A Connecticut church posted a controversial video on YouTube that raised questions about the treatment of children by a leader of a gay and lesbian teen mentoring group among others

The video features church elders performing what looks like an exorcism, of what they refer to in the video as "homosexual demons"

The video shows leaders of the Manifested Glory Ministries in a frenetic scene, screaming, "Right now I command you to leave!"

At the same time a teen writhing on the ground as the adults around him implore so called "homosexual demons" to get out.

The leaders yell at the boy on the ground saying, "Right now in the name of Jesus, I call the homosexuality, right now in the name of Jesus."

For 20 minutes it continues with the boy in a near seizure, even vomiting.

Yet again, modern society makes it embarrassing to be a Christian.

I feel sick. This type of incident makes me genuinely fear the heavily religious. I realize this isn't everyone, and I realize this isn't an often occurence, but... this was a 16 year-old kid for Christ's sake. Hell if he can tell if he's gay or not, same as anyone else. No-one at that age knows their sexuality, from what I know, and no-one deserves this kind of treatment.

The thing is, Christianity teaches to love your neighbour, and God himself is described as (among other things) benevolent, or all-loving. So why is it that a man loving another man is wrong by the Christians view? I simply cannot get my head around the sheer hypocrisy of this. The Bible seems to favour Men anyway, so why is this veiwed as wrong?

BTW, I find that their thinking this teens "homosexuality" is a demon is kinda funny, as it just proves more that they feel it's not normal, so it has to be something else, inhuman. Considering previous christian racism, (such as Apartheid in South Africa) and the fact that most of the christians themselves in the video were black, I'm suprised that they are taking this attitude towards being Gay, considering how they would have been treated by previous Christian regimes. I can only hope the churches official position on gays is changed as was the Apartheid attitudes.

But hey, those are my views. No one says their right. >_> (this is also the THIRD ****ING TIME I've had to post this. Damn my internet is crap.)

The bold underlined part is what I wanted to point out most. Even a group that believes homosexuality can be "cured" was against what the church did.

Even if the boy wanted the "exorcism", it's only because the church made him think something was wrong with him. That's just cruel. They're giving the rest of us Christians a bad name.

    This.

This is just sick. I hate how homophobic our society is. Gosh, let people be who they are and don't let it bother you. It's not your business if someone is gay! Back off!

Also, no, you cannot "become straight" any more than you can "become gay". A person is born one way or the other. It's not like choosing a religion or a favorite color. It's a part of who you are.

That is just stupid and cruel. If a person is gay, let them be.

Very disgusting, and typical of religion (and human beings in general, fearing any form of difference). Man's most useless invention has struck again. =P

    They don't.

This is one of many reasons I have renounced Christianity. Just another example of how prejudiced and backward the church can be.

I feel the same way man. That's the same reason why I didn't want to be a christian anymore.

If he is religious that makes sense, but it would also make sense if he wasn't religious, cause I can honestly say I know someone who isn't comfortable because they feel that it's wrong to be gay.
His family isn't specifically religious either

Also, I have a question for the exceedingly religious.

Ok. So God created man, right? So... if he didn't want gay men, then wouldn't he have not created them in the first place, so we wouldn't have this controversy?

god created man and woman, whether they choose to be homosexual or not is there choice, god didnt create a special group of people that are meant to be homosexual, its a decision that that person made for themselves

what i dont get is why homosexual people get treated differently, they are still people, why should they be treated different from everyone else?

I like almost everything you said except for the word 'choice'.
It isn't a choice, it is somthing you are born with.
It's no more a choice to be gay than it is to be left handed.
    Yah know?

there's simply no evidence for that. The American Psychological Association said that there's no proof of anything like that.

"There is no consensus among scientists about the exact reasons that an individual develops a heterosexual, bisexual, gay or lesbian orientation. Although much research has examined the possible genetic, hormonal, developmental, social, and cultural influences on sexual orientation, no findings have emerged that permit scientists to conclude that sexual orientation is determined by any particular factor or factors. Many think that nature and nurture both play complex roles. ..."

I don't think homosexuality is a "choice" but more of a matter of the environment you grew up in. If you grow up with two gay parents, you have a high possibility of being gay. two straight parents, and you have a higher possibility of being straight. and if you get molested, there's a higher chance of being gay, etc.

As for the topic at hand, this is stupid. The church not only had no right to do that, but no REASON to believe that this person was possessed. He was just gay. there's a difference. Now if this kid started yelling in a deep voice with his eyes glowing red and his head turning all the way around, then that would be a different story.

While I am a Christian and absolutely do NOT condone this, I find it frustrating that people tend to judge ALL Christians based on things like this. Just because a church in Connecticut would do something stupid like this doesn't mean that all Christians would.

Thats not how it works. Thats like saying growing up two dissabled parents will make you disabled. Being gay is not a virus. Also your quote from the APA says that " no findings have emerged that permit scientists to conclude that sexual orientation is determined by any particular factor or factors."
Also can you please provide the link to this quote?

I never said I judge all christians; although it would be alot easier.
Anyway, I judge homophobes, and people who don't believe in evolution.
Actually judge is the wrong word, what I meant to say is I like to help them clear their mind; then again that is pretty much impossible.

In all honesty, I think this is pretty disgusting. It's not like he ever did anything to them.

To be fair though, the number of Christians who would actually do something like this are small in number.
