Walking doesn't really help you to lose weight, despite what some people say. It's good for you but it isn't going to drop you calories unless you are actually doing some good ol hiking up rough terrains etc and have to move it more where you are raising cardio rate. I would walk 5 miles a day after I had an injury and had to lay off of exercise and it did nothing but make me feel alright.

Sit ups are good and crunchies too. However, this will tend to build more muscle mass. Building muscle is a great way to lose fat because as you exercise you are telling your body you -need- that muscle so when it requires energy instead of going for the muscle, it goes for the fat reserves first. Do keep up on the muscle building related stuff.

However, I would suggest trying some more cardiovascular as well, such as jumping jacks, walking very fast or jogging on a treadmill, get some rollerblades and skate around, bicycle if you can. These get your energy up and your heart pumping and make you sweat too. It helps clear out the system and raises metabolism. Metabolism is really what you want to move and get up. Also, if you do some exercises throughout the day and not just one big workout it can help you too so that your metabolism is higher throughout the day. If you feel sluggish, try doing some situps, pushups, crunchies, jumping jacks, jump rope or something to get the heart moving. You'll feel better and it boosts your energy.

Another thing to do is try to take a vitamin a day if you can. Even a Flintstones vitamin would help if taken daily so that you get nutrients and such that isn't always in our foods we consume. This can help adjust your metabolism a bit as well.

Also, for food intake, you want to try to lower carbs some. Don't eliminate them but things like a lot of bread or cheap macaroni and sugary cereals and sodas, juices etc, you want to try to lower them some because a lot of it transfers direct to fat unless you are working out a lot, which then your body burns it fine. Another thing to try is when you feel hungry, eat SLOWLY. Try to relax, don't indulge and just gobble food up as many of us do when we are in a hurry. Take time to eat and drink some water or something to also help you feel fuller quicker. If you eat everything in 10 minutes or less, often your body sends you signals after that you are stuffed. But you can teach yourself to try to make the meal last longer by even talking to people while you eat, or just savoring the food. Then when the body hits that 10 minute mark, see if you feel hungry still, even if you have extra food on the plate. If you feel full, put it up and don't worry about it. If still hungry, eat a bit more. Basically, the 10 minutes gives your body time to react to the food that it has taken in and I've found in doing this I've lost some weight simply because I wait to see.

You may want to try to get some protein drink. I have this stuff I use called Designer Whey or Designer Protein Whey. This isn't a meal supplement but just helps get you some more protein and also will let you eat one meal with less need for food. It gives you energy and you mix the chocolate stuff with milk and it tastes pretty good. I don't think those drinks work that say to drink this and skip a meal sort of deal, but a protein powder drink such as what I mentioned is a good thing since you get some more nutrients and you drink some milk.

I wish you luck and know that losing weight is one of those things that does take some time to notice. You may at times lose 2 lbs a week and at other times 2 lbs a month or seemingly nothing at all. If you keep at it though you can break plateaus. I gained some weight in college, being a lazy bum and this helped me a lot since it was an altering of lifestyle in a way but low impact and I can still eat 'what I want' but I just watch how much I take in doing that 10 minute rule. One other thing is try eating a few times a day instead of just two or one because it helps keep the metabolism steady.

oh i didn't know building muscle helps burn fat, i thot it's just something that happens, haha. i guess i'll have to walk faster than, maybe also fill my backpack with a crap load of textbooks too. kinda hard to eat small meals throughout the day instead of eating bigger meals only twice being in school tho. are squats a very good excercise to burn calories?

    :]

well i guess its time for my problem now lol

I've had some health problems with my knee lately, and I've been a little scared of going back to the doctor. My doctor has taken me out of Gym/Physical Movement/Sports/Weightlifting/ETC to give my knee some time to heal. It was really progressing greatly, until my knee gave out on the stairwell at school... I almost lost my balance and fell back, but i grabbed the railing. I was quite embarrassed, but that was the least of my problems.. My health is better than my social life..

I had called my mom when i got to class, and it was still early in the day.. She told me to try and go through the school day because she had to work today... My friends even joke around and physically hit one another to be funny, but they actually hit in places where they think its actually funny for them to, and it actually hurts really bad.. They sometimes hit me in the breasts and another personal place, such as the place a boy would most likely not want to get hit.. I've been hit there many times after I've told them to stop, but they continue to do so... so I'm gonna have to talk to them about that, because every time they hit me in my little personal place, i ed up crouching down trying to gripe the pain, and it hurts my knee too...

Anyways, before i get off topic... My knee has swollen lately and looks a little deformed from the staircase incident, and I'm afraid i might actually need to get surgery on it.. There's a girl in my weightlifting class that is getting surgery, and she won't be able to participate in any Sports for the year... and that worries me because i really love to play Volleyball and I wanted to start Basketball this coming next year...

I hope your knee problem gets better and though you fear going to the doctor for it, you should so they can do better tests on it and get to the root of the problem. If you had to miss sports for a while you can always try to keep fit doing exercises that are not too hard on the knees. I hope you hear some good news and don't require such a thing but for a while you might have to take it easy. Have you tried elevating your leg at home and putting ice on it? It might help alleviate some pain and swelling.

As for those people that hit you...that is wrong. They certainly have no reason to be hitting you in the breasts or crotch and that's just rude and inconsiderate. You may just have to tell them outright that enough is enough and be firm. Say you don't mind joking and all, but the hits to those sensitive areas are not right and quit it. I have to say personally if someone was hitting me in the crotch I'd probably hit them back there so they got the hint but not sure I'd pass that out as advice since violence is generally frowned upon. Good luck and I hope things get better for you.

I've already had tests done on it... I've had some xrays and a physical done on it.. My last xrays were good, and my physical was kind of okay, its just that i had a little pain from it, and i have no idea why it is...

If i have to, i might have to report it to a guidance councler or principal... I don't care if they are my friends or not, if they really were, then they would stop... So, I'm probably gonna wear some sort of comfort, or padding and the next time they do it, i'll briefly explain to them i don't want it happening again, or i will go report it...

Yes, Physical therapy does hurt a bit >_> A good way to help your knee without actually doing anything to it is by improving your core. It takes less strain off the knee, or at least ive found that it was the case for me. And being without sports for a while sucks, but find something else to do (For me it was KHV lmfao)

As for the hitting thing, tell them you will go tell someone, and if they stop, great, if they don't, tell someone (:

Well at least it doesn't seem to be damage that might require surgery at this point. Did they give you any clue as to anything at all that might be happening like inflamed muscles about the knee or tendinitis?

Yeah, you may have to report it if telling them direct doesn't work. Real friends wouldn't do something like that if you asked them to stop. Are these girls or guys doing this?

No one tells me anything at the doctor... They just tell me i'm fine and send me home... The day i dislocated it, they took me to the hospital and didn't do anything for me.. They took xrays, told me i tore a ligament, they just wrapped my knee in an ACE bandage and sent me home on crutches... Like, two days later, they gave me a knee immobilizer... Which, they should have gave me one the night i dislocated it, so that i wouldn't have to bend it or anything.. Then on my next appointment, He sent me over to Physical therapy, and that's when i got my knee brace which allowed me to bend my knee and he said i could get off the crutches anytime i wanted, so now I'm off the crutches... Last night after i posted the problem, i tried back on my knee immobilizer and i actually didn't feel any pain whatsoever when i walked. I was perfectly fine, because i was unable to bend my knee. I'm thinking about going back to that for a little while, because I keep taking some pain relievers for me knee, and that's going to destroy my liver eventually...

They're girls who wanna show off mostly.. My volleyball coach is the health teacher and the other day he saw my friend hit me in the breast in the morning and actually yelled at me o.O Later in his class I talked about that and he just told me to stay away from them...

I didn't find the physical therapy painful at all o:
only the machines like a workout but thats it at that place... They put some sort of goop on my knee and like, enlarged my muscle and that actually tickled more than hurt lol

I'm sorry but i didn't say it correctly..By physical, i mean that when i was at the doctor, he moved my knee around to make sure it was okay... That's what hurt the most because he pulled my knee all the back and it felt like it was going to break again....

Point obviously to your immobilized knee, then offer to let him put it on and be hit in the crotch, to see how quickly he can stay away from you.

But seriously, you want to take a volleyball coach's reaction to heart? Nah. Go to people who are meant to deal with those problems, not teachers.
At least, in my school we were given a massive speech at the start of the year about bullying, so I suppose I am assuming slightly, but usually if you inform someone higher up, they can do something.

Better idea, get back on crutches. When they try to hurt you, wave them around wildly.

    Cupkake?

sometimes the knee cant take enough weight , i say this because of personal expirience and maybe you need to keep losing weight , because of the fact that you are doing sports right now and the weight might be too much

or , it could be something more serious, and in need of surgery

btw , Evilman, since youre a boy , you should be able to burn calories easily , what i do is , exercise every day , not too exaggerated , i do jump rope for an hour , the next day i walk for an hour , and of course natural supplements help too , and eating properly and healty , you shoulnt eat something heavy in dinner , just eat something light , like salad or even cereal , but you gotta cut on sweets too , just in case, and you should always try to exercise every day and try to buy fat burning pills , they help.

with that , ive lost ten pounds ,(of course that was me being lazy) but monthly that should work , but everyone has different metabolysms.

I am actually perfectily FINE when i put weight on it o.O
When i lift it after walking and it bends, thats what really hurts the most... It does hurt slightly when i put the pressure on slightly but my knee feels a little numb then i get an okay feeling, when i push of, i don't really feel anything bad

and Pika_power, me and my volleyball coach joke around so he was just trying to be funny and trying to kep me safe, so yes i take it to heart because he doesn't want me injured for the upcoming volleyball season xD

They're really annoying me now, but i don't wanna tell on them...

A friend of mine recentely has become mad at me. The reason being that she thinks I am judging her which I'm not doing that. To be honest she gets sad and mad really easily but I tend to make her mad and I usually don't know why until she starts to yell at me and **** like that.
Me and her were talking about another friend she said that our friend was annoying and I said that our friend wasn't. Then she goes 'yeah she is!' in a really i-know-more-than-you tone of voice it's the tone that people use when they think your wrong and there right or something like that and that tone irks me to no end. And all I said was 'geez don't be so defensive' and she yelled at me and said she wasn't.

This stuff has happened before and I don't know what to do. Last time she ignored me and then told me not to talk to our friend or the friendship will be over but she soon forgot about that.
