It actually went the stereotypical way that Atheist vs. Theist argument goes.
The gist of our argument was:
Me: Four paragraphs explaining how historically, scientifically, logically, and philosophically, I don't see the existence of God nor the need for one. How, after much research and deliberation, I came to understand (instead of believe) that God isn't real.
Him: Bible verse or a poem telling me that God is real.
Me: You can't use the Bible as evidence for God. Why is your God the real one and not Zeus, Odin, Shiva, Xenu? Why is your religion the right one out of the countless others, specifically the other Abrahamic religions?
Him: Something about prophecies about Jesus.
    Then he deleted the thread.

Why do we even have theists and atheists in the first place? As long as we can't prove whether or not such things as gods can exist, there's no point in believing or disbelieving in them. Until then, god is just the number zero. That is, a symbol that denies the absence of meaning...yada yada yada Ghost in the Shell reference Tachikoma speech blah blah blah

It means I don't believe God exists, well there is more to it but that is the basics.

And the dictionary strikes again :p

When I argue about religion it's not because I want to prove a point or validate anything . . . I just like to argue.

Ah, but how will we ever see other people's view if we never hear them? If we simply clowe ourselves to our own ideas, how can we ever understand each other if we close ourselves away?
People in all respects get too easily emotional in discussions, especially about arguing their faith, but I don't feel offended if someone questions my faith or lack thereof because i've questioned my self enough to know the faults in my beliefs. So insult my beliefs, still won't get that offended.

I either feign ignorance or just keep asking questions. Either way I've wasted enough time that I usually need to leave and they tell me to believe in God or not, either way I walk.

I've been going over my beliefs for years and not once have I thought I have wrong beliefs but can you say the same?
I doubt it everyone is different, everyone has a different mind, a different reason to live and a different thing to believe in. You can be someone who believes God wants a world run by the men or someone who denies there is a god. Your beliefs are part of who you are but they can change as you do. No matter how old you are the fact is you are constantly changing and can never know who you really are or how you will think or feel the next day until it happens. To quote Final fantasy nine "The only dependable thing about the future is uncertainty" When it come to life there is no right or wrong it is all based on what that one person believes. You could murder someone and as long as you believe it is right that is how it will remain to you even though everyone else says it is wrong. You could fall into darkness and think you are surrounded by the light if that is how you see it. We can't prove anything is right or wrong we can only use our own perception to try and convince others to see it the same way.

There is no such thing as being too atheist.

  14. I personally have no religion. Now before the hate or objection comments by people calling me atheist, I am not atheist either. In a way, its my own religion that I follow I guess. I think there might be a god, but I don't know that for sure. I think you are reincarniated and your next life depends on how you handle this one. But I don't think a book should deturman your religigious practice or any of that goblidy gook. I always thought as a child that if it ( the bible or other religiou works) were just written by some bored dude in a room. I still kinda think that, no offence to religious book lovers. Also I think stereotyping is the worst thing in the world because its the stereotype is started by someone who doesn't know what they are doing to others dose an iddiotic thing.[DOUBLEPOST=1354851663][/DOUBLEPOST]

Well I think all people should discuss debate, and even point out what religions are better (as the one you chose is the best for you I am sure, or you wouldn't chose it).
Like every other thing in life this should be open to debate, the problem is that when a discussion about religion (you having one or not) starts both sides are already conviced that they are right, and anything the other side says no matter how logical it was, will be ignored so when we enter such a frivolous debate It's better to end it, if no one is open minded enough to reconsider, there's no meaning in debating.

I do try to respect other people opinions, even the ones that I don't agree, and specialy the ones that I can''t change.. than again It's a bit hypocrisy to say our children that their imaginary friends is fake, but the adult's imaginary friend isn't.

Debating which one is better or whether it' s good or bad can be interesting on an intellectual level, but even if you could prove it' s actually good a skeptic still wouldn' t believe it. All he cares about is whether it' s true or not. In the movie, the matrix looks like a much more enjoyable place to live in than the real world, it' s still an illusion though. As emotionally comfortable as they might be false beliefs have consequences, they impact our behavior. The more false beliefs you hold, the less pertinent your decisions are, it' s the reason we have asylums.

I discovered the Atheist Experience on you-tube last year, I watched dozens of episodes since. The concept of that show is, basically, call and tell us what you believe in and why, we' ll point the fallacy. I haven' t seen them fail to point one yet.

The show helped me to realize that, although I never really believed in God, being sent to catechism for years had planted a lot of nonsense in my head. I can' t imagine what I' d believe in now if religion had been spoon-fed to me when I was even younger than that.
