Darn, I was just about to post this. I didn't see this coming at all, but I'm pretty stoked to see how this will work out. They're two completely different franchises in tone, storytelling, and gameplay. I can't wait to see what they do with it.

I love how they put Chiaki in as the 'female representative' for Nocturne, it would have made more sense to put in Yuko.
Nonetheless how did this idea even come up? I mean... its like Square crossing over with Disney, like that'll ever happen.

My god, that sounds like an awful idea, we can't let that kind of idea spawn in this world!

Doesn't look like it's a fighting game like Marvel Vs. Capcom. Maybe they'll mix them together like how Pokemon and Nobunaga's Ambition were put together

    This looks pretty interesting.

Odd to see Shin Megami Tensei in anything that's a Wii U exclusive, and it's quite a shame that this won't be coming to any other consoles (though they will hopefully port it later) but I'll probably be following this.

Fire Emblem is a Nintendo property, so i couldn't imagine it being on any other console.

Dang. All of these good games are tempting me to get a wii u. xD SMT and fire emblem together. That's definitely something to look forward to. Can't wait to get more info on it.

EHH Raidou is a stretch enough as it is since hes not in the direct SMT series besides his cameo in SMTIII. Dante is just out of the picture.

I can see them as a downloadable character or a preorder bonus

This game will probably be a giant kick in the balls,, Fire Emblem has permadeath, when a character dies, he/she is dead forever, there aren't any revival items, no churches, nothing, if he/she dies, they're dead forever, and this crossover will probably be no different, Shin Megami Tensei allows you to negotiate with demons, get them on your team, and there are chances to get very rare and powerful demons, and usually dark/light magic is very powerful, and if a demon has a weakness to any of them, the will get most likey get OHKO'd, meaning they will be dead forever in the crossover. Not to mention the game alone aren't easy, they aren't Gradius 3 standards, but they still pose some challenge. This isn't saying the game is going to be bad, and a bit of challenge is always welcome, I thought I should point that out.

Exactly the joke I've been making since this game was first announced. Daisoujou in a game with permadeath? Are you INSANE, people?

Still, thematically speaking, I'd be interested to see how the two worlds collide. SMT tends to mix past, present and future in its settings, whereas (as far as I know) Fire Emblem is strictly medieval fantasy. Will the FE characters feel out-of-date? Or will the demons fit right in alongside the dragons and... and dragons... Ok I haven't played that much Fire Emblem I just know there are a lot of dragons

you know, there is an option in the new FE that turns that off. permadeath is no more.

Yeah, but there are two important questions here: 1) Is that going to continue being an option in this crossover, and 2) how will the one mode be balanced against the other?

You can't just add the option to shut off a vital component of the game and call it a day. The game has to be designed with that option in mind, such that it is difficult and it presents a challenge no matter which mode you're playing. Will perma-death SMTxFE be so murderously unfair that everyone opts to play with it off? Or will non-perma-death be so easy that no one bothers with it? I joke about it, but it'll be a balancing act, to be sure.

I suppose it really depends which game the cross-over takes after the most. With most cross-overs, two developers decide their games would work well together, but only one volunteers to actually develop it, and that ends up setting the tone for the game (See Street Fighter x Tekken for reference: basically Street Fighter with Bob and Lars). Which side is most involved with this one in particular? Hard to tell from just a trailer with the companies' names stickered on it. Hell, have we even confirmed if it's an RPG or TRPG yet? The only news I've seen of it is the announcement that it's going to be a thing.

Non perma-death will be easier, but even on its lowest difficulty settings, the Fire Emblems I'e played have offered pretty stiff challenges that heavily punish lack of forethought
But I mean, it's entirely possible this game won't even fuse both gamepaly styles. Maybe it's just s crossover in terms of story, or they'll switch between the two
