A while should be two words here. It should only be one word when it has "for" in it.

For example, "I'll be gone for a while" could also be said as, "I'll be gone awhile."

But no, people don't do it because they care about grammar, they do it to 'one-up' the person they are correcting. In a sense it helps make them feel superior to point out flaws in someone else's typing, or at the very least helps make them feel more intelligent than they actually are.


I think "these arguments" have more or less become exclusive to Amaury and that guy who works at the Krusty Krab now. They need to stop being butthurt elitist snobs and get over themselves because these are getting really old. no offense

 

Speak for yourself. I actually do care about other people's grammar because it affects how I view what they're trying to say. If you don't care enough about your post to take 30 seconds to reread it and fix things that are wrong with it, you probably don't care very much about what you're trying to say.
