i think somebody downloaded a virus on my computer...

it keeps randomly shutting off. it flashes some error message with a blue background, but its gone before i can read the problem. anybody know if this is indeed from a virus and/or if i can fix it so i can use my computer again?


EDIT: i tried to scan in safe mode and it wouldnt let me. i do have some pics of wat it was telling me though. and also when im not in safe mode, i keep getting the fatal error message soon after i log on...

 

Try booting up in safe mode. You can do this by rapidly tapping the F8 key when your computer is starting up.

See if you can run your anti-virus scan in safe mode, and if you can, let me know the results of the scan.

 

actually vista lets you choose safe mode when it kicks off on its own. im running the quick virus scan first without safe mode to see if i find anything. i was gonna try with safe mode if i didn't find anything. but it takes longer, so i was saving it for last...
i'll post what i find. i'll edit it into my first post.

i tried to scan it unsuccessfully.
it wont tell me there is a virus. only that my computer is messed up.
i wouldnt be quite as worried if my computer wasnt only 5 weeks old...

 

Go to hackforums.net. Go to the white hat hacking section, go go the Hijackthis log subforum. They'll tell you what to do.

 

thanks but it was making me mad so i backed up my pictures and reformatted it and reinstalled windows. it was only bout a month old so i didnt really lose anything but winamp, grand chase, and winrar...

You could have saved yourself from this trouble, but don't hey that works too. Maybe it works even better than removing the viruses.

 

yeah. all i lost is one game. which isnt too bad.
and it works way better and only took a few clicks and 20 minutes to install.
