    Are you seriously that dumb?
My post was a joke, i'm pro-gay marriage. It's a sarcastic reply to the people who are against gay marriage.
You're the only one who thought that was a serious post, that was an argument to debase the ones against gay marriage.

HOLY **** WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU ON
He meant it as a joke, smart one. What he meant to say is that even the so-called top reasons are crap. In case you didn't notice, he's pro gay marriage.
Thanks for giving me a laugh though.

EDIT: lilbueno already responded himself. Oh well.

Besides Catfish's stupidity and comical post, let me get back to the subject at hand.

Something interesting to think about, will eliminating gay marriage eliminate homosexuality? The way I see it, homosexuality will always exist. Whether you call it life partners or marriage, it will still be here. To the people who really think homosexuality is unnatural, stopping them from getting married will not make them straight.

I am so ****ing sick of this even being an issue. It needs to just be legalized already. If you're in love with someone, you should be able to marry them, regardless of their gender. Simple as that.

Also, I find it quite intesting that while Christians ***** about it being wrong all the time, you almost never hear **** about other things the Bible says, such as not eating shellfish.

And correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't it also say it's okay to stone your wife and sell off your daughter?

    ...Debate? What debate?

Personally, I feel that gay people can have civil unions and let us straights keep marriage as a binding contract between a man and a woman by God. They'll have all the rights without impeding on a sacred millenia-old tradition.

The moment divorce, anullments, and drunk weddings became legal, it stopped being sacred

To be clear I'm not for divorce or any of those things. Marriage is something that belongs to religion, not for the state to just hand out.

You can stone her if she's not faithful, I believe. I haven't read the bible since I left the faith, though.

Marriage existed before Christianity was even a thought, and arose spontaneously in many pagan cultures around the world. There is nothing about it that is "sacred".

I do not regard marriage as an institution between a man and a woman, personally, but if the Church won't marry them, they should be allowed a marriage by law, at least.

    inb4 massive gay marriage debate.

EDIT: Article finally showed up. Time for some content!

Well, when all else fails, money will get politicians to do anything, pretty much. In the circumstances the world is in today, I can't say I care very much about gay marriage, although, honestly, it does make me feel a bit uncomfortable to see it happen. Just my Christian heritage again, I guess.

It absolutely should be allowed. Honestly, if two people love one another, complete one another, and think they make a good match, they deserve the option to get married. If it turns out they made a bad decision and aren't good together after all, they can get a divorce like any heterosexual couple in the same situation. People are just so stuck on the fact that it's two men or two women. Who cares? They love each other. People in love tend to get married, unless they're against marriage.

Yes, yes I believe it should. So what if I'm Christian, I object to this and always will. Its about love, and if males and females are turned on by their gender let them be. I don't believe that we should be judged by who we choose to love and marry, I think that's kind of sexist in a strange way.

    ^This, this and only this!

ali is absolutely right. Gay marriage should be allowed. I'm probably one of the most religious people here, and i think its horrible that its not allowed.

Gays should be able to get married as should anyone else be able to. It's just another milestone that has to be leapt across because religious zealots try to say they control marriage and they have no rights to. There are quite a few Christians that even disagree with the zealot fundamentalists that make a bad name for them. Marriage was not established by the Christians, no matter how much they try to say so. The origins of marriage are even a mystery though rationale for it can be drawn. Romans and Greeks prior to Christianity etc, married and could divorce with no need for approval from a religious group. Other cultures had their ways as well, including Egypt.

Think of why marriage was even around? It was a way for a man to lay claim to a woman and say she's his and that no other man could have her. Later, it moved to also being a business proposition between families so that the daughter would be taken care of and have a life at least on par to what she had formerly being raised with her family. It also meant that the man would have a quality wife to have children with. Most marriages also kept the newlyweds in the same monetary bracket they had grown accustomed to since marrying someone too poor was heavily frowned upon.

Marriages also became recognized that the church would have to have involvement later. However, then marriage became the right of the government to know in quite a few places, and people no longer had to have marriage made official by the church. Marriage done in the way of the church, with the way that families forced marriages were not done out of love, and it certainly was not an issue as the woman was expected to learn to love the man and that was that. Men were expected to have children with this woman whether he cared about her or not. End of story.

marriages to people who are not of the same ethnicity
marriages to people not of the same class
marriages not done in churches with witnesses
women at one point could not marry if they were over 20. hence the old maid deal.
etc, are some of the ways denied by the various Christian churches.

Native Americans, Chinese, Blacks etc could not be married to Caucasians by rules of the churches for both Protestant and Catholics for some time. Fortunately, governments became more involved in marriage so that these rights could be fought for and nowadays it would seem silly for this to not be permitted. Wealthy people could not marry someone poor as it was an insult to class, though of course people fantasized about the prince whisking the poor girl away in fairy tales to be married and live happily ever after. In the end, the girl usually found out she had noble blood.

In the end, gay marriage is the last fight perhaps to make people realize that they should be concerned about their -own- marriages and not other people's who want to be together. The reasons for denying ethnic difference marriages were just as silly as the gay marriage ones. 'It's not natural'. Yet even some animals are gay and raise offspring from other animals that have been abandoned. There just is no argument for denying gay marriage anymore than there was of denying others who are in love the rights to be married. Though this is a huge battle in the end, I hope right wins.

Repliku - marriages also, in various points and cultures in history, have been used to cement family or clan ties, and make political alliances. Not that that matters to the discussion at hand, though...

I agree, and I'm hoping your right that this is just another one of those obstacles that those who are discriminated against have to face. Years ago, it was a common mentality to believe that people of different ethnicities should not marry, just as it is typical to find people against gay marriage today. Hopefully, a few decades from now, people will be able to look back and be astounded by the fact that gay people were ever not allowed to marry. We're making progress, and if history is enough to show us that people can overcome discrimination, homosexuals shall gain their basic human rights soon enough.
