Now, having watched at least 16 hours of television a day for the last week(Olympics), I've seen this commercial at least a dozen times.

It's a commercial which shows a single spot over a long period of time in fast forward, there is a gas station that is built and goes through several technological stages of development before finally being torn down for good, leaving a nice looking mountain valley, a futuristic car appears and the word "Volt" or something of that sense.

Seconds later Honda claims a 2010 release on this car, a car that "Can go for up to 40 miles without using a drop of gas".

Now, my question is, how realistic does anything actually think this will be? And if this car does what it says it does, what affect do you think it'll have?

Well naturally those who buys this car will save a lot of gas money, presuming the car standards live up to what they said.

And with this new car coming out, other companies are probably gona follow the same trail to make even more fuel efficient cars. Eventually, we'll probably have a big variety of cars with a lot less fuel usage which can cause problems for the gas industry. =/

As if the Gas industry isn't one massive problem already.

I think the Honda new car is supposed to be called 'Clarity' while Chevrolet is making the Volt. That's what shows up any way on new car information sites. However, it is nice to see that they are doing something green and that has potential. Both vehicles probably won't be out till 2010 but it shows hope that car companies are finally starting to do more and are showing they aren't total bought off slaves to gas corps. The only problem I have with electric cars is so far none can compare in power, speed or durability with their gas guzzling competition. This is probably the only reason I wouldn't buy one until they get things right because where I live we have a lot of hills and up north we have a lot of mountains. It's just not practical and safe. Also, I don't want to refuel/energize a car every 2-4 hours. That's a let down there. I hope more car companies keep getting involved in this endeavor and we see better from them. It's kind of interesting to see if they can produce vehicles that will be powerful and yet atmosphere friendly.

    Its actually the Chevrolet Volt.

However, I don't think it's going to go as well as everybody hopes it will. But if it could really go about 40 miles without using up any gas then I'd be the first at at Chevy dealer for that car. Gas prices are a joke now.

Weird, I googled the volt to make sure which company was making it before I made the thread, and it said "Honda Volt" in like 4 places.

Edit: Lol wtf, now it all says Chevy. I'm confused.

It will be made the solely as one model under one trim level. Just as the Prius is always a hybrid, although there is a camry and corrolla version hybrid. This is hondas retort to the Prius even though they have a hybrid civic, this is supposed to be solely this. And the 40 miles is just programming when the engine actually needs to be kicked in which really is only under a sudden acceleration period, thats how the prius does it now, after a certain point of pressure the combustion engine kicks in, this just has more battery and rotary power.

Personally I think that Honda should be pushing their FCX because I would rather see a use to hydrogen rather than doing more hybrid things.
