So, I got this idea for a board for those who speak foreign languages. I think it could be a neat little way for people who share a common language to communicate and also to help garner more members from foreign countries, since KHV is mostly Europe, North America, and Australia. Generally, English speaking countries. And we could move beyond those borders with this board so others can chat about the games, etc. So, we could have people from Japan, Russia, South Africa, etc. all disscussing games and enjoying themselves.

    Here's how it's gonna work:
We have a single thread devoted to a language started up by a member that speaks the language. For example, Tootsie could start a Spanish-speaking thread. Now, this thread will be the only Spanish-speaking thread. If any more are made, it should be locked/deleted because it takes up space. It will last until the maximum amount of posts are posted. At that point, it is locked and a new one will be made.
Since the threads are designed to speak the language, and not a specific topic, the direction of a thread will move from one subject to the next, much like a real conversation. Therefore, posts should not count, because it may or may not be something constructive and posts can be spam zone type posts, or discussion type posts, depending on what the people are talking about.
Those who are learning the language could also post in the boards to practice their skills at reading and writing, but not for homework help with their language course.

Let me know what you guys think. Thanks for reading this.

This has been already suggested but nothing happened. I myself think it's a great idea because there's quite a few people here who speak spanish and it would be lovely if we could get them all together in an official thread and speak in spanish.

    I approve.

Seems like a foreign language version of the spam zone. Which technically, you could just make that thread in the regular spam zone to speak other languages. Because either way, there really isnt a way to force people to speak a certain language in this new area. And there's many gaming forums specifically made with one language in mind. But if this did work, it'd be pretty nice for all the foreign language speakers out there. I personally would like it since I tend to forget alot of words in english.

I like the level of diversity this suggestion is trying to bring in...but how do you moderate a language that you can't speak / how do you know if there are flame wars going on and such. It would require someone who can handle a multitude of languages and I don't think that it is physically do able. I like the idea though, especially if someone is taking a language class in school and wants a bit of practice using the language.

Google Translator isn't the most accurate piece of equipment in the world, trust me.

It definitely is not. It has limited use in finding out words by themselves, but putting entire sentences in there most likely won't get you anything coherent.

That's partly why I want the board in the first place. So people don't use the translator, but try to rely un their own skills to understand what others are saying, but that isn't the main reason.

Good idea, but as others said, it would be hard to moderate. The staff would have to either learn the languages, hire someone who knows the languages, or rely on reports from people who do know the language.

Which leads me to another point.

Whoever wishes to make a thread for a language needs to approach an admin for permission to make it and then that person will need to translate any posts that are problematic.

However, that tactic is very iffy and has many, many flaws. The member may lie about what the post actually says simply because they don't like a member and they want that person in trouble. Members aren't trustworthy. But neither are staff, you've (collectively) seen the B.S. that some staff has done in the past. So maybe the members should be allowed to to so.

But it's also like a recipe. You follow the recipe to cook to food. If it doesn't work out, you add some ingredients, take others away, etc. You just have to try it and whatever doesn't "taste right" is changed. So we could start up the board, with the rules as I explained. If something isn't right, then we change it. It's as simple as that.

If it sounds like I'm talking out the dilemna, I'm not. I'm making several points from different sides to show what the options are. Because we're going to have to decide at some point and I'd really rather not have this idea just be locked, drop several pages down, then forgotten like most suggestions.

eh...its seems like a great idea and I'd be happy if it worked out, but I can only imagine three-five really popular threads and like a bunch of other made ones that get 1-2 posts because barely anyone speaks the language, or would much rather post in the actual spamzone. In which case, why have an entire forum section if there will be only three-five threads in it?

Not only that but if it does end up being added, who says it won't turn out like the Premium spamzone? It exists and it could possibly/potentially be really fun, but no one posts there. People just like the normal spamzone better.

This sounds actually like a good idea, but as said before it would be extremely hard to moderate, but nice idea. I would say yes to it, if it weren't for the moderating problem.

I like the idea... though I have not idea how active it would be. I mean I'm from Japan, but I know English almost as well as Japanese. xD

But the decision isn't up to me, it would be up to the admins. ^^

The idea of it is to create a more active website by bringing in more members from foreign countries. I do realize that it won't be the most active board on the site when it starts off, but with time and effort, it can become just as actve as the other boards around here.
