Bayformers is to mechs as Abrams Trek is to Sci-Fi.

As in not really much at all.

Whether or not any human being agrees or disagrees with that or not does not matter-

What's important is execs going "HMM GIANT ROBOTS SMASHING EACH OTHER MADE MONEY... WE LIKE MONEY."

Also, Abrams Trek is sci-fi by definition. Whether or not it's hard or soft sci-fi is what we can debate here.

Just coming back into this thread to say that Abrams Trek is really good. Even by Star Trek standards. Doesn't seem like anyone's implying it's bad but I must say this. Of course it's not TNG good but it's at least better than TOS(and I love TOS).

Me personally I feel the first film in Abrams Trek was alright, it has its problems but I was okay with it. Into Darkness was awesome however.

I'm actually really surprised by this. Adam Sandler hasn't been doing well at the box office as of late.
Also I'm one of the few Trekkies who seems to like Abrams' Trek. In my honest opinion, they're really good films -- solid action, fantastic visuals, good cast chemistry, etc. They just aren't philosophical like the show. They aren't much softer in terms of sci-fi as far as I'm aware (it was all pretty soft to begin with).
I think if they were meant to be a television series I would be upset with them, but as films they're cool. My two cents.

Save the whales or else an alien probe will come by and destroy the world in search for humpbacks.

I liked Ambrams' Trek, but I have to agree with the Plinkett review, who goes on to say it's "Science Fantasy" rather than science fiction, and I think that fits. Doesn't mean it's a bad movie, but much like Resident Evil 5, which sucked as a horror game but was a dastardly good action game, it all depends on how you approach it, and what you expect of it.

Also, I get all of my opinions from other sources, so please treat me as such in the future.

    Just saw Pacific Rim
Very solid movie, nothing terribly unique, but it knows what it is and sets out to do it well
Definitely deserves to beat anything involving Sandler...

I know the discussion is mostly over, but MovieBob, a critic I often disagree with but am always interested in hearing from, makes a really good point about supporting original pieces of fiction (that I kind of touched on) by using Pacific Rim.

The only part I agree with on this is that there should be more support for original movies. Thus far, the best film of the year for me was Side Effects, a very original movie, but it seems like hardly anyone else watched it. There are some really good adapted films out there, but nothing is more freeing than something original.

Putting my money behind Pacific Rim is a different story however (and I've gone into that in further detail previously in this as well as other threads).

Exactly why? He's not saying not to support movies like Side Effects, or to support only big, flashy action movies. On the contrary, he's already said in the video that it's good to support new, creative ideas, no matter if they're likely to succeed or fail.

I'm really just getting the feeling now that you have some kind of vendetta against Pacific Rim. I get that you didn't enjoy it, as you've frequently made clear, but don't let that spoil the whole notion of simply supporting original films :\

I'm not sure if I ever said that I didn't like it. Really, I just thought the movie was "meh". I'm never one to spoil the fun of a movie for people. If you got more enjoyment out of it than I did, then I am sencerely happy for you. I guess my two cents isn't needed.

Adam Sandler is one of these actors that "seems good, but only gets poor roles at ridiculous movies", is the famous Nicolas Cage's syndrom.. you see the person action, and you feel that they are good, and that they could be doing good stuff! Like Adam has a realy good "sad face" a drama would fit him good.
The opposite of this would be Jim Carrey, that makes stupid movies good like the one with penguins.

I didn't see both movies yet (they are not here just yet, we just got Men of Steel friday the 12), but I really hope PR is good it will be the evangelion movie I never saw come to life.
