True enough to both. Since I graduated school, I've barely read anything. I picked up again about a month ago, but I'm still not reading as much as I was when I was in school. as for the 3DS thing, I seem to have a habit where I start a game during break at work, then put it in sleep mode and forget about it. Then, next time I try to play it, the battery is drained and my progress during that one break is lost. Not a big deal since it was only 15 minutes of play, but the battery is still dead.

I don't think I'll be able to wait to read them, as I've already got some spoilers under my belt that have piqued my interest.

All I'm saying is that if you have a choice between a free steak and a $20 hot dog (plus $15 more in condiments) made to taste like that steak, you'd be an idiot to throw the steak in the garbage and eat the hot dog instead. At the very least, you could save the steak for later.

I think the hot dog is a good analogy, in that it's cheaper and presented in a way that is harsher and simpler than most food. Quick and easy, fairly tasty, potentially unhealthy. Now I'd say this works better if you were talking about MAKING the steak though. Then the analogy expresses the pros and cons pretty well. The steak takes significantly longer to prepare and finish, and probably tastes a bit more bland, but in return you get a more full experience/stomach
And some people don't like tough meat, and then you have those vegetarians who don't watch TV OR read books

The whole analogy is on the basis that both the hot dog and the steak are premade for you. The only difference is that one is free (like books at a library) and takes more effort to eat but tastes much better than the other, which costs quite a bit (you know, like going to a movie), takes a *lot* less effort to eat, and tastes far inferior to the steak it claims to be flavored after. One of those choices is obviously more fulfilling than the other.

It's NOT objectively better though, a lot of people would like a hotdog over some steak. Like I have very weak teeth after having my braces, so eating steak is more trouble than it's worth for me. Meanwhile a hotdog isn't particularly healthy, but they taste yummy. I love mustard. Delicious.

I think reading the book is good but some people just don't have the time to read it but still want to know what has happened so watch the film, some people just prefer to digest the story in that way so it is all completely subjective. Normally the book is better but that doesn't always discredit watching the film.

There's a lot of stuff I want to comment on, but I'm not going to because it's like kicking a dead horse and all that jazz. What I do want to say is that the Percy Jackson movies are god awful. I wanted to claw my eyes out. I thought the first one was okay, but the second was downright atrocious. I didn't think it could get worse, and yet it did.

As for the books, I love Percy Jackson. I read The Last Olympian books junior year of high school and have been reading the Heroes of Olympus since they first started coming out. The first series is more younger oriented, but that's because it was directed at our age group and we were all in middle school at the time. Now, the second series is a lot darker with some controversial topics in it, and that's because Riordan is bridging the age gap because we've all grown up. The cast of the Percy Jackson books ages 5 - 6 years throughout the series. So, granted, they are still in high school; but we no longer are. Their trials have become more dangerous. Their lives are further at risk. And, their self struggles become more real and personal.

The final volume comes out this fall and I can't wait for it. There has been so much to happen to our little babies that I want them all to have a happy ending and grow up successfully.

Fearless, if you're reading the Percy Jackson books, I also recommend the Kane Chronicles. It's a series by Rick Riordan about Egyptian mythology and he references the Percy Jackson books more than once. There's also a hint at in the final volume that leads you to believe that there will quite possibly be a crossover between the two in the last book for Heroes of Olympus. I hope that there is. It will make things interesting. I love talking to people about the PJ books and would like to hear what you have to say as you progress through the stories.

Oh God, what did I do this time...?

It's pretty much this. One of the things I like best about the Percy Jackson series is that it ages with you. Even in the first series itself, the fifth book was a bit more mature than the first one. And while the characters are still in high school (Percy is seventeen in House of Hades I believe) the experiences they've gone through make them much more mature than the average high schooler. They still act impulsively quite often, but it's much less than in the earlier books.

Once the books come in, I'll probably set up a thread to liveblog as I read. They should be in by the end of the week, but I'm already on Titan's Curse so it'll just be the last three.
(I ended up borrowing Sea of Monsters from a friend to finish it)
I was nudging you because you probably know which spoilers I'm talking about.

Oh good. I didn't do the spoiling. I try not to but sometimes I can't help it. But yeah, especially with the latest book, the internet has been going a bit nuts.
