Schoolkid chipping trial 'a success' - The Register 22/10/07
A school in Doncaster is piloting a monitoring system designed to keep tabs on pupils by tracking radio chips in their uniforms. According to the Doncaster Free Press, Hungerhill School is testing RFID tracking and data collection on 10 pupils within the school. It's been developed by local company Darnbro Ltd, which says it is ready to launch the product into the £300m school uniform market.

If it's just keeping track of their location in school, and if it's *only* used/active when they're on school grounds, then I really don't see how this is a blatant violation of human rights.

Sure, it's obviously not widely practiced, but it's doesn't seem like these tracking devices (if the circumstances I specified above apply) do any more than track location of the student. It said RFID tracking, and that's essentially all RFID does. It would be a different story if these devices have video and audio feeds, because then that'd just be weird if someone was going to the bathroom, or people listening to all your conversations. But this doesn't seem to be the case.

In my opinion, it's a waste of money, but oh well.
