Ok, so i want to compress a file of 26GB so that its size will be reduced. At the moment i'm trying with Winrar but i don't think the size will be reduced at all. I've searched a bit but haven't found anything aside from DVDshrink which is too much of a trouble for me now.

And if i'm i'm not mistaken such a huge file can't be reduced to MB's right?

It depends on how far you're willing to go. I'm assuming it's a video file, usually the best way to compress those would be to convert them to another format (MPEG has pretty low file sizes, but it can hurt the quality), make the video smaller (depending on what you're using it for, you may not need a huge video), or use a different compression thing. Usually I pop it into Vegas and change some of the rendering settings.

Usually, you can't compress video that far without losing quality.

@Misty: Yeap, video file and some of those films already have lousy quality since they are really old, so losing more of their quality isn't exactly an option. Pretty much what i thought, although i didn't know Vegas could help. This is interesting.

Well, it is a good option but i found out that even Shrink can't compress a file that big to a small enough to fit either to a CD or a usb memory stick.

Anyway, thanks both, i just delivered the file at this size so problem no more i guess.
