Is book 2 worth watching? Thought the original Avatar series was mostly great, but book 1 of Korra was kind of "meh to me. Is it more of the same or did it get any better?

Book two has crazy spikes up and down in quality. I'd say at the very least it's worth watching for the middle and the comedy

Yeah, Book 2 wasn't awesome, but it definitely had some great moments.

Book 2 is alright, but all of Korra's character development from Book 1 seems to have gone straight out the window and it ends with a giant deus ex machina. The final battle, while awesome, is little bit over the top for the story it's in. It's got tons of lore, though, including a two-part episode about the first Avatar.

    Sounds like it goes everywhere.
Guess it will give me something to do while watching it later. Time to play spot the good and bad moments.

It's worth a watch. The first half of the season sucks, but the second half is pretty good. And it adds a lot of lore to the Avatar series, like KS mentioned. There's also some very good comedy moments.

Not really much of a fan, more of a casual viewer looking for something to watch.

book 2 tell a lot about the history of the avatars and where does it start because the last airbender was about a kid that became the newly avatar and end up saving everyone he met up with, but no one never discover who was the first avatar except korra. so yea book 2 seems pretty boring and cool at the same time.

From what little i saw it was bad, but it was also worldbuilding which is fun in itself and can be enough reason to just put up with the poorly written characters. of course i only watched the first three episodes so i dont really know

Really only the main characters are poorly written, all the side characters were fun

I'm still not completely over the debacle that was the end of Book 1. Bryke could have done so much more with Amon and the Equalists. But lol the scars are make up, Amon completely lied and he's a water bender that is just using blood bending to take everyone's bending away'.

What about the point Amon made that Benders were dangerous? You saw it by the Avatar herself and her friends threatening non-benders all the time. And nothing came of it. Just swept under the rug and forgotten. Because romance subplots.

Then there was the deuce Aang machina where he shows up and gives Korra her bending back. I would have liked seeing her work with just Airbending and have to re-learn her other elements. Imagine how much character development there would have been for Korra. And all of that potential development was gone. Oh and she also gave everyone their bending back.

Some parts were good. The majority of it was just ****** writing.

    Oh and...
When the main villain stops turning out to be a member of the Water Tribe, I'll resume watching.

tl;dr: LoK is not as good as Avatar and I am very opinionated on cartoons.

I don't think LoK is bad, so much as it comes nowhere close to the original series. Avatar was, except for maybe the Toph-Sokka crush being dropped and Suki being kinda thrown in at the end, probably the most perfectly constructed Western animated series I've seen, imo. I can't speak to Adventure Time or anything else like it since I haven't seen it yet, but yeah.

    The writing staff from Avatar to Korra plummeted a lot; as in, from near 20 to 4 as of Book 2. This obviously had a major effect on the writing, as there's not too many people to refine ideas with and its much easier to get not so well constructed things into the story. When I first watched it, I was convinced Book 2 was a stronger product overall then Book 1 was, but watching it again it has the same overall problems, but different in a sense;

The most important is that a lot of characters got shafted and their development was weirdly done. Asami was relevant for like...five minutes, Bolin was kind of an ******* (understandable when you get the full backstory on him and Mako but they don't address this in relation to Bolin and don't show him falling into it). Mako continued the "I DUNNO WHO I LIKE LMAO," but we never see anything more to his character than that! We get all these hints Mako is deeper, that he loves his brother and cares for his friends/ragtag family, but we never get to be inside his head. We never get to see what Mako feels, only hear about it in the most awkward & pretty offensive way to Korra and Asami (who feels like a punching bag at this point, tbh).

Korra herself suffered a lot in the beginning because they gave no good reason to explain why she was so mad, and she just came off as acting like a complete ******* for a good 5-6 episodes. They tried to explain that it was because her dad/Tenzin , but the way it was presented made it seem like they were actually in the right and Korra was just being a pissy pants. WEIRDLY enough, they do show , but only after Korra stopped acting so infuriating.

Probably the best episodes in the season were the Beginnings ones (which honestly are on par with A:TLA which is baffling considering how Korra has gone so far), and 'A New Spiritual Age'.

I have some hopes for Book 3, but I know not to get my expectations up nearly as much as I have before. At this point, I just hope for Asami and Korra to actually have a friendship not based around Mako for god's sake.

I like LoK and do like watching it even if it's not nearly as great as Avatar. I really like Korra as a character, and like the worldbuilding they do post-Avatar, but the writing has taken such a dip in quality between series that LoK is only mediocre at best, and makes me so mad considering its roots and what it is perfectly capable of being.

This show would be so much better if they kicked out Korra and instead focused on Tenzin and his family/friends.

If you decide to not watch season 2 though, you should definitely watch the "Beginnings" episodes. They're pretty much self contained and absolutely awesome.

Beginnings 1 and 2 were definitely the highlight of the season. The season is sorta weak leading up to it, but after Beginnings, things definitely kick up a notch. The show as a whole still has yet to reach AtLA's standard, though.

If the following doesn't happen in Book 3, I might cry:

    • KORRA AND ASAMI BEING ULTIMATE BROS
    • ASAMI BEING IMPORTANT
    • ASAMI BEING HAPPY
    • KOH THE FACE-STEALER
    • VARRICK
    • AND ZHU LI
    • BOLIN HAVING SERIOUS DEVELOPMENT
    • BOLIN BEING MORE THAN COMIC RELIEF
    • KOH THE FACE-STEALER
    • MAKO NOT DITHERING OVER GIRLS
    • LIN BEIFONG
    • LIN'S DAD
    • AND ALSO TOPH
    • KOH THE FACE-STEALER
    • ZUKO
    • ZUKO'S DAUGHTER THE FIRE LORD
    • ANOTHER FORM OF AIRBENDING (EARTH GETS METAL, FIRE GETS LIGHTNING, WATER GETS BLOOD AND PLANTS)
    • DETECTIVE MAKO
    • K O H . T H E . F A C E - S T E A L E R

I think one of the better episodes is Korra meeting with Tenzin's family. We finally see her being the NICE one, and it shows a more gentle side of her, yet they manage to find this cool balance where she's softer, but still awesome about it. The way she interacts with the kids is just overall endearing

    OH OH OH
and the satire of 1920s film of pretty great
