HELP!!!! VIRUS ON MY COMP!! what does W32.Mimbot.B do, and how do i get rid of it????

HELP NEEDED!!!


whilst on MSN my friend sent me a message saying: Is this really you? and then following it was a link to a picture file on the internet that had my name in the title, and that came up as a white screen. The site prompted me to download a file called IMG00231.JPG-live.messenger which was an MS-DOS Application. It had Live Messenger in the title and my friend had sent it me, so i didnt suspect anything strange about it until i downloaded it and opened it. It automatically sent the same message (Is this really you? , and then a link to the same site) to the other person i was talking to, only instead of having my name in the title, it had theirs. I didnt find this out for about 10 minutes because until i started a video call, MSN randomly blocked me from talking to them. We looked into the file and it turns out it is a virus called W32.Mimbot.B. Neither of us are sure how to get rid of it - I was wondering whether any of you guys had had the same problem, and whether you knew how to get rid of it. I NEED HELP!!! PLEASE TELL ME WHAT YOU KNOW AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!!!!!

Install a really good antivirus program. I'd suggest AVG or Avast! Virus Cleaner.

If the antivirus can't do it, uninstall live messenger and try to locate the downloaded file and delete it.(out of your recycle bin, too)

 

Just scan with you're good Anti Virus. I don't know if it's the same one I got but yeah do that it's really simple. XD

 

omg this virus has been going around EVERYWHERE
just do what the others have told you and scan your comp with an antivirus program ^w^

 

I forgot to add not to freak. It happened to everyone. It's an old old virus. Oh and don't get mad at your friend either. Cause it's not his/her fault she must've had the virus too. You might be sending the same virus to your friends too so warn them if it's happened already just copy paste what we said lol. But seriously it's not a big thing to worry about.

 

Ok this may seem a little stupid to you, but i would try it....

First like the others have said definitly delete the file, find it if you can and destroy it! Then MAKE SURE to delete it form your Recycle Bin or else it can worm its way out and back to your computer! Then go under START menu, system tools, and lcick Defragment Files, it may take u to 20 minutes if you have never done it before or if you have a bad computer. Then when that is finished go back to sytem tools and click Disk Cleanup, this will make the computer delete all the files that are not being used and just storing up space (including any left over viruses). Then RESTART your computer! Uninstall your IM and reinstall it.

I have had many BAD viruses, so I hope that helps, at all.

 

Ad aware SE Personal. Best of the best imo. It'll find it and just take it out. I heard of others having this, so no worries.

 

Dang...i have a virus program that you can have...but its not freeware, and i cracked it soo its illegal

Or reformat your computer but before that. save everything you like on an external drive!

AWW MANN never mind, its easy to delete.... what M32.Mimbot.B does is open a back door on the compromised
computer (google)

The best anti-virus software that's both reliable and affordable would be Trend Micro Internet Security. It was voted #1 cheap and affordable by Consumer Reports. It's about $50, but it's worth it.

Make sure if you install ANY anti-virus software program to only have one installed at a time. If you have multiple anti-viruses, your computer's system will become unstable and you might have to reinstall your operating system all over again.

 

I suggest Panda Internet Security It's detected a couple of viruses on my computer, and I never had one since!

Delete the file, and Run another virus scan(the virus probably already spread through out your computer), and it should detect the virus, and it will most likely have an option to delete it..

This thing again? man when the similar thing hit half of msn like last year all we all did was delete the downloaded file and scanned our comps, worked fine.

 

This is a virus I don't know how to get rid of. You're going to have to get a new MSN e-mail and it'll be gone.
