GameFAQs is holding a "Game of the Decade" contest. Evidently it has been going for a little over a week now but this is the first I'm noticing. This is a massive bracket and even with them doing two matches a day this will take them to Christmas Eve. As you can probably guess by me posting it here Kingdom Hearts is in the bracket. Both 1 and 2 actually. You can see the bracket HERE. So what do you guys think about this?

I really don't understand how Megaman 9 beat anything. That game didn't clear up any plotholes in the Megaman universe. >> As for my opinions on the other games, for the "East Division" I don't see any game that could possibly stand a chance against Prince of Persia: SOT so that should win in that little section. For the West Division, Shadow of the Colossus seems to be the one with the biggest chance of winning.

I'm glad both KH and KH2 are in. 8D I'm hoping Kingdom Hearts will win there.

KH2 is up against Halo....it isn't gonna win :/ but feel that KH is gonna get kinda far-ish if not the finals. but we will have to see :<

I just noticed. In the north devision they are going to have a battle of Halo vs Halo now. But yeah I do have to agree with you on the Halo vs KH. It's all a popularity contest and Halo was popular enough to revive a basically dead console.

Agreed, that' s a popularity contest. Games like Okami, Ico or Odin Sphere don' t stand a chance.

Things like this are the reason i don't really go to GameFaq very often. To be blunt it's crap. They aren't organised in any particular way, they aren't being categorized by strengths and weaknesses and they are just being put up against any game they see fit. I mean they have Portal going up against Gears 2. They don't have anything from the Resistance Franchise, their is a strict lack of any quality games outside of best sellers. Its a list of which made the most money and not even a very good one...
...This fail can't even be put into words...

Not to sound bashing of your opinion or anything, but it seems like you don't like the fact that your favorite games are up there?
I mean best sellers are quality games, right? Isn't that why they're "best sellers?"

Not necessarily. Popular doesn' mean good. A game with earth shattering sales could mean a good ad campaign instaed of a good development team. I mean the main games that are crap but sell well are movie tie-in games. Though of usually bad quality people buy them because of what they are associated with, and not as stand alone games. Popularity is a fickle thing.

I look at the list and I either think: 'That's a good game, but so's the other one. Is that one more popular? thhat's a ard one.' and 'geez, no competition, that one's going through.'
I've played alot of those games and I have to admit they are all good in their own rights. Pitting them against each other is just too difficiult without a tally chart, which I couldn't be bothered with. I personally don't think either KH game will make it past the seond round. They're up against really popular games, whilst KH is less well known compared., even though they deserve it.

Things like this are the reason I avoid sites like IGN and Gamefaq. You just know it's going to be the recent instalment of the most recent FPS game that's going to win, even when it's a horrible, horrible game.

The only thing I don't really like here is that it is still too close to the time frame it is judging. By 2015 I think we would have a good sense of what the best is. The problem is that people tend to think in a "new=good" fashion when it comes to video games, so you need to wait for all of that crowd to pass before you can get a good result.

As for people not liking the line up
you can blame you're fellow gamers. And they are fully aware that this goes no deeper than being a popularity contest.

I get where your coming from but even taking Jak as an example, that sold alot, regardless of which iteration it was. On top of that it had a quality gaming experience for both hardcore and casual gamers. I would class that as at least worthy of being up there.

Thought it was actually what you thought what the game of the decade was. lol... The World Ends With You or Kingdom Hearts 1 btw.

Anyway, I agree with Gamefaqs being at least partially a popularity contest. I've been to the site many times and also, to point out from above, the most seen faq's are for the hardest games, yes, there are reviews also, but it's also the hardest and most popular. To be honest, I love KH and several other games, but several haven't held a candle to the 90's games. I know I'm going to get flamed for this, but give me a SNES rpg game compared to the new games in the last 10 years. There have been a few, but none have held a candle to Legend of Zelda in the 90's before Windwaker and other games that held my interest for only a few weeks compared to me fighting through dungeons for months.

But that's my Point of View, take it or leave it.

I heard about this, but I haven't checked it out.

I think it's a tie between KH/RE4/GoW1 Those games really stand out for me as some of my favorites ever.

I don't think there's any possible way to choose a "Game of the Decade" when you just pool them all together like that. That's like trying to decide upon a Movie of the Decade but putting Action films in with Indie flicks. They're totally different genres and just cannot be compared.

I'd like to see "RPG of the Decade," "FPS of the Decade," etc etc.

Regardless, I'm pulling for either Kingdom Hearts (obviously) or KOTOR.

The World Ends With You, KOTOR, RE4, KH (Of course XD) and...blah, FFX, if it counts. I forgot when it was released.

It was a RPG Game of the Decade, it'll be a tie between TWEWY and KHI. TWEWY was a amazing game.
I don't really like FPS's, but RE4 would take the award for that, hands down. If RE4 counts as a FPS. It's been a while since I played it.

RE4 isn't a First-Person Shooter. So it could never possibly win some kind of award for it unless the people giving the awards didn't know their gamer terms. B|

Anyways, back on topic...I don't see how CoD4 could possibly beat Prince of Persia. I know their different genres but honestly, the lack of taste disturbs me. Oh well, it's only a popularity contest and nothing more. It probably would've been more interesting if there wasn't a "Game of the Decade" title and instead was spread out into titles like "Best RPG" and such. Then again, that wouldn't make things any better because then it would just be even more popularity contests. <<

It failed as soon as Cave Story didn't get on the poll.

Yes, I'm bitter. Now get off my lawn.

After reading all the people talking about how their favorite games aren't on there I'm trying to think of how long the polls would be up to try and get every game of that decade in there.

And also add in the critic inspection because we want this to be more than a popularity contest.

EDIT: I just checked today and somehow KH beat out Halo 2 and Castlevania. Although if both games win the next round then they are forced to verse each-other.

In the end it'll be over which game got more hype than the other. Lol. I mean there's almost no way you could call it anything more than a popularity contest. More than likely any game like Halo 2 will be beat out by an RPG of almost any sort.(excluding paper Mario lol). But really though; in the end it'll be something noone expects to win really.

It's Kingdom Hearts vs Kingdom Hearts II and as of this post it's:

    Kingdom Hearts - 4200
    Kingdom Hearts II - 4212
