I don't think so. Some people (like me) didn't really care for gen v (although I can't wait for gen 6) but it hasn't gone downhill imo. It's still a pretty good series.

The thing with Pokemon's repetitive format is that it still works. It's been a big hit since the first one came out, and that's what makes Pokemon Pokemon; gyms, legendaries, new Pokemon, exploring etc. I guess that' why they've come out with other titles like Mystery Dungeon and the like, to explore other things the Pokemon series can be, without losing the classic one. Now as for the show, MAYBE they can mix that up a bit, come up with something fresh, but I'm not really in any position to say coz I haven't watched much since the third season. I think Pokemon's doing just fine, nothing's perfect but it's still going great!

A few months ago, I would've agreed. But recently, I've been looking back at the games and noticing how fun they were. Don't let the anime speak for the franchise. The show hasn't been good for so many years now. And even if you still feel Pokemon is going downhill, or you're tired of it being too too much the same, at least give Pokemon X/Y a chance. I believe it'll be a huge jump for the franchise, and might hopefully win back some fans.

Not downhill, more of it's hasn't changed much. It's popularity and fanbase still seems the same to me. It's not going down, it's staying in the same level.

    Who necrobump this thread?
Anywho I honestly think Pokemon in general doesn't have a strong plot. It's more like "I'll catch as much as I can and win all tournaments "

Black and White fixed that by adding in the "I rule Team Plasma and will help them rule the world by beating the Pokémon League and becoming the Champion, and you will be the Hero and battle me and my dragon." Thing with N.

Not nessessarily down hill. But more like, the same damn plateu. For years. So redundant. Same villians. Same motives. Same elemental starters. Only in the 5th Gen was I surprised because they gave us
    two rivals
    !! I agree with Gultigargar.

And me and my friends talk about Pokemon to this day. And we started playing in the 90s. I played Yellow Version first. And don't get me started on the show. Is Ash still 12? I just think that Pokemon should have stopped about two games ago. However, I am looking forward to the Gen 6 game. Which I feel has potential. So I'm looking forward to it, but still. Some things need to end. I shouldn't be looking at the Gen 9 pokemon in a gaming magazine some day in the future.

No, it hasn't, and anyone who thinks it has is usually just trying to bash new things while hiding behind nostalgia goggles. The worst arguments I've seen have been about Pokemon designs. They bash things like Bidoof, Vanillite, Nosepass (yes, they're bad), yet they fail to see the terrible designs from the first two generations, like Mr. Mime, Jinx, Zubat, Wigglytuff, etc, but they'll always defend them as "classics." Every generation has brought some awesome designs, and some bad ones, so people need to get over the idea that the new Pokemon all suck (Chandelure, Garchomp, Infernape, Serperior, Xerneas, Yveltal would all like a word)

And gameplay wise, the best thing (to me) about Pokemon has always been the combat (obviously, in the games that use the traditional combat system), and while it's improved slowly, it has definitely become better now then ever thanks in part to the Special Attack and Attack split, innovative Type hybrids, status moves that don't suck (seriously, who keeps Leer or Screech?), and a bunch of different Pokemon whose stats change each battle up considerably. I love the Mario games, but they need to stop getting a free pass on for the most part having the same gameplay system if Pokemon gets criticized about it.

"Has Pokemon gone down hill?" I would like to point to the sales chart for 2012 in which Pokemon Black 2 and White 2 were the most sold games. People still clearly enjoy the games. They get better and better each time with story and gaming mechanics. Pokemon isn't going down hill at all. Until we hit 1000, it will most likely remain a hit.

When people say pokémon is going downhill, it's nostalgia, sure there are rubbish bags, ice cream cones in gen 5, but gen 5 also has Haxorus, golurk, Reuniclus, galvantula and many more great designs. Gen 1 has slimes, pokeballs, magnets, and rocks for pokémon design. Gen 1 also has Gyardos, machamp, dragonite, acrcanine and other good designs. Gen 2 has pokémon designs of letters, freaking letters, trees, punching bags, but has Ampharos, Skarmory, Tyranitar, Blissey and Politoed. My point is that each generation has good pokémon and bad pokemon, but the difference is with the earlier games, you were younger, who couldn't care less if a pokémon was an egg or a tree, you caught it is it looked cool, now, you are older, and are scrutinizing the designs too much, so for those who say pokémon id getting worse, take off those nostalgia glasses and face reality.

For me pokemon has gotten less and less intriguing. Looking back it was never a great game in terms of story telling or atmosphere but what truely "got" me back in the day, were the fights and worlds and badges and exploring, but it's sort of gotten stale over time. With the introduction of the second Generation things were just about better in every aspect. The story was longer there was more to do, more pokemon to catch and more types to learn. With Gen 3, there was not such a big leap and it wasn't so much different from the generation that came before it and the story was actually much shorter. Generation 4 was the last one I actively enjoyed, although it was just more of the same old thing. For me the "same old thing" just doesn't work like it used to. There really should be some sort of Innovation in my opinion.

What would you suggest? Just curious, as I've been trying to think of what to add as well. I personally really want customizable trainer appearance, as 3D models are already happening.
