Who are you to say that? You're just another person. People have no say in what is and isn't natural and the like, as for that disgusting part, good luck getting people to reach a consensus with that.

I don't see a problem with homosexuals, nor do I have a problem with gay marriage, despite what I was brought up to believe (I'm Catholic and I attend Church on Sundays, as I seem to follow my friends family rituals more than my own). But Church has made me think that marriage should be more between a man and a woman, the idea of two homosexuals getting married is a little odd to me, but I will never have a problem with it, as I believe that marriage is the coming together of two lovers, and that's all that matters.

You can have whatever opinion you wish as long as you back it up with some form of reasoning or evidence, of which you have offered none.

I don't see a problem in it. Gay marriage is fine with me. My religion and many others are actually against it, but i think theres nothing wrong with gay marriage.

Everyone deserves their own freedom. Homosexuals have the same rights as anyother person. If churches won't allow it, I'm sure there is someone out there who is willing to marry gay couples. [even though my religion is against it, its one of many things I object to]. Have a happy life, not a miserable one, go get married xD.

Being a homosexual has been outlawed for centuries by the church (they used to kill people for it in oh so lovely ways) so its no surprised they won't change now. I myself do not care who is gay or not, as long as they are happy with their choice. It's becoming legal in more states, but I don't think its legal in mine yet. Getting married isn't as simple for them, because they need to find someone who will actually marry them, and they need to go to a state where it is legal.

...what? The majority of this thread is spam might as well whore myself a couple of extra posts too.

In all seriousness, either contribute to the discussion or don't bother posting, unless of course you want me to move this entire thread to spam and you all lose the nice shiny posts you have gained through pointless posts?

CtR, I love your posts, you have the most "siggable" quotes and yr post always makes threads just a little better.

    Ignorance needs no reasoning.

As for the thread subject itself:
Can someone tell me any reason the government itself has stated for keeping gay marriage illegal?

We had a debate in class and this girl said it should be illegal because this country was built on Christian beliefs. Well, since then the government has made a point of saying church and government are separate entities. Don't we love when the government contradicts itself?

I personally cannot remember the reason either. It would seem that this, like many other laws on the books, is a relic from older days when the public didn't care as much about separation.

I was, I admit, brought up with a strong prejudice against gay people, and I still feel a small twinge in my gut whenever I think of gay sex, but I like to think that I am a little more open now, and any objections I have are small, based on science, and probably non-applicable in this instance.

America wasn't really founded on christianity anyway, at least not in the way most people imagine.

A great part of the people who you consider to be the founding fathers were actually deists, and were for separation of church and state, I don't think they'd be proud of what the country's become since then in that regard.

Yes, but many of the original settlers of America (or at least, North America), were Christian, at least in name.

Before or after they killed off the Native people that were already existing quite happily there? :D it makes me laugh how they can be so rigid in their ways of what is right and what is wrong, when they themselves are hardly innocent and cuddly when it comes to forcing a group of people into change.

I never said they were good Christians, just that they said they were Christians. They came here to escape the persecution of their beliefs. It just never occurred to them that they shouldn't do the same to the natives here.

I never said that you said they were good Christians, I just felt it needed to be thrown in there.

let them do what they wish. they are humans and love as well. if they want to get married, thats their decision, despite what their sexual preference is.
