Do you ever find yourself standing by the side of the road waiting for the crosswalk light to change knowing that you shouldn't just go but for just a brief moment you think, "Hey, I wonder what would happen if I just stepped out in front of the next car," but then you don't and you continue on with your life never thinking about that moment again? And you're not suicidal or anything. You don't want to die, you're just curious, even though you know the answer to your wondering.

    It's such a weird feeling, isn't it?

Dunno. All I can think is about the Parallel universe I just opened where I go ahead and step infront of the car and end up dying. 『It's a beautiful thought』

How about where you actually do think about stepping out in front of the next car? And it happens every single time you have to stand at a crosswalk waiting for the light to change.

    Welcome to my world.

Yes. There are many reasons behind it. Kierkegaard first noted it down with his understanding of the idea behind his version of existential "angst" in the profound difficulties we possess when faced with moral choice, albeit with a different connotation. From a biological perspective, it is caused by the mis-interaction between the brain and the motor functions of the body. It is not a feeling of suicide nor is it some inner unconscious desire. Very natural actually.

You mean you think before walking into traffic? I just cross the road without looking. It's not because I have a death wish or anything, I'm just trying to break the habit of being the nice guy. Now that I think about it, that probably isn't one of the best ways to go about it.

Well if we get hit and live we can just sue. Then who'll wish we were the nice guy.

True, pedestrians do have the right of way. I doubt I'd sue though. I'd probably ask for help covering the hospital bills at the very least because I don't have insurance. I hate fraudulent lawsuits.

But it wouldn't be fraudulent because you actually did get hit and you weren't trying to get hit.

Not always. Pedestrians that are jaywalking or going against a red light don't have the right away; if they get hit, it'd be their fault, not the drivers'.

I'm not saying that drivers shouldn't slow down and just let them cross and get out of the way if they're already in front of the vehicle, but if a vehicle hits a pedestrian that's jaywalking or walking against a red light, it'd be on the pedestrian, not the driver.

This is a police officer posing as a random pedestrian crossing legally within a crosswalk. Even when the same officer was in his uniform, people failed to slow or stop. At 2 crosswalks, officers in Orange County, California wrote 64 tickets.

This problem isn't limited to California either. I have to make a bank deposit and the bank is within walking distance. I cannot tell you how many times I have been hit by people not paying attention. Too many people on cell phones* or just not giving a ****. Half of the time, I wait for them to go on their way before I cross.

*My county just issued a ban on driving with cell phones. There aren't signs yet but the police are cracking down on it by giving people warnings at this point.

That same thing happened here a while ago at a crosswalk where my mom works, but they gave up -- at least at that location -- because people that worked at the district court jaywalk, anyway.

I'll see if I can dig up the thread I made on it.[DOUBLEPOST=1394855925][/DOUBLEPOST]

I get these sorts of thoughts all the time, like walking over a bridge and thinking "I could throw my keys over the bridge" and I gain nothing from it, in fact I lose out but the more I think about it the more tempting it becomes xD I never do it though

This is actually a really common thought for me. Like, it's weird, but whenever I'm walking through traffic it just pops into my head.
