Jacklyn smiled softly at Kayta and began to walk with her to the place where the elevator was hidden. "My name is Jacklyn. Or you can call me Jackie. The city we're going to is underground... It's a sanctuary, a safe haven from the ghouls. They have no idea about it." This was suppose to be Elizabeth's and Kathrine's job, not hers Jacklyn thought in the back of her mind. She must have been doing alright though, the girl was following her. Instead of going straight to the one Kyle and the others had gone to, Jacklyn led Kayta into a building, everything still intact. There were old musty books laying around, forgotten and abused. This use to be the public library, but of course, it hadn't been touched in years.

The woman walked with Kayta, keeping alert just in case something lurked behind the bookshelves. She walked up to one that was pressed against the wall and reached up to one of the books that had a blue cover on it which had the title "Adam-ondi-omen", a biblical reference to the garden where Adam and Eve resided before Eve... 'Yeah, just a bunch of Biblical junk,' she thought as the book shelf opened with a creak, revealing a passageway lit by torches.

"This is one of the many ways to get there," Jacklyn said, looking over at Kayta. "This is actually my favorite way to go, and I don't show it to just about anyone." She smirked and then heard something pattering on the roof. Jacklyn picked up the sound right away and glanced over at one of the windows. The rain was starting to stream down already, the clouds though... It wasn't her imagination after all, they were in fact a deep red. Thank goodness they were inside.

She looked over to Kayta once again, waiting on her. "Shall we go?"

She felt Shino's hand on top of her head, which in turn brought her out of the memory lapse. She turned her head to look up at Shino where she was laying, her eyes searching his behind his glasses. They were okay, there was no reason to feel like this.

    Skye couldn't help it though.

She forced herself to listen to Shino's words. The task was easy, she was awesome.

"I just gave a diagnosis," Skye said softly, hugging the pillow close to her still.

Kiki nodded her head to the stranger's offer, and shakily brought her hand up and held it. With his help, she laid down on the floor, meanwhile going into a brief coughing fit and then began wheezing afterwards. How much longer she could hold on, she didn't know. She didn't want to die out here though, not with this pain not out on the Surface. Alice needed her, everyone needed her and now was not the time to let them down.

She found relief when she laid against the cool concrete floor, not putting so much strain on her poor broken legs. They were already begin to swell, and Kiki knew that she needed to be treated, now.

'Kyle...' She reached out to the mechanic, the researcher, the inventor, her friend, and then felt them connect for a brief moment. She felt him trying to speak to her, but she only hushed him and began to draw a map from where they had come from and where they were at now. She knew that her hero probably couldn't take her all the way to the city. She had to get some help, and fast.

Kyle shook his head, knowing what Alice was thinking. "No Alice, that won't work. Kiki wouldn't allow it anyways-"

    'Kyle...'

'Kiki?' But Kiki didn't say anything back. Instead, he was receiving an image in his mind, a map being sketched out for him. It was places he never seen before, but he knew this was vital. Not wasting another minute, Kyle stood up from where he was kneeling in front of Alice and jogged over to his computer. Going as quick as he could, he began to draw out the same map that Kiki was giving to him, trying to keep up with the scout's mental image. Suddenly, the computer began to beep, making Kyle look up from his work. The computer had matched an area that Kiki had drawn out for him, a little faint dot on the screen was blinking.

"Kiki... that's Kiki's comlink signal." Kyle grinned, feeling a tremendous relief wash over him but at the same time felt uneasy. Kiki suddenly broke her connection with him. "Alice! We found Kiki!"

'Alice... I'm okay... Someone's here with me...' The voice in Alice's head was weak, loosing connection with her friend. The connection tried to hold onto Alice as long as possible as Kiki sent a mental hug to her friend. Then the connection began to fade at an agonizing, slow pace.

    Alice

Alice hung her head when he idea was shot down, though she knew that was coming. But at least at that moment Kyle said Kiki's name. Instantly Alice smiled and looked back towards at Kyle. "Where?"

Suddenly Kiki started to speak to her. She was okay, someone had saved her. That caused a giant wave of relief to wash over Alice. No stupid stunts needed to be pulled and her friend would soon return to her. The good emotions she felt now was enough to calm the demonic pulses and her returned to normal. But...the connection was fading. Wait Kiki. Just make sure to get back here in one piece. You're going to have to make me dinner for making me worry like this! She joked, giving her friend something to look forward to.

    Shino

Shino frowned when Skye didn't react how he had hoped. He really was no good at these things.

"Come on. I mean..." He took his hand back, being on who somewhat spoke with his hands. "You were completely calm, least enough so to do the job quickly. Then you were the first to see the Ghouls near by. They could of attacked us if you hadn't noticed them."

[IMG]At first, Kayta was more than a little suspicious. An underground city, safe from the ghouls? That sounded a little too good to be true. But when Jacklyn opened the secret passage in the library, Kayta put aside her doubts and decided to follow Jacklyn. "Sure," she said. "I'm game." What was the worst that could happen anyway? Well, Jacklyn could turn out to be some freak murderer and I'll never see daylight again. She thought to herself. But she couldn't really see that happening. Jacklyn seemed to be a fairly nice person. Besides, she glanced out the window and it was raining, and what's more, the rain was coming out of red clouds. That didn't look like it meant anything good. She might as well go into this underground city.

Kayate sighed a bit, "I suppose telling you my name won't hurt..." he said, feeling someone should get at least a name from a savior, "My name is Kayate. Kayate Kotain. And...I'm afraid I've got no supplies to treat your injuries with...Is there anything at all I can do?" he questioned her, feeling around his clothes for something that he could treat her with.

"And the rain, shall we go ahead and try to venture closer to the City? Or, I can simply allow you to rest." concern drifted across his eyes, for the first time in a long time. Tch...I can't go and get attached to someone...It'll only end in misery...

River (I don't have a picture, forgive me...)

River woke up in his bed, looking around his room, trying to figure out where he was.
'Ah. Right. Underground city.' He reminded himself. 'How long have I been asleep? Lets see...I think I went to sleep at...Wait, that's ATLEAST a few days ahead of yesterda-' He had just realised that he had been asleep for around 2 or so days. 'When are the day long blackouts gonna stop? It's starting to get annoying...' River thought to himself.

He had decided to go check things out, seeing as whenever he went unconscious, something really, really important happens, or a really dangerous ghoul appears. That kind of stuff.
'Okay then, I better get going. Who knows what the hell happened...'

As soon as she had the word from Kayta, Jacklyn led her through a series of tunnels and secret passage ways, explaining to her that they needed to keep this place a secret and not to take this way unless she had a guide. She could be lost, or worse, fall in a set trap for the ghouls.

Then, they came to a tunnel that had a light at the end of it. Jacklyn smiled, knowing what was up ahead of her as she led the other girl along. "And this," she said, stepping into the light to a railing that blocked off a hundred foot drop, "is the Underground City. Our sanctuary from the surface." From this place, one could see everything; the science labs, the different shaped houses, the shopping district, basically everything that was visible to them.

Skye just stared at him for a moment, listening to all he had to say. She was silent, as if soaking it all in. The emotional and mental lapse were beginning to fade, but it still lingered there; however, she made herself get up in a sitting position, hugging the pillow close to her.

She could tell Shino was worried about her as she listened. Slowly, Skye smiled softly. "Thank you, Shino..."

Kayate," Kiki breathed out, forcing a smile despite the pain. "Good to meet you... And I was going to call you... Mr. Hero." She chuckled and then winced, closing her eyes tightly. "Much better... than... my... name..." She meant the one she gave Kayate, but she was too weak to say anything more. Her body shuddered as she laid there, listening to the rain falling against the roof. She opened her eyes gradually, her vision blurred from the pain and fever she was undergoing.

She looked to Kayate's face, but she couldn't see his eyes. Just the blurred outlines of them. "Just... stay with me," Kiki whispered, her breath being short and quick. She knew that if they moved again, she would go further into shock. It sounded like help was on the way, as she heard Kyle's thoughts of their GPS coordinations. "They're coming to us..." Her eyes closed and she turned her head upward, concentrating on her breathing. She had to live, she had to make it back to Alice.

Just then, she heard Alice's thoughts in her head. She couldn't help but to smile softly as she listened, feeling tears of happiness sting behind her closed eyes and a want for being back with her friend drifted in her heart. 'Do you want instant coffee.... or hot chocolate with that....?' Kiki giggled softly in Alice's mind, trying to keep her friend in the knowledge that she would be okay, but she had to tell her a little of the situation. 'Hurry Alice... I don't how long me and... Kayate... can last out here... Make sure..... to bring.... a medic.... or two.... with.....' Kiki was having trouble keeping the connection up with Alice. If she wasn't hurt, she would be able to go longer and just get a headache, but this was draining her energy to the very core. She still tried to hang onto Alice, reaching out to her through mind so as not to go under in the mental waves of darkness. Being in a state like this was starting to scare her, make her realize how short of a time she had to be here in this moment. 'Alice.....'

Right there! On the map!" Kyle quickly logged it in to his GPS on his arm, and then turned to Alice, striding over to her after snatching some packages from a bookshelf he passed. "Put the raincoat on," he said, tossing it to Alice, knowing already that she wanted to come and wouldn't allow Kyle to leave her here. "I don't know if it'll help in this kind of rain, but it's worth a try. We'll also need medics, just in case." It was as if he heard Kiki's thoughts to Alice, but he didn't. He stripped the raincoat out of the package and pulled it over his gear, along with a rainproof glove he made for his mechanical hand so it wouldn't get wet or rusted in this weather.

He opened his large door to his lab that went to the outside world and looked back at Alice. "Are you coming?" he asked with a smile.

[IMG]While Jacklyn had been leading the way to the city, Kayta had remained quiet, listening to Jacklyns explanations. But when they reached the balcony and Kayta saw all the buildings and roads, she she let out a low gasp in surprise. The place was huge! She took a quick count of the buildings she could see and was impressed. These people sure know how to pick a hideout. She thought. "How long has this city been here?" she asked, turning back to Jacklyn.

Kayate glanced up in surprise, eyes wide, "How...Help is coming? I can't... I'm no...Hero...How did you get help...From all the way over here?' he continued to ramble on a bit, before abruptly, "I apologize. You don't need to answer any of my questions, I can see that you need the rest. I must thank you, nearly calling me Mr. Hero, it's...Flattering, really." he half muttered, his head hung down. "I hope your help comes soon. I don't believe you can last too much longer here. I would like a name from you sometime, if you can muster it." he stood up, walking over to the door of the shack they took shelter in, he lightly turned the handle, creaking the door slightly open, he stuck his head out of the door, glancing around their postion, with a glance up, a gasp escaped his lips at the sight of the red clouds, quickly pulling himself in. "The...The clouds are red..." he sighed to the girl.

    River-

River had been wondering around the city for a while, and it was awfully...Quiet, to say the least.
"Where is everybody?" He thought out loud, then realising that, well, they were probably on a mission.
'May as well head up to ground level. Make up for lost time, figure out where the hell everyone is.'

'Huh. Someone must've gone up recently...' He had thought. He had started going up, and tipped his claws with the poison he usually carry's around, and prepared his invisibility. 'Can never be too careful...' And as he neared the top, he got the feeling he might regret waking up again.

    Shino

Shino nodded, looking down for a moment. He was thanked, yet he felt as if he hadn't helped at all. So in hopes of actually comforting her he leaned in and wrapped his arms around her in a hug. "I'm sorry I'm not good at this..." He muttered.

Laughing slightly at his own words he shook his head. "At least I try though, right?"

    Alice

"Yeah...going to really need a medic or two." Alice agreed as she put on the coat and headed towards the door.

She was trying to keep in contact with Kiki, but as she had to use some demon energy just to keep moving, it was too risky. Not to mention that Kiki had pretty much already faded as well.

"Of course I'm coming." With a small grin she exited Kyle's house and started for the nearest elevator. "Hm, maybe we should invite some other people. Only if we run into them on the way though. No time to spare."

River wondered around this barren waste land, that for some reason seemed different. He couldn't put his finger on it, but there was definitely something wrong. Much more wrong than it usually is. But everything looked the same. There was a pretty normal amount of ghouls, and despite some close calls, they weren't too hard to kill. He just shrugged it off, and decided to just go invisible for a bit and wonder around. See if he could find anyone, re-familiarize himself with the area. But he couldn't find anybody, only a few dead body's of ghouls. So he had climbed up a tree and stopped for a second, and looked for any sign of life that wasn't in a glowing purple orb attached to his pants.
"I think...Is it? It would have to be. I think, anyways..." He said to himself, and hopped of a long branch onto a nearly broken roof, careful not to fall through. The assassin repeated this process until he ran out of roofs, and he was close enough to get a good look.
"That looks like a human. And that looks like a lot of ghouls. Then again, I do need a bit of a wake up, so what the heck..." And with that, he jumped down from his perch and aimed for the nearest ghoul.

Not sure," Jacklyn replied, keeping her eyes on the city as she took in old memories and feelings in once more. "I was brought here a long time ago myself..." Deciding that this probably wasn't the best idea bringing up the past, Jacklyn found herself turning away from the city and focused her attention on Kayta. "You know, there's two other kids just like you who we've found just yesterday. Would you like to meet them?" This would be a great icebreaker activity, or so that's what Jacklyn thought. The girl needed a place to stay, why not introduce her to the other kids at the apartment? There was still room for more in there, and maybe Kayta would make new friends.

It wasn't the girl's fault, it was Jacklyn's own reclusive behavior that was to blame. She didn't want to get attached to Kayta, attachments slowed her down and caused people to get hurt in the past. She couldn't afford to let this happen again.

She suddenly stood on her feet, meeting Shino midway in the hug. She wrapped her arms tightly around him and buried her head in his jacket, just as a scared little sister of a big brother would do. "Thank you, Shino," she whispered once again, her voice muffled in his chest. She rested her head to the side, taking in a fresh breath of air, squeezing her eyes shut as she listened to Shino's heartbeat against her ear. That was all she needed to hear; this was all she needed right now. "Thank you..."

Suddenly, her tears broke out freely as she took in rapid breaths of air, her shoulders shaking. She hated the nightmare she had last night, and the memories that seemed to plague her mind during these times. She refused to let go of Shino to wipe away her tears and just rubbed one eye against her shoulder. Skye laughed through her tears, trying to stop her nose from dripping. "Sorry, Shino. I know this scares you when I get like this," Skye said, her voice cracking and sounding really drained. She laid her head against his chest again, sighing out in attempt to control her shaky breaths. Shino had done so much for her, and she felt bad acting this way in front of him.

Kiki," she wheezed out, trying to keep a smile on her face for Kayate. "That's.... my name....." They were coming, she knew they were. They would be here soon to get them. Kiki whimpered, moving her head to the side as she tried to lay stay as possible. Her whole body was starting to tingle as if it was falling asleep, and the prickling and throbbing pain in her legs wasn't helping much either. She had nothing to fear though, Kayate would be with her...

It had been about an hour since they left the city to look for Kiki. Kyle was leading the way with his map he received from Kiki before her mental connection faded out on him. Alice did say that she was still in contact with Kiki, but it was getting worse.

Kyle kept his gun loaded and ready as he jogged down the streets to their destination, two medics were following close to him and Alice, ready to jump into action. They were lucky enough to have run into them before the medics left to do a sweep of the Surface for any injured or dead victims of the ghouls and the dangers of the Surface. They were equipped and ready for anything that they could run into.

Coming to a stop, Kyle panted as he looked down at his digital map. The raincoats had protected them so far, but the rain was starting to lighten up now. A very good sign that getting Kiki and her friend back to the city would be so much easier. Not really focusing on that at the moment, Kyle turned in place, looking up at a large, abandon building. The door was slightly ajar, and his GPS was pointing right at it. "She's there," he pointed, looking over his shoulders at the others and Alice.

( I'm just assuming Maka's little time-skip is after Kayate has time to say something else to Kiki, so if a small error is made here, please, say so. )

"Kiki..." Kayate muttered the name under his breath, as if it was something quite remarkable and important, "It's a lovely name, Kiki." he said to her, sliding down the wall, next to where her head was placed in her lying position.
"Y'know, we could go now, at any time. I can carry you again..." he muttered, brushing a bit of hair from her face. Something he'd never really do.

After a bit of a simple rest, Kayate glances around. "I hear something. Kiki."
A quick analysis of the sound ran through his mind; Too soft to be a Ghoul. Too loud to be a predator of some sort. Help has arrived. Too late for any more time together, it's a shame... I think...
"Kiki, I believe your help is here. I gravely apologize, I will not be with you anymore. You may see some signs of me. G'bye!" he whispers softly to her, a bit of a smile on his face, as his body begins to seemingly fade from existence. "Good luck." his voice emits from the empty-looking space next to Kiki, as he stands from his position and begins to stand a bit aside, waiting for the saviors.

[IMG]As soon as Jacklyn mentioned other kids, Kayta drew back into herself. She didn't need other people. She could take care of herself just fine, she'd been doing it for so long now. Besides, why should she go "make friends" with other kids? It's not like they had ever done anything for her. But what she found herself saying to Jacklyn was something else entirely. "Sure," she muttered, staring down at her shoes. What was wrong with her? She didn't want to go meet people! And yet, she was going to. Oh well, she thought. I guess I could give these kids a chance or something.

    Alice

Once the building which Kiki was in came into view, Alice disregarded all safety measures and ran toward it. It didn't matter that she was nearly out of breath and very weak now, she wanted to save her friend. So she ran to the door and threw it open, rushing to Kiki's side the moment she saw her. "Kiki!"

If it were not for the medics needing to get to Kiki to treat her Alice would have stayed at her side, but alas she had to move out of the way. "Can you hear me? Are you okay?" Almost crying she asked these questions, though extremely relieved to have made it in what seemed to be in time.

Jacklyn saw Kayta's uncertainty and offered a rare smile to the girl. "I think they'll like to meet you. Come on."

Jacklyn led the way through the city, walking around little shops of odds and ends others had made in attempts to go back to the old ways. She looked over her shoulder ever so often to make sure Kayta was following her and then eventually stumbled across the humble apartment where they found those from the Surface and brought here to try to start a new life in a safe environment. She climbed the stairs with Kayta until she reached the fourth floor and then the fifth door down the hallway. Jacklyn then knocked on the door and stood back, waiting patiently. "We found them yesterday," Jacklyn explained, "just as I found you. It's a boy and a girl, Shino and Skye. I believe Shino is around your age."

Wait," Kiki called out weakly to Kayate, trying to stretch a hand out to him, but it was too late and he was gone. Her hand fell to the ground, loosing all of its strength to hold itself up and she turned her head to the side, coughing pathetically, blood at the corner of her mouth.

    "Kiki!"

Kiki moaned, recognizing the voice as she fought to open her eyes once more to see if she was dreaming or not. "Alice...?"

Soon, shadows fell over Kiki and they began to move about her, feeling her pulse, poking at her, making sure she was alright. She winced and dug her nails in her palm when they touched her legs and around her rib cage, but those were the only two vital areas. She was also having a hard time keeping her breath normal, shivering from the tingling sensation and from the pain she thought she had grown use to over the last few hours.

"Her legs are broken," one of the medics commented.

"Teh, more like shattered," the older one of the two muttered under his breath, his voice grave. "I think she also has some internal bleeding. This is going to be tricky... Alright, on the count of three, we're going to slip the stretcher under her. Ready? One, two, three."

It was as if she was undergoing the same torture she had to go through when she was with Mother. She heard Alice's voice, but couldn't respond to it. She gritted her teeth as she was moved, trying so hard not to scream out, but almost failing. As soon as she was moved into place on the stretcher, she felt gentle hands being placed on either side of her head to try to stable her and soothe her. She felt so pathetic as she shuddered and whimpered, feeling so helpless and in great pain.

"It's okay, Sweetie. We're taking you home soon. You'll be alright."

"Alice..." It came out as a whisper, and then Kiki couldn't hold it back any longer. Tears began to roll down her cheeks as the medics gently strapped her into place on the stretcher and then slipped a little oxygen mask over her nose and mouth to try to stable her breathing. The older medic then placed a blanket over Kiki, trying to bring her body temperature up again since it was low and he also knew that it gave the patient some sort of magical comfort.

Kyle stood back by the door, keeping his pistol drawn and ready. He didn't watch Kiki being moved from the floor to the stretcher- he couldn't see it. He'd knew he'd be mad and yelling at the medics if he allowed himself to look and so he kept watch. Nothing was moving about, and the rain had let up. But with rain, he knew worms would be creeping out soon. They would have to be very careful.

    Shino

Shino held her tightly. He was weak and pretty much useless. Never had he done much to help out the group and he often found himself relying on the others more than anything. But above all else all he wanted to do was protect her, seeing her as the little sister he never had. The family he had lsot. Perhaps it was selfish of him in that light, that perhaps he felt so strongly about protecting her to make up for being unable to do anything with his real family. But he just really wished to do so, at any cost.

He opened his mouth to say something but before he could find the words he heard footsteps approaching the door. "Sorry..." He muttered as he let go and moved to answer the door, promising himself to make up for so rudely leaving Skye's side when she needed him most at a later point.

Upon opening the door he saw Jacklyn near by with another girl following close behind. He gave a slight wave but said nothing as he waited for them to get closer.

    Alice

It was almost as if Alice felt Kiki's pain. The dread was in her eyes as she watched the two medics move her and even she winced. Her head then perked up at the sound of Kiki saying her name.

"It's okay, I'll be close by the entire way back. But we got to hurry... I'm sorry but it'll hurt. But once we get back to the city they'll fix you up good as new and we can eat together once more."

She could hear the rain stopping for that she was grateful. And by the time she got to her feet and headed to the door it had stopped completely. Alice looked back to the medics, who had also gotten up and moved to the door. "Ready?" she asked them as she swung her arms, blades popping out on either one.

    [IMG]~Kayta~
[IMG]Kayta stopped when the boy opened the door. She figured she was close enough, she didn't need to get any closer. She looked him over, he was an average looking boy, he had kind of blonde hair and glasses that framed his purple eyes. Behind him, through the door, she saw a girl, looking like she was sick or something. Or like she had been crying. Either way, Kayta decided she wasn't going to like either of them, just because. Scowling, she looked down at the ground and put her hands in her pockets, almost as if she were saying go ahead and try to talk to me, I dare you. In her pocket, she felt the rough edges of a rock, it was a pendant that had belonged to her brother, a bit of turqoise on a string. Turqoise was supposed to bring you luck. Not like it works, she thought. He's not here anymore, is he?
