GODDAMNIT SKYPE THIS IS THE LAST STRAW

After this recent flurry of updates I can't bear the damn thing anymore. Stuff keeps getting shuffled around in the UI, my messages will randomly fail to send or receive, I basically can't communicate with anyone offline or invisible, I'll sometimes just be kicked at random - none of this through fault of my connection, I might add! I've checked!

Please tell me I'm not the only one having this problem. Please tell me we can organize a mass exodus to Pidgin or Pesterchum or something. Please God. Odin. Cthulhu. ANYBODY. ;_;

you never have any issues with anything. you are by far the most complacent person ive ever encountered

 

Pidgin is excellent so this is no problem for me o/
I do wish MSN never became PooTier, I miss all of my emotes and the excellence that was KELLYWHEEZE.MP3 ;~;

Skype gets way worse in its Windows 8 app incarnation, though. Unless you plan on just using video/voice chat, .01/10 would recommend if you wish to recreate hell.

I'm game for a move. Skype has given me some issues in the past, though the only reason I really even use it is because it's what everyone else is on.

I recall Ben being very pro-LINE in the past.

 

I have the Mac version of Skype. So far the only issue I have is that it crashes randomly.

I hate Skype because it involves cam and stuff and I have bed head and wearing no make up 97% of the time so

 

You don't have to cam on Skype. You can just do voice with it.

 

That's true. I forgot about that.

 

I updated my Skype a month or two ago and it subsequently stopped working, rolled back to an old version and I'm staying there.

I used to use Pidgin for MSN & AIM, and I really liked it. Customizable UI and it stored chat logs in txt files, as opposed to Skype, which outputs the ugliest things, and you have to copy & paste them from the client. Sadly there's no Pidgin "service," to my knowledge--you'll have to use one of the services it supports (AIM, Google Talk, etc.). I had trouble with group chats occasionally, and Skype at least does voice & video calls rather well.

 

I've got automatic updates turned on, and I'm on version 6.11.0.102 (released November 14).

 

I've had no problems with mine. Maybe you guys are just terrible.

 

I only have issues with the mobile version, and it does everything Nova's complaining about.

 

You can also type if you just want to do that. We have a skype group open for KHV peeps tho, you could always join that if you would like. It's not as good as voxli, but it works.

 

Do they make it a pain in the ass to roll back, or is it just a matter of downloading an old version like it was with MSN? I may just do that as well until I find a better solution.

Yeah, that's the trouble. And the real issue is it only supports Skype with an outdated plugin which requires you to have Skype open at the same time, so... not much point. I'm looking into Jitsi right now, might see if I can get anybody else on board with that. It works standalone or through other networks, but no Skype as far as I can tell. And the UI's not very flashy. Less than ideal, but it's nice to have a backup.
