Honestly, I really don't care. Gays have a right to get married. Even if I didn't have anyone in my family that was gay, I'd still be okay with it.

People are born gay. Last year I had this type of debate in my History class and practically my entire class said that if you hang around with someone that is gay, you will become gay. Being gay isn't like a disease that you catch if you're with someone that is gay.

I have an uncle (not blood related) who is gay and I hang out with him all the time. No he doesn't try to rape me and no he doesn't float around cleaning other people's houses. He's married to another guy and I don't care. They're good people, not sinners. Let em do what they want.

The topic of gay marriage is actually something I like to learn about. It conflicts perfectly with a concept that's always bugged me.
The separation of church and state is almost a joke (at least in the US). For crying out loud! our currency even says that we trust in God and God is mentioned in the anthem. It's obvious that church and government do mingle, but is that bad?
The constitution is heavily influenced by religion, especially christian. The whole concept that 'all men are created equal' is based from religion. Religion has given the government a great influence on how to treat people. Their are a lot of references of military based governments and how cruel they treat their populace. Religion can influence a government positively. So how do we decide when religion is controlling the government too much?

Btw, I do believe that gays should be able to access the same rights of married couples. The church may refuse to marry a gay couple in the church, but the government should allow gays to be seen as married in their system and given those same rights.

    I'm Christian, but...

I say atleast them them have a domestic partner ship or something if not marriage...I mean, I honestly have no issue with them getting married...it may not be "Holy", but it's still love in some sense, so that's what I think....

I don't see why they shouldn't. It's only a church issue about people being gay, so why should it affect the state? Separation of church and state people! Some people are so close-minded. Like this one girl I talked to about it said she didn't support it because it was a sin, but I followed up with a "But that's only your religion" and she got all offended. I just don't understand people who are against it.

I think the point of separation of church and state is so that the people of a country can freely practice whatever religion they wish (as long as it doesn't break any laws) without governmental retribution. The idea was being formulated in the wake of things like the Inquisition and England's break with the Catholic Church and persecuting anyone not of the Church of England. The people who came here wanted a place to worship how THEY wanted (of course, being the fundamentalists they were, in the beginning they were pretty intolerant themselves). When our government was founded, they carried that idea over. Yes, our founding fathers were influenced by Christianity, but so was almost everything else back then.

The concept of "created equal" is much the same. The words are religiously based, but the meaning is designed to provide an alternative to the class-based systems in Europe (even though women and non-whites were excluded for a long time).

I personally am very glad for Christianity's influence on America. I mean, for all Christianity's flaws, it is, in concept, a very positive, peaceful religion. It can go too far, of course, as seen in the unreasoning fear, it seems, of stem cell research, or the present American generation being too afraid of war to actually let the military win.

Sorry, got a little off-topic there. See my earlier posts for my opinion, lol.

Yeah, Obama made it so the government would fund it and it is legal now I think, so yeah Christianity lost that fight...oh well, we'll always have Jesus...

What do you mean, "we"? I'm an Atheist. I just appreciate the things Christianity DID do for this country. I'm glad that Obama did that. It's about the ONLY thing about his policies I like, but let's not go into that...

BTW, something funny: Obama autocorrects to Alabama. Lol.

I just meant us Christians, sorry I didn't know you were atheist...I'm glad Obama did that to actually cuz now some good science can get done...and Christianity has done a lot of good for this country no doubt, but people should have the right to be together reguardless of gender...

Question, what right does obama have to autocorrect anyone?

When othewise innocent people, who are hurting nobody by being who they are, have their rights denied because of a religious belief.

I can't think of many others as to why anyone would think homosexuality is bad. Homosexuals are a minority in the population, and we've got too many people as is anyway, so the whole "human race dying out" thing isn't really applicable.

I reiterate: if priests don't want to marry gay couples because of their belief, that's fine, but *civil* marriage is unrelated (or should be, anyway) to their institutions, homosexuals are, at the end of day, regardless of your convictions, human beings. They have feelings, goals, dreams, they deserve kindness, respect and the right to pursue their happiness as long as it doesn't harm anyone else.

Theists who believe homosexuality is immoral need to accept that their religious convictions are *not* the only ones in existence, and that not everyone should have to follow laws based on their beliefs alone. The separation of church and state was created for a reason.

    I couldn't agree more.

I've heard a lot of people say that gay people are evil and things like that, and I honestly have no idea why they say that. I mean, sure, there are the people who might go around murdering people or raping people and just happen to be gay, but nearly everyone that's gay that I've met is perfectly nice and ready to help if you need it, just like most of the straight people I've met. It confuses me.

Stereotypes in general confuse me. I mean, through personal experience, people should see that nothing can be placed into a neat little box. I bet you anything that the majority of the people bad-mouthing gay people are religious. Not that all religious people bad-mouth gay people, but it is in religion that you find the strongest outcry against homosexuality. That's one of the reasons I left the Christian faith. I couldn't stand the intolerance of many Christians.

Gays are ****ing disgusting. God did not want men to become fudge packers. It's filthy and makes me sick.
I think being a gay should definitely be a capital punishment.

But not the lipstick lesbians. We can keep them. I like them.

That is the most disgusting thing I have ever read in all of the years I've visited this forum. I might get in trouble for saying that, but never before was I so angered by one man's insanely ignorant view.
Not saying you can't hate gay folks, but DAMN, did you REALLY have to put it that way? How repulsive.

Learn a lesson from my example. I have now been reprimanded several times for feeding trolls. I could say a few choice words to that guy as well, but that's what he wants. He wants you to make fun of him so he can get a few cheap giggles. Shameful, yes, but don't react and perhaps eventually they'll go away.

Happens to us all. I still fell into their traps, even though I spent time (a while ago) at places like 4chan.
