soooo tidus is a real man?

Tidus is probably one of my favorites of the Final Fantasy (male) protagonists because of the awesome character development. He's annoying & selfish but a character needs to have faults in order to feel real.

    Tidus was never Sin.

I still find his faults incredibly distracting. Mind you, the whole lot of them are thick, but Tidus just complains a lot. He also whines too much, and is a little **** about Yuna's destiny. Then, he retells the first 30 hours to the people WHO WERE THERE WITH HIM. What the heck? And don't get me started on how Yuna was more of a main character then Tidus >.>

Yeah but it's similar, he sacrifices his existence in Spira in exchange for stopping Sin.
Have you ever heard about the Mary Sue/Gary Stu problem? The reason these characters are so uninteresting is that they don't have faults. This is a nice reference for writing (and understanding how to write) characters. Tidus is...
    Positive
    - Confident
    - Optimistic

    Negative
    - Conceited
    - Arrogant
    - Moody

So the faults can be distracting. But doesn't it make him feel more human?
    ... He loves her.
The narrator needn't be the main character.

    Confident under positive.
    Arrogance under negative.

Those two things basically all mean the same thing and both are caused by conceit.

Also, optimism is just as bad as pessimism if not worse.

Well, I can list other traits for him, hah. I was just pulling from the list, wasn't really trying to do an in-depth character study. Just reinforcing that characters need faults.

( Though personally I think optimism is a positive character trait. But I am an optimist so...)

I'm just pointing out that if you make an argument, you shouldn't make a flawed one. If you do someone will point it out and since the people who usually would aren't present it consequently fell to me.

Also, optimism is by its nature an unrealistic view of the world. I think that has to fall under negative.

    Oh certainly.

See, being an optimist means I don't believe it's unrealistic lol.

You're probably actually just hopeful not optimistic. Where a hopeful person wishes for the best outcome, an optimist expects the best outcome. To always expect things to end up favorably for you is just plain silly and that's what optimism is. I prefer to prepare for the worst and hope for the best without tainting events with definite expectations.

Sure it does. It doesn't mean I have to like him. Does it?

    I love her too.

But he's technically thought of as the main character.

Thank you. I didn't have to bother.

Both optimism and pessimism imply an expectation, for good or bad. It is more practical to be flexible and adjust your plans to match observed circumstances in each instant.

Your obsession with Link (someone entirely without a personality) is telling, don't you think?

You seem to prefer people who were written out of fanfiction without depth to their character. You like them for how "cool" they are. That is the message I am getting.

Natural temperament doesn't often yield to manual change or control, nor should it. Personally? I'm pretty pleased with how I look at things. I don't care if it's "impractical."

That is a really difficult question to answer? I just mean, the way a person sees the world and... thinks, basically.
