No Thanks Gallery

I was just thinking we could have one giant section of the site where people could upload pics in just one big section at the top where "Forum, Cutscene Archive, etc" are. People could make titles and make all of the images public instead of having to go to a persons profile to see their album.

It sounds like a good idea to me, and I've even seen it before on some sites.

I probably wouldn't even use it though =/

 

Which is why I think it would be a nice addition to KHV. Other sites have it, so why don't we?

It would be so easy to spam it though, and it would be hard to moderate it.

Let's say a bunch of trolls put pictures that were really inappropriate, and then no staffies were on? I mean, the damage would be done, and it's for all of the public of khv D:

True...but what would be the point of a gallery?

Like is this a gallery for avatars?

Uhm, other sites have lots of things we don't, and we have stuff that they don't :D

If all sites were the same it would be dull as hell.

We did use to have something like what you are suggesting, but it was dead and never used, I don't see a need for it and I don't think it is warranted. It would be a nice little addition but I think it would go to waste in all honesty.

Explain a bit more what you want please, it sounds like you want something similar to a giant public album?

 

That's essentially it. I just think it would be a nice addition to the site. Nothing major, but just something cool to have. I also thought of this when someone necrobumped a thread that had a link to that and thought we might as well bring that back, but have it so we can add pictures other than KH related stuff.

 

Were it something that was possible and that pictures could be posted to be approved so that nothing gets up there that's inappropriate, I'd say sure. Could be fun.

And staff couldnt "edit" the pictures without removing them or gallery, unless they found a way to redo/repost the pictures efficiently.

I think that staff should be able to approve a picture before its posted. If that can be done, I think it would be a bit more helpful.

 

Minus the coders, reporters, and the two non-directly involved admins, that would leave 12 staff members to approve the pictures for a forum with 35k+ members where around 1k+ are quite active. And because there are only about half the staff on at a given time, that would mean 6 staff members would have to approve the photos for around 50-100+ members that are on at any given time and could be putting in who knows how many pictures. About 4 of those staff members would be constantly surveying their sections while 2 of them would be pruning the threads that they get PMs about to close or lock or move. That all would be on top of the video portal, which I know keeps certain staff members quite busy since there is quite a large amounts of uploads that have to be tended too. Adding a public gallery where staff would have to approve pictures would keep 4chaners and trolls out, but would put quite a load on staff members that are already quite busy. If a gallery was to be made, you would have to think of one that would be more secure without making too much strain for the rest of the staff. Possibly a gallery thats only accessible to people of certain posts/rep amounts?

 

Just summarized your post for ya. Maybe make it premiums only? Idk, I'm not 100% on this. It could get quite unorganized, having to dig through thousands of crappy and/or irrelavent pictures for the one or two that you want. No offense to anyone on here.

 

Well premium only would be pointless since he's suggesting a public gallery for people of the site to upload pictures. Plus it would just be another reason for people to post/rep whore their way up to premium.

I meant that only premiums could POST the pictures. But like I said, I'm not exactly a fan of this idea. It has merit, and it's interesting, but it might not be feasible.

 

Maybe if you reached a goal in rep and/or posts, but that might make people start spaming or asking for rep. What if you had to be a member for a certain amount of time?
