Hardcore Twilight fans

Harry gets far more backstory than Pants though. Look at Pants. She's the new girl in a town with a stupid name. She sucks at volleyball. She whines about school. She's in love with two mythical creatures, one of whom showers in glitter and watches her sleep like the pedophile that he is.

Now look at Harry. His parents were killed when he was a baby, they put a spell on him to protect him from Voldemort who accidentally turned him into a Horcrux. Hagrid and Dumbledore take him to his aunt and uncle's house where they know no one will find him. Growing up abused and misunderstood, Harry begins to look upon his life with resentment. It's only natural that he leaves with a huge stranger from whom any other kid would run very fast in the opposite direction.

 

Well, that's partially why I don't like Twilight as much as I like Harry Potter, because the main character isn't flawed in anyway, she doesn't have anything in her past to overcome. But that's not the point of Twilight. Bella is supposed to be just a regular, uninteresting girl who's decent to look at. It's part of why there's a bit of a shock factor to the Bella/Edward thing at first--why is a vampire so interested in just a regular boring girl?

 

It doesn't matter how much backstory Harry gets, he still isn't all that interesting or complex a character.
And the entire Harry Potter series (well, maybe 90%) population is mythical.

Edward can't help "shower[ing] in glitter" and despite being over 100, he's still 17 year old boy at heart. He's just lived longer. He didn't go through the rites of growing up and going through the adult things. He's a 17 year old with 100 years of life experiences. Personality-wise, he's no pedophile. Physically, he is.

Also. Look at the quote in the banner given by Stephanie Meyer herself.

 

Decent to look at? WHAT THE HELL DOES SHE LOOK LIKE?! According to the book that is.

No regular girl is that boring. That's the one facet of her character outside of the whole vampire thing that makes her exceptional.

Still, the backstory makes Harry way more interesting than Ron or Hermione who are just normal wizards. I guess it's just me though. When I look at how interesting a character is, I look at him or her in terms of the rest of the story. Hermione is just a wizard. She's also a good student. No big deal. Boring. Harry is a wizard who's been hidden from the wizarding world for years and survived one of the Voldemort killings. Huge deal. Way less boring, right?

I still think it's creepy. And wouldn't it be the other way around? To put my feelings into a visual:

Meh, I don't like Twilight for one crucial reason only: The fact that Edward sparkles like a disco ball whenever he goes out into the sun.
This may be beacuse I read many other vampire books before my friend was like "Hai! you liek vampires read this lololololol" >_>
Anyway. Vampires are weakened by sunlight, they just shouldn't sparkle. They should either physically weaken or die. No two ways about it.
And if you still insist he is a 100% vampire, his blood was eaten by a FAIRY.

Bram Stoker's Dracula had no problem walking in sunlight and even was seen quite often in daytime hours. He just found sunlight annoying at best. His animu counterpart in Alucard can do this too.

To me, vampires are an apex predator. They're at the top of the food chain. So why do they need to sparkle in the sunlight? Wouldn't that tip the prey off that they're going to be killed/stalked/watched when they're asleep? Edward and his vampire brethern in S. Meyer's lore simply have a layer of dead skin that has formed an exoskeleton, like an insect.

So the secret is that they have an exoskeleton of sparkely dandruff. All over their bodies.
That is not attractive in the slightest.

Also the fact that her characters are the flattest I've ever seen. They have no personalities. Bella is boring. Edward is a creepy possessive pedophile/stalker. Jacob is obsessed with Bella(lord knows why.) to the point where he imprints on her unborn fetus unconceived child. The wole imprinting process is just squick upon squick. And I'm not often squicked.

 

Okay, I'mma pick up on some points here.

1 - The sunlight thing:
In the books that I've read (I never finished Dracula :( ), there is always a certain disadvantage to any vampire in sunlight. It either weakens them, or hurts their eyes (even slightly.)

2- Sparkling Dandruff:
Eeewww. Yuck.
You're completely right, that is disgusting... O_O

3- Boring characters:
Here is Generic Girl A, we are not going to do ANYTHING to her, except give her a new name.
Here is Generic Girl B, let's describe how she looks, how she talks and how she feels about life at the moment. Now let's give her a backstory. Oh, and we'll name her Sandra.
And let's called Generic Girl A, Bella.

To me, she did seem like the worst character ever, I was hoping for development, but it never came...

I don't agree with whoever said Harry Potter was kind of a generic character. Towards the end of the series he develops a lot and deals with lots of internal struggles that many readers probably have never had to relate to. But then, there were also many scenarios that readers could relate to, so idek anymore.
