I had an episode of Doctor Who recorded on my TV from a year ago

I put probably a little too much thought into Doctor Who, hah.

I do still consider the Doctor a pacifist, however, pacifism isn't easy, especially for him. He has to make decisions between killing one person or group to save another (The Beast Below, Eccleston's final episode's "coward or killer" scene, etc.). After all, he made the choice to kill the Time Lords and the Daleks in hopes to end the violence. Whether or not that was the right choice is certainly up for debate, but I would say New Who's Doctors are still deeply committed to pacifism--but they have the scars of battle, and the weight of a soldier. They have killed two entire races before. He clings to pacifism now so that he can live with himself, in hopes of some kind of penance for his actions. But it's not easy to just wipe your hands and say "well I'm done with that, I'm beyond violence," especially when you've got Daleks poking up all over the place. Also, people all around him are dying (or are otherwise harmed)--seeing this, he has to question whether he's being too moderate, whether he needs to be more aggressive to stop the aggressors he's faced with. It's an extremely ethical conflict, and one that's explored a lot with Matt Smith. I'd especially give A Town Called Mercy a try if it's something you're interested in. It might give you some respect for Amy.

And that's totally okay! That's part of the magic of Doctor Who, I think. You can fall in love with one Doctor and have that going, while I may simply not like him and not watch him. When that Doctor says his goodbyes and we get a new one in his place, the roles could flip flop; you hate him and refuse to watch him, I love him and eat it all up. So even if you don't like the show at a certain point, you can still revisit it in a year or two and see if it's better suited to you.

If it's Moffat's writing you have a problem with, too, he's leaving as the series's main writer.

But that's the thing. The Doctor hates Daleks. To him, they deserve nothing less than a cold stare of hatred and a baseball bat to the eyestalk. The only time he has ever shown any kind of mercy a true flesh and steel (okay, Dalekanium, but you should get the point) Dalek is when he has had a companion to keep his pure hatred of all Dalek-kind in check. If he had lost his bracelet, I'm sure the Doctor would have been converted in minutes.

Thank you for pointing out what should have been an obvious reference.

Tried to watch it once and I actually enjoyed it. Then I learned that the main theme is time travel. No thank you. It's one of those things that's really hard to be good, and when you have a TV series, you're just asking for ridiculous plots to fill up those episodes.

So you enjoyed an episode but then judged on what you know of the series...? idk that seems a bit backwards to me. It's like if I picked up a game and liked it, but then put it down because I know it's an action game. It's your life & all but you might want to give it a chance.

Not even going to deny this. There can be some weird plots but it works exactly because it's Doctor Who. Even then those weird plots aren't the majority. A lot of episodes develop the characters or set up elements for future episodes among other things. Like I just finished watching Series 3 and a lot of the stuff that happens in the finale is set up in past episodes and it's done pretty well.

I didn't form my opinion of the series as a whole, but I learned enough for me to lost interest in it. To go with your analogy, I played Battlefield III and I had fun at first. Then I played all the maps and learned how terrible the level design was. A fun shooter without a good core design is the same thing as a TV show with a basis I have zero interest in. It also has to do with the fact thag I rarely watch TV, so my standards are high.

It's been around since the sixties and is the longest running sci-fi show on television though, It's not a bad show at all[DOUBLEPOST=1347942340][/DOUBLEPOST]

You're right, it's just hard sometimes to see him killing species', because when I watched Doctor Who, there were still Timelords, granted they were dicks, but they were still there, even while the Doctor did his thing. I was a child watching the Doctor fight with only his screwdriver to 'unlock' the puzzles of how to bring peace. None of this Second Great Time War stuff had happened until after the 7th or 8th Doctor I think, I know it was Colin Baker, and I can't remember which number he was, so it's just kind of foreign to me I guess, watching this series. Even though it's been rebooted for almost 10 years, it's still like a brand new thing for me. It's just weird to see the Doctor needing to kill or injure or bring genocide.

I guess I'll keep watching the new ones, it's just... Weird.

And I really don't like Moffat's writing that much, it's tolerable at best.

Oh my bad, It was Mcgann. I never really learned his name because he only showed up for the one movie, but it was his TV film that either set the events of the Time War in motion, or just, I dunno, was the last thing to happen before it.

Either way, it was very confusing to start watching it again and learn that all of the Timelords had been killed.

It wasn't rebooted. The 2005 series is a continuation of the old series. The word you're looking for is "retooled."

Not much of a connection between the two actually. The only thing they have in common is The Doctor.

Well they did show up in the two parter The End of Time, the Time War was time locked so I guess we can assume they aren't really dead just ya know... not showing up due to plot related reasons.
Still you know what would be cool to see in the new series? The Valeyard.

Also, you need to stop throwing out words like "rebooted". You obviously do not know the meanings.

    I suppose.

it's hard to remember, since I haven't actually been super into watching the show in years.
Could go either way, since they created an entirely new storyline not related to the previous seasons/episodes.

Y'know, since it's consistent with the ideas of the original and all, while being fresh and new. It's clearly not fully constrained by what happened previously in the show, that is an obvious fact, since there are many things happening in the show that don't correspond to the old series.

However, it's really based off of personal opinion. It is also a continuation, but only in character, hardly in plot.

    Rebooted

Can I ask, where did you hear this? I have heard absolutely nothing from anywhere :3 Infact I heard more stuff about how he loves it and will probably be there for a while.

Also, Town called Mercy is probably a good episode to watch if you don't like Amy- she's barely in it. I think Doctor Who has just become a lot darker in recent years as it's started to explore deeper emotions and the serious side of Who instead of just fighting Aliens and saving the world- you can only tell this story so many times before it becomes repeatitive.

They remade the old series as a continuation but renewed it so new watchers don't have to trall through 20+ series of old who to understand what is happening.

... turns out it was the same place I read the Matt Smith leaving rumors. FROM NOW ON TRUST NOTHING THAT COMES FROM MY MOUTH REGARDING DOCTOR WHO.

B-b-but, that theory you posted.... It makes perfect sense! It better be true, but I bet if it is than Moffat will do something super clever on top of that.
