I didn't see anything in the General Game Chat Rules thread prohibiting this. Anyway, how would you guys improve gameplay in games from today's world?
Do you mean how games are controlled? The only thing I would like to see is a 100% virtual reality. Every game is different, so you cannot really ask what you'd want to improve. Dead Island has amazing gameplay, while other games, for example CoD, Black Ops doesn't. Which is my opinion. (It's all opinion)
Well i suppose the only thing i can come up with is: 1. Good storyline that is believable in relation to the main character(s). 2. Memorable characters and sufficient voice acting. 3. Originality with a twist of suspension. I think these are crucial for a game and that is something that could be improved upon in some games.
With speaking about FPSs, this will be near impossible, but I would want to add more meaning to games like CoD apart from just shooting people all the time. I would like to give it purpose, like a war film - courage and cowardice, and the struggle to protect anything you hold dear. So with gameplay, I would add the Trust System and a bit less blood, and not go into the jaws of controversy.
I'm not gonna add a lot since without variety everything'd be pretty much the same. But a faster (As in reeeally fast) pace on any game would be very much appreciated.
I fail to see the point, the story is how the game plays, it is essential to it. If you are refering to buttons and the function of a game, then i'd say they are fine. You really can't do much with that unless they built a controller with 20+ buttons and controller sticks on it... I'd say make things faster and more buttons and combos to improve gameplay. But keeping things original and interesting wouldn't hurt.
That would actually make it worse lol too many buttons would make it too difficult to play, too uncomfortable to grip the controller, and it'd probably look strange too. I would provide my opinion on games but to be perfectly honest i cant be bothered as i'm too tired. I may edit this later, i may not. I don't know. Either way i provided my opinion on the quote :P
Gameplay is a term used to describe the interactive aspects of game design. An alternative name for gameplay that is finding favor with academics is game mechanics, however, it can be argued that gameplay and game mechanics are different concepts. Gameplay is what distinguishes a game from a non-interactive medium such as a book or film through the interaction with the game by the player. Good and original storylines, characters and voice acting have nothing to do with the gameplay. Saying you like stuff such as branched scenarios, choices changing the way the story unravels, choice between English or Japanese voices etc ... would be more fitting. I like games which allow the player to tailor the gameplay to its tastes (difficulty and button settings are a minimum requirement, no forced auto-saves or checkpoints, highly customizable characters etc ...), and I also like when you can unlock stuff by beating extra-hard optional challenges (I said stuff, as in in-game items, not useless trophies). Modern games in general seem less and less customizable, hard or rewarding to me. I think I should also comment Nintendo' s obsession to constantly reinvent the wheel, when I see them forcing players to use a touch screen or a Wii-mote, whereas the gameplay could have easily been implemented with a classic controller, it frustrates me to no end. Why don' t they let the player decide what suits him best ? I hate the Wii-mote and find it highly user-unfriendly, which doesn' t help. I also have no interest whatsoever for the Move or Kinnect. You probably figured it out by now, I' m one of those "it was better in my time" geezers.
