I actually have a great idea for a game that I am absolutely not going to let go this time around, so I'll need to learn at least enough programming to get my main mechanic working and also some general arty stuff so I'll actually have some visuals to work with.

As for where I work, I kinda don't right now. I definitely need a job, though, so I plan on searching seriously as soon as this semester ends. I know about this program that a friend of mine can probably help me get into, though, so I'm going to be checking that out pretty soon.
Well, there's more where that came from.
