As I said, they are myths with strong figurative language. The Old Testament is made up of five things:
    1. Myths (Genesis has this in spades. Also Jonah.)
    2. History with some loose mythical background (Exodus, the books about the Judges and Prophets, etc)
    3. Folk songs and sayings (Psalms, Proverbs, Song of Songs, etc)
    4. Law (Exodus and and the remainder of the Pentateuch)
and 5. Actual History (Chronicles, Kings, etc.)

Unfortunately, I find the Creation Myth in Genesis to be something of a bore. I mean, it's just God saying, "Universe do this and this and this" then resting for a day. I much prefer the Greek, Roman, and Norse Creation Myths. They're just more exciting. More fun to read, y'know?

The story of the Garden of Eden was originally from the Epic of Gilgamesh.
    i.e. a Mesopotamian legend.

Oh, I see. So you're saying that the Israelites developed their "existence of evil" myth based on the Mesopotamian legend? That makes sense. I mean, isn't it theorized that Eden was the Fertile Crescent? It would only make sense that the Israelites would look to the residents of such a fertile area to develop their ideasof why they, being the Chosen People, no longer inhabited one of the most fertile areas of that time. Unless I'm mixed up and the Fertile Crescent wasn't most of Mesopotamia.
