I thin they mean to say that you can purchase music online=downloading it for a fee.But downloading music/movies/games is still illegal unless you own the actual product.

Yeah. It's only illegal if it's being redistributed without permission.

However, services like limewire are considered illegal because it's millions of random people taking the songs. Limewire, Ares, kazaa, etc., are all examples of sharing that are illegal. And because of this, Artists lose Billions of dollars. Though, giving your best friend the CD over MSN or handing them a burned copy is different, because it's just one time. Now, burning millions and shipping them all over the country is different, though. :/

However, this also applies to programs like Photoshop. Millions of people pirate for PS by hacking a key and installing it. Unfortunately, this is the internet. Anything is possible as long as teens continue to mass produce ways of stealing things.

    iTunes is legal know?

As long as you have rights it's fine. So downloading is fine, like you said. It's just redistributing is illegal, with programs like Bittorrents, it's easy to spread films and movies illegally and easily.

It's like how Spiderman 3 appeared on TV Links in a matter of a day.

It's illegal.....AND I LOVE IT. Unitl they have a way to police the internet, which will turn it into a fascist place if dull boredom-- which is next to near impossible now-- I shall thrive in it's beauty!

Mugen is pretty much illegal too. You download sprites that were ripped from other 2-D games for free.

I've always wondered whether or not that game was considered a part of the pirating tradtion. Sure Capcom, Marvel, etc. have rights and reserved ownership over the sprites, but it's never been a big enough thing like ripping and uploading music.

And in the spirit of Pirating and the awesomeness of Limewire:

actually, i read a supreme court ruling saying that "ipods themselves have been made in a way so that it is legal but the actual downloading of music is illegal."

Well it's because iPods are meant to interface with iTunes, a legal site in which money is exchanged for the ability to download millions of songs. However as of now, since iPods are just a generic mp3 player, any music-- downloaded legally or illegally-- can be put onto it. Since Apple only takes credit for the device, as do other companies that make mp3 players, no manufacturer can be sued.

i noticed no one's been sued for quite some time about music when a few years ago companies sued all these ppl for downloading music. i personally think the music companies are putting up with it becuz so many ppl do it now. and they can't very well sue everyone in the world now can they

For some reason iTunes was thought to be illegal. <_<

Because it's files weren't capable of playing on certain MP3 players. Why that makes it illegal is beyond me. >_>
