I saw a stray greyhound and touched her puppy!

It's true! There's this stray greyhound/whippit (not sure) that lives in a pipe at the bottom of my road, and she gave birth a couple of weeks ago I think and she only has one pup left (the rest died:( ) and on the way home from shopping with mum I got to go out and touch the pup and greyhound! I got a good hand lick from the pup, hes really friendly. We now feed it every day, it's still kinda thin though. I hope it gets fatter soon... Mums called the animal shelter but they wont pick her up if she or the pup isnt injured.

 

i know a way to make it injured......j/k! anyway, you're lucky, dogs can't stand me. they ALWAYS bark at me and try to get me whenever i pass by them. and i hate them back!

 

Its probably cuz ur wearing a color they dont like some dogs r like that

 

You should also be careful about stray babies, the mom can reject the baby if she can smell human scents on them.

But that's cool. :D

 

Wow, that's a shame. I don't see why the animal shelter won't pick them up, they will most likey die now that winter in on the way. That's nice though that you are feeding them. ^^

that is sad about the animal shelter. have you tried bringing them into your house???

 

I can't, we have 2 rabbits and another dog that isn't very keen on sharing territory....

Don't worry, it's not THAT young. I think its about 2 or 3 weeks old. He/she still can't get up though.

 

You know, if you can get the animals' trusts and they will follow you, you might be able to take them to the shelter and drop them off. They can't not take animals dropped off. You can just drop them there and leave since they refused. Just leash them there nearby or something. They 'say' they can't take them but well, they'd be up on some animal cruelty charges themselves if they refused to take in an animal that is brought there. If nothing else, perhaps you could put an add in the paper about the dog and puppy so that someone will come and take them to a loving home and just for the added insult, say the animal shelter won't take the animals because they are healthy, but the baby is thin and you are worried that if they have no good home they may die. There are kind hearts out there that would come and take them. They seem to be of good demeanor.

Also, as long as the mother was there with the baby when you touched her, and the mom let it happen, the baby will be fine. If you touched it when she wasn't around, that could be bad. A mom won't let a puppy be touched if it doesn't want it touched.

Be careful when you touch stray dog's puppies. The mother can get defensive, and if you get bitten, you can get rabies!
Luckily for me there's no rabies in Australia and hardly any stray dogs!

I did keep that in mind but she didn't seem to mind. I've called the mother Silba btw. She's beautiful wouldn't hurt a fly.
