So I was on youtube a few days ago when I came across this song. I think it has a really deep meaning. At first I was like, "this is crap" because neither the music video nor the song are like the usual things you see/ listen to. There 's a semi debate going on on youtube in the replies for the video about what it means. Heres the vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AuK2A1ZqoWs the song is called "Handlebars" and its by "Flobots." (Not trying to advertise anything) I have my ideas on what the song is about. I just wanted to hear your opinions. It actually reminds me of "V for Vendetta" if you've seen the movie.
I heard the song a long time ago... I didn't know they had an official music video for the song. The song itself is deeply symbolic. Its saying that the "corperate" big wigs have the mentality of school children. It sais that those in power are arrogant, self centered showoffs like a mere child.
I've never heard this song before, but i am glad you posted it. First off, it's simply a good song. I like listening to it. Second listen through, though, i started to kinda get it. The man has it down, he has hit the proverbial nail on the head. I also think that you're right, ICSP, but only half-way. In someways the school child mentality fits, but not in other ways. You ask a little child what he would do were he to become president of the united states, and nine times out of ten he will tell you what needs to be done to improve the state of this country. But somewhere along that age line it switches, you know? Everyone else seemingly becomes less important.
I think the most powerful line in this song is: My reach is global My tower secure My cause is noble My power is pure I can hand out a million vaccinations Or let'em all die in exasperation Have'em all healed of their lacerations Have'em all killed by assassination I can make anybody go to prison Just because I don't like'em and I can do anything with no permission I have it all under my command I think it shows strongest the point of this song, power corrupts. I wanna note, this songs been around for about 4-5 years, but is only NOW becoming popular on the radio and stuff...the bands been udnerground for a very long time. IF you wanna see something great, look for flobots' IRAQ rap
Oh, how i love this band. I've listened to all that Youtube can offer, and i'm gonna buy there CD as soon as i can. I think Mayday is my favorite.
I think the meaning behind the song is that humans have incredible power-the power to create, to love, to preserve, and to succeed. Unfortunately, we often use this power to corrupt, kill, destroy, and ruin. The music video shows how that affects the world. Apparently, one of the members learned how to ride a bike "with no handlebars", but as he reveled in this new ability, he remembered that somewhere, someone was being bombed by his country. That made him write this song.
