~Guardians~

"I just thought it was because one is just as insane as the other." Standing upon his back legs, "You know, going crazy from the isolation." He sighed for a moment, "But, Hell, what do I know?" the old rodent rested his bones on the wood.

Slipping on her shoes, the girl dashed outside just as Rath finished his last sentence. "C'mon Barney." She called whilst patting her knee.

He really disliked her calling him that....

Cupping the mouse in her hands, Josette took a look at the dragon and became instantly still. He wasn't anything like Rath and she could tell immediately; seeing him as she did towards everyone else.

Fafnir glanced down at the little girl and smirked at the little girl as he noticed how nervous she was. It really amused him seeing her like this

"What do you want Fafnir" Rath said walking out calmly with his eyes closed

'Heh I am your helper so I have to stick with you. Don't worry I won't bother you I am just offering you a ride' Fafnir telepathically told Rath as he lowered his head 'your choice...judging from the location of the girls house you have quite the journey' Fafnir told Rath

"very well then" Rath said. He would rather walk by himself but for the little girls sake he decided to take Fafnir's request "Fafnir over here is offering a ride. Lets go" Rath said

 

"UWAH!" The noise was out of excitement but it sounded as if she was about to heave out her breakfast in one quick move, "You can talk to dragons?" Hopping aboard the dragon and grinning from ear-to-ear, Josette could hardly contain her anticipation. "I can't believe it! You're like a dragon rider or something! Just like I heard from the fairy tales!" What an amazing thing this was!

Barnabas gave a half-hearted glare to Rath, "Don't even try telling her I can speak."

No matter how hard he tried he could never get used to Josette's hyperactive reactions. Rath just stood stunned at how fast she jumped up on Fafnir. "I can talk to him but this is the first time I am riding him" Rath said as he jumped up and landed on Fafnir's back.

Letting out a powerful roar the Dragon spread its wings and took off of the ground. Flapping its wings he began to soar in the air

Standing ontop of his back with his arms crossed Rath looked down at Barnabas 'she is really surprised about me and Fafnir. I'm pretty sure that mouse is her partner so why isn't she communicating with it? I guess that is not my problem' Rath thought to himself as he looked out at the sky and gazed at the view

 

There was a slight tug on his clothes, "I-it's scary up here!" Her whimpers began as barely audible to loud shreiks. "I don't wanna fall...." The altitude just made her cling to him harder, "Promise you won't let me fall!"
This was more pleaded than demanded, although she was about ready to wet herself at this point.

As this went on, the rodent jumped out of her hands and worked it's way onto the dragon's head for a better look, "Pretty fast for a lizard."

Rath let out a sigh as he unfolded his arms and grabbed the back of her shirt "I don't have to make that promise because you won't fall" Rath said and closed his eyes "but if it will stop you from complaining I promise you that you will not fall" Rath said keeping a tight grip on the back of her shirt

"hmph your surprised? Please I can go faster if I want to but I don't want our passengers to fall now" Fafnir said

 

The shreiks stopped immediately; this was more than comforting for the girl.
How long has it been since she's been held like this?
It was stupid- she was supposed to protect him not the other way around! As her first friend, she owed this to him completely and fully. But--the heights were just too much for her. ".......thank you..."

"If you insist." Barnabas propped his front legs forward and looked behind himself, "Although it would be quite the show, wouldn't it?"
If he could, he would be grinning at this moment.
"Ah, there's her house." The mouse nudged towards the mansion up ahead, his mannerisms much more sophisticated than they were before.

"indeed it would be a great show" Fafnir said as he descended upon reaching the mansion. Flapping his wing the dragon landed on the ground and lowered his head 'we are here' Fafnir told Rath

Nodding upon Hearing Fafnir Rath continued to hold onto Josette's clothes. With his grip still tight on her clothes he jumped off of Fafnir and pulled Josette along. "We are here" Rath said lowering the girl gently to the ground

 

Looking at her home, she then remembered her fib. He's going to want to enter her house isn't he? He'll ask questions. He'll want to know things. She'll end up burdening him even more. The fridge horror of it all just set in.
Quickly snapping out of her trama, she turned around, "Just wait right here!" and skipped off into the house. As soon as she shut the doors, said skip broke into a frantic race to get clothes on and get out before he noticed anything out of the ordinary.

"She's a snug little peach, isn't she?" he asked Rath with an air of what was either sarcasm or just smugness.

Rath looked down at Barnabas and let out sigh, something he realized he had been doing a lot recently "I guess we have to wait for her" Rath said crossing his arms. All he could do was wait

 

"Why don't you take a look around? I'm sure her parents would want to see whose hands she was in overnight." This was stated in such a casual manner;
Josette cannot get away with even the most miniscuel lie, no matter how good her intentions were. If she does, she'll begin to lie more and more. It's best to discourage children from things like this when they're young. Or at least, he figured this.

Rath looked down at Barnabas and once again at the mansion once more "yeah it would be a good idea to see her parents. Either way I need to talk with them about something. But either way I need to confirm something before that" Rath said and walked up to the mansion and casually opened the door walking in

 

As soon as the doors opened, the noise echoed throughout the empty mansion. Feeling her own heart stop, Josette dropped her shoes and froze in place. "Oh no..."

Scampering in quietly the mouse commented, "Homely, isn't it?" In the most sarcastic manner possible. He knew more or less that the girl would be scolded for this lie by the boy. How violent the punishment was, he surely didn't care. Children will be children.
And he had just about enough of her childishness.

"B-be right down in a second!" Echoed from upstairs, "Please, go back outside."

"No" Rath calmly said taking a seat on a near by chair "and I am not leaving until I speak with them" Rath said closing his eyes as he crossed his arms

 

Cautiously making her way down the stairs, now fully dressed in shorts, a plain tshirt, and a small longcoat; the girl began to shake. "T-they're not h-h-here."
Her heart was practically racing in her throat at this point. He was going to find out. He was going to find out. He was going to find out.

"...I see then" Rath said calmly as he suddenly opened his eyes and looked at her with a very cold gaze, one that would easily send shivers down your spine "where are they" Rath asked. It was more like a demand then a question

 

She firmly stood her ground and awnsered, "I don't know."
The moment then became too much for her and she pleaded, "Let's go. The thing is gonna start without us!" Although his glare sobered her up enough to admit, "I'm sorry....."

The doormouse sighed and perched himself upon Rath's shoe, "Little girls who lie grow up to be cruel women." He knew this truth all too well from experience.

Rath unfolded his arms and stood up as he looked down at Josette "so then you lied to me" Rath said coldly turning away from her and began to walk away from her towards the door

 

"I'm sorry" She said in a lower voice before yelling, "I didn't want you to worry about me any more!" Her head shook and she grabbed his coat, pulling him back into the mansion with stregnth that normally wouldnt be found in a girl as small as herself. "You can't leave." Josette's face looked incredibly worn down- as if the youthfulness just drained from her face in one instant.

"Just keep going." Demanded the mouse.

Rath silently pulled away his coat without even giving her a glance "and why should I stay? I no reason to" Rath said coldly as he continued to walk on toward the exit of the mansion
