Hey guys, Just had a quick question. I'm wanting to transfer my itunes library from one computer to another. The problem is that I have a lot of playlists AND folders. I know how to export a playlist to save it, but I was wondering if anybody knows of a way to save the folders that I've created as well. All I can find is how to save the playlists, not the folders. Does exporting the library save the folders or just the info about all my songs. BTW, I'm using a windows operating system. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
It should be in a folder called iTunes Music. That folder should be located in My Music. It should have folders for each artist, then a folder for each album, and your music will be in the folder. note that if your music is DRM'd you'll have to authorize your other computer.
I think he means how to move the playlists and playlist folders, not the actual music. Anyway, I'm not sure if this will work for you, but have you tried iTunes's built-in Home Sharing function? If you're logged into the iTunes Store on both computers, you can turn on Home Sharing and copy music and I believe playlists from one computer to the other. I've never tried it with folders, though.
Oh. In My Music there should be a folder called "iTunes" copy that folder into your new "iTunes" folder in your new computer and overwrite everything. It should save all your preferences. (Back up your iTunes folder before you do this as I'm not quite sure it'll work)
The copying of the iTunes music folder seems to be the best bet at the moment, as I've found evidence that some personal information is stored there. It doesn't say anything about folders or playlists, but I imagine they're fairly close to the ratings and playcounts, so they might be copied too.
