How IGN (and friends) would remake FFVII

There are a couple of good ideas in here (the ones that would be expected out of a remake), but wow are some of these terrible. I'm particularly looking at "Streamline plot threads (i.e. ditch Jenova"

IGN is almost patently bad at choosing staff. It is like their gimmick or something.

 

There are a couple of good ideas, and I agree that some things should not change at all (we need our cross-dressing Cloud and Date scene), but really? Change Aerith's death?

I'm all for Shellree though.

 

Actually, Cloud would have spelled it wrong due to bad translation.

1Up's staff seem to be the only ones who have any sort of clue. And by 1up staff, I really only mean Jeremy Parish.
I'd like to see them remake songs like this one "fully orchestrated" without having it sound like ass:

Final Fantasy 7 should just stop.

 

But it's one of the best games in the series.

 

No, it isn't. Cloud isn't as unlikable as Squall, but he's close. Most of the other characters are plot devices with no personality, which made them boring and didn't make me care about them. The enemies have some of the worst design in the series, and Sephiroth is just okay. Materia was fun but underused, and it tried to make a mythology and failed. The other VII related games helped it, but a game should have a good backstory by itself.

I don't like that game at all.

 

I'm not really sure how you could find Cloud almost as unlikable as Squall, who had a lot of dialouge that was just either "..." or "Whatever", at the very least Cloud was just sarcastic most of the time. He played around with people, complimented the looks of women, among various other things. While I can always understand why people wouldn't like Cloud, that's fair enough, but you're crazy for calling him close to as bad as Squall. Most of the other things you said are just opinion based, which I can't really argue. Well, other than the part about other VII related games helping, that's just wrong. If anything, those games ruined the original.

 

To each their own. I find it enjoyable and I am playing it for the first time (I started last year).

The most impacting point has been the music and the art style. Most of the charm lies in those.

Of the FF games I have played, this one has the best characters. Most of the games before it were flat for character development. For instance, no one was sad over deaths in the previous games (that I know of, I know I wasn't), and none of the villains have any personality other than Kefka.

Though if we really wanted to get into how each of the characters was a plot device, we could look at the similarities the characters in this game have to Berserk.

Let's stop talking about bad characters. Why not discuss that chicken-wuss Zell instead?

 

I cared less about the deaths in 7 than any previous ones. Good writing does not make a good character. And Cloud is sad, weep, and then sarcastic. The other characters were well written but poorly defined. Clod just had bad writing. I hated him, and constantly wished he would actually have a real personality. His reactions to death just gave him emotions. It's different.

I don't know. Sephiroth was a great villain, but a mediocre character. I'm not saying it was a bad game, although I think I might have. It's got great gameplay, and a good overall story. But the details were terrible.

 

you forgot the part where they throw in jessica chobot as cameo character for eye candy.
