No, she did write both songs specifically for Kingdom Hearts. Nomura even commented that some factors of the game were influenced by her song (The Japanese version at least). But I have to agree that the lyrics for Simple and Clean didn't really fit with KH but Sanctuary was much better lyric-wise.

If she is involved with KH3 (and I hope she does return :3) She'll write a new song that would be appropriate for the story of KH3 with Story explanations from Nomura, as done with KH and KH2 :) It'd be much better than simply licensing one of her older songs and it'd make such a great comeback from her hiatus too XD

I really hope this pulls through. Utada Hikaru is like a part of Kingdom Hearts now. Every game has either Hikari or Passion in it.

This is great! I think even though there were some problems Utada thought that it is impossible not to work for disney, as they currently owns the world.

I always thought that it was Squeenix who decided to cease working with her because she was asking for too much money or something. Though that could just be a rumour. >_>

I believe it was her husband who said that Disney doesn't pay enough. Or was it her father? I forget. Pretty sure about the Disney bit though.

Either way, if she actually is returning, I hope it's not because she caved in and settled for less. Gal's gotta earn a living, and she deserves a fortune.

I don't think it was her husband, iirc they divorced around when KH2 came out. Pretty sure her dad is her manager so of the two, I'd lean towards him.

Yeah, not the first time Disney's gotten that complaint. Which is why I hope they finally ponied up the dough when people saw that Hikaru didn't intend to return. Otherwise it'd just feel... tainted. D:

Hate to be the party pooper but didn't anyone read Mike's post? Utada will not be involved, at least for the time being with KHIII.

Anyway, speaking for myself i can't say i care, Simple and Clean and Sanctuary have been used for so long that it would actually feel strange to listen to anything else and i barely pay any attention when those songs start to play. They could always do what they did with DDD, but considering KHIII is a big deal they might use a new song. Chances are they are gonna use Sanctuary for a last time to coincide with the end of Xehanort's saga.

Aaw nuts! It would have totally brought the new in KHIII. Kh1 had Simple and clean, and KHII had Sanctuary. I think it should have only been right to have her make a new song for this last one in the saga.
