What happens if you ignore fatigue?

    Does something happen?

You can't force yourself to not sleep by sheer force of will, eventually you'd just collapse and sleep, before that you'd see significant decreases in motor skills, coordination, and general mood

I always try to get around 8 hours of sleep, but naturally I seem to get anywhere between 9 to 10 hours of sleep. And every time I tell people this they're always saying things like "you don't need that much sleep", "That's ridiculous", "You only need an average of 8 hours".

First off, I'd like to note that average does not equate to "every single person on the planet", which everyone seems to use the term as.
Secondly, I enjoy sleeping because it's cozy.
Thirdly, I know I need more sleep because I keep getting bags around my eyes. So when I see those bags, I sleep more and ignore my alarm.

I used to be an insomniac, I say used to because I am nowhere near as bad as I used to. If you stay up too long your immune system can go to shit, you can then get things like Mono.

The most I've stayed up for was about three days, it was easily one of the most horrid things I've ever done. This part is gross ----> (you sometimes lose your appetite when you stop sleeping).

    tl;dr

Just take care of yourself / don't be stupid.

Sheer will isn't the only factor but it helps

You hallucinate and such; stuff others said.

@Proper amount of sleep: The amount of time you are asleep is mostly irrelevant. What you need is REM. You can be fully rested in a polyphasic schedule of one 2-4 hours in every 24 hour period.

I swear I must be addicted to sleeping or something. I do it for like ten hours every day. It's starting to get to the point where the only reason I do anything when I'm awake is so I can be extra tired sleep when it gets late. It's cutting into my job searching.

It's not good to just... not sleep. I also had insomnia problems at one point... I'm still recovering from it but there was a point where I started researching the effects of not sleeping for a character I was roleplaying, because simply refused to sleep after a certain point.

Now, the problem is that in most cases, you cannot just simply decide "oh I'm just not going to sleep for 3 days" there usually has to be some kind of condition that builds up to that. But it is possible to just... ignore falling asleep. I've done it multiple times actually... you continue to feel tired unless you get a sudden burst of energy (which tends to happen less and less the longer you are awake)

But really, don't... it isn't good for your brain to not sleep and it takes a hell of a long time to recover from staying awake for too long. It does damage to your body after all.

"why sleep when i could be doing other stuff" is my logic at night.
