Huh... I had no idea this was Metal Gear Rising... or Devil May Cry... Or God Hand... Or Wind Waker.... Or Red Steel 2... or anything made by Treasure...

    Learning so much today.

EDIT: You know what, let's just compare this to God Hand

    God Hand has:

    Batman does not have:

    Nor does it have:

Double quote here. The problem is a reviewer should NEVER make a blanket statement like that. Ever. It's his opinion, but objectively there are smoother combat systems with less glitches (such as limb clipping). If he had said it's one he finds more satisfying for some reason or other, that's a different story.

His blanket statement is dumb, tries to come off as the final word, and this is why game reviews are fucking shit.

Are we talking just plain beat-em-ups? Because anything by platinum's got that in the bag.

If we're talking all genres, I would be hard pressed not to refer back to the Tales of series.

But it's all down to personal preference so I vote we turn this thread into a discussion about what games have awesome combat systems, since it's fairly obvious that this reviewer is biased and their score was likely directly tied to a wad of cash.

I like the Batman Arkham combat system.

Now to label any game's combat system as the best...I have no clue what to put for that.

Even when we're talking RPGs though, Star Ocean beats Tales nigga!

As far as games with awesome combat systems, GOD HAND, Viewtiful Joe, Kid Icarus: Uprising, Metal Gear Rising, Wonderful 101, Pikmin, and I'm rather fond of Demon's Souls and Twilight Princess.

So selecting an attack is better than having to actually press buttons? Since when was that a thing?

They're just specials and very few and far between. I just like the gifs. There aren't many of God Hand period, let alone some that aren't QTEs.

Also, JRPGs need a word with you while you reword that sentence and consider how well you sang the praises of Pokemon X/Y. Got what you meant so we good there. Just sayin'

You wouldn't think we have a Gaming section. Or that people's opinions are to be respected. Or that we should listen to any reviews. I don't know why anyone here listens to reviews if they don't respect differing opinions, it sounds like people are going around just to bittch and cry that their opinion isn't law.
The reason it's summarised as gaming's best combat system is to say it's fun to play, and it is, loads of games have copied the Arkham combat and stealth formula, both of which are fantastic and fluid and make you feel great. There is a reason people read the full review and watch gameplay of it. The article itself explains more, the comments in the article even have another reviewer on the team saying Bayonetta's is better, but isn't surprised nor really disagrees the games combat can be called as such.
I would really like to see how people here would review games.

The difference between Good Hand and Pokemon looks to be the fact that one is a turn based game and the other looks to be similar to a hack and slash. Apples and Oranges, dude.

    >Good Hand

God Hand is a beat 'em up. The gif's are of a roulette wheel in the game that let's you do basically mega attacks. K? K. The rest is full brawler.

As for the apples and oranges, they're both combat systems. RPGs can have very brawler like combat systems. That's part of why his blanket statement was so dumb.[DOUBLEPOST=1382696102][/DOUBLEPOST]

Wow! Excuse me Mr Mod, are you going a little offensive today?

And some of us DOOOO! The thing is, you're listening to us, niche players, on the downtrodden side. We're allowed to get mad. Even if we don't lsiten to reviews- the fact someone is hindering something we like or making bold dumb blanket statements deserves to be called out. Responding to a review is a lot different than reviewing a game too.

EDIT: YOU KNOW WHAT? Aren't you the one who constantly buts in and puts other people's opinions down because HIS opinions aren't law? Fuck the thread, you don't get to talk down to people like that.

If you have a problem with my moderating, report me to another staff member by all means, and they'll query it. But my opinion has nothing to do with being a mod, nor does it warrant a hostility. I am a member here too.

I'm listening to your opinion, it doesn't matter if you consider yourself niche or downtrodden, it doesn't make your opinion any greater than the reviewers. You may be allowed to get mad, as you put it, but it doesn't mean you have to call someone '****' or insult them as a person, that's disrespectful. Even if the reviewer isn't a member here, I feel it need not come to that.
And if you really cared about addressing a 'dumb statement' why aren't you posting in the comments of the review, and challenging the reviewer? Calling him out on KHV isn't going to open up a debate with the reviewer, it doesn't seem very productive and seems more like complaining because you fear confrontation.
I don't know of anyone who listens to purely the summary and rating of a game review without reading the full review, at the least. It's 352 words long, so shouldn't take a minute. There is also an accompanying article with the review questioning whether the game is good as a sequel in a franchise, and whether sequels are good for a series, as well as upcoming gameplay on the multiplayer. I would advise people to read the review and article if they wanted a broader and more detailed explanation.

    Review:
    http://www.videogamer.com/reviews/batman_arkham_origins_review.html

    Accompanying article:
    http://www.videogamer.com/features/...rigins_batman_returns_but_is_that_enough.html

Also, how can I but into a thread? I never state opinion as fact, i constantly put 'just my opinion' or the like when in a discussion, if I have faltered in that before I apologise, but I feel it obvious to people on this site by now who I discuss with that it's my observations i'm talking about.

I'm putting off playing this game to post in this thread, which is amusing to me.

i just need you to know that this thread was started mostly as a joke. yeah i found it funny someone think's Arkham has the best combat in gaming but i'm in no way actually wound up about the guy's opinion. jeez. and there would be no point in me posting in the gaming section when i wasn't even taking the topic seriously. so maybe try loosening up and not being so uptight about a few people looking at a review of a ****ing video game and having a bit of a laugh about it.

also i just want to clarify that i enjoy the Arkham games but i don't think in any way that they have a great combat system. they're fun but they're hardly a step up from Assassin's Creed. there are many more that are much deeper and satisfying.
