My friend is stuck on the jungle place. I helped him light the stove, but what do we do after that?

Hm...ok, have you seen the heartless attack the gorillas yet? Cause if you have, after you save all the gorillas, go to the bamboo thicket place, and fight Sabor. After that, you have to rescue Jane and that little gorilla dude. You go to the place that's right after the vine thing. Keep hitting the fruit that is on the side of the tree, then go to that canyon place after bamboo thicket. Fight Clayton alone, then fight him with Stealth Sneak. After that, Kerchak launches you close to the waterfall. Keep going up, and you'll find the keyhole. HOpe this helps, I may be a little off since I haven't played for a while though. XD

...OK, before he made the potion, what did he do?

 

You can also make an ether at the camp I think... have you investigated the whole camp? If not then check everything out, you'll find something eventually.
