    Does anyone use this?

I've stuck with iTunes for years now, but I recently switched from my iPhone 4 to a Samsung Galaxy, so there's no real reason for me to continue using iTunes. I've tried MusicBee and Songbird before but just never found anything I really liked.

I'm transferring my library onto Google now to give it a go for a bit, I don't like that it doesn't have a desktop app but I can probably deal. Just thought I'd hear other people's thoughts on it.

( I'm not using the paid service btw, if I really fall in love with it I may try that out )

Yeah, it has a web interface and I'm pretty sure it's available for iOS devices as well.

I use it for my Nexus 5. I love how I can just put my songs onto iTunes and then it automatically uploads to Google Music and then downloads onto my phone. It's pretty cool.

    Ever tried Spotify?

I don't personally listen to enough different music monthly to ever justify these music provider's services. Spotify was good whilst its trial lasted.

    I ****ing hate Spotify.
    • The UI is awful
    • it contains basically zero library management, last I used it you couldn't narrow down your library AT ALL (like if I only want to listen to Max Richter songs in my library, I have to make a playlist? which results in people having literally hundreds of playlists, oftentimes with just a single artist or album. It's nuts)
    • it has a ****** selection. I like having covers and live versions and demos and remixes and Spotify is basically just "these are the tracks that were on the albums I guess." Not only that, but when I tried using it most of the bands I searched for were not available.
    • I don't want their ******, low quality, ad-riddled radio, and I don't think the service is worth paying any money for.
When you remove the whole "hey you don't have to download music anymore!" thing from Spotify (because of its crappy selection), it's really just a subpar music player.
iTunes isn't a great music player, in my opinion, but I've also never found one as good as it, so maybe I just have unrealistic standards for a music player. Tagging, especially batch tagging, is buggy as hell with it, it doesn't support FLAC or OGG, it's slow at times & unnecessarily resource-heavy (this has been improved lately but it's still imperfect), it lacks good auto-playlist generation (Genius has always been ****** to me), and I wish it had some deeper display options. It's great for podcasts though, generally looks nice, has some nice playlist functionality, and displays large libraries well. My discontent with it has often made me look at other solutions (like I said, I've tried Songbird and MusicBee), but because I had an iPod and later an iPhone, I couldn't really look beyond it. Now that I don't I'm curious about what's out there, which is why I'm giving Google a try (and it has a good advantage in being Android friendly), but if I don't like Google I'll go back to iTunes. If I do like Google a lot I'll probably keep using iTunes to some extent, just to keep my library organized and for offline listening, but ideally I'd like to replace iTunes altogether.

    Ever tried foobar2000?
It has an extremely customizable UI and a huge selection of plugins so you can make it look pretty much however you want. It also supports pretty much every sound format.

    We should make one together

We could even enlist Ed as the primary code monkey
