Actually, if you want to lose the accent, the best thing to do is to do the following.

    1. try watching television programs and mimicking the words you hear and getting them as close to the person's as you can. Of course, make sure it's someone with a neutral accent.

    2. try singing some songs from artists with neutral accents.

Hearing the words through speech and mimicking and also hearing it through song can help you get the accent down faster. You need to hear and then repeat. This is why a song can be helpful to you because you can keep playing it over and over. You also may want to see if you can get some recording of a person with a neutral accent and then imitate that as the person is speaking.

Maybe get some movie where you can memorize or look up the script to and say the words along with the people there as well. Listening and speaking are the keys to success to drop the accent. Don't give up and good luck!

No problem. Another thing that can help is when you sing or talk, listening to someone else, cover one of your ears and that way you can hear yourself more clearly as the other noise is going on and can try to mimic the voices closer to how they sound. Don't be worried also about just repeating some words until it sounds as close as you can muster to the speaker.

the best way i've found of either learning or losing an accent is immersion. Like the other's have stated, practice, vocalize, sing, whatever, just try and i suppose give in.

Speak your original accent! Be yourself! Don't be ashamed to be different! If everyone was the same, the world would be even more boring then it is now.

Thats exactly what I was about to say!

I know there will be problems with understanding and stuff, but you should be proud of the accent you have. Why should you want an American accent? Just because you live in the country. Wouldn't you rather be unique.

When I go to other countries other people take the piss out of me because I have a very strong Welsh accent. But that doesn't deter me. I like to stand out!

Be proud of what you have!

besides i myself dislike the way it sounds u know
its just somethin that im not confortable with
