Go see it. Like, right now.

It's every bit as good as Monsters Incorporated, if not maybe better. I couldn't have been happier with it, it's everything a prequel should be. It does the original characters/world absolute justice. Top tier Pixar

(unless you didn't like Monsters Inc, in which case wtf is wrong with you)

It was DEFINITELY better than Monsters Inc. No contest.

I disagree that it's better than Monsters, Inc. Boo cannot be replaced. Her role in the film was so pivotal, and she didn't even have that many (comprehensible) lines. I also found the humor to be slightly better in that film.

Still, Monsters University is really damn good.

Well, I didn't like Monster's Inc. Would Monster's University do anything for me?

I don't want to see it. Because Mike's whole goal in the movie his ENTIRE reason for being there is to be a scarer which spoiler alert we know doesn't happen because he's not one in Monsters Inc. which means his only goal MUST fail.

He busts his rear and studies harder than anyone else and he gets nothing for it because he's not like Sully and wasn't born to be one.

In hindsight it's quite sad and depressing when you think about it.

That's the thing about Disney movies, and especially Pixar's: you can usually figure out how the plot's going to play out (if not...really?) But that doesn't mean that they can be excellently written, which Monsters University is. I knew Mike wasn't going to be a scarer the whole time, and while that may have taken some tension out of the plot, seeing how he and Sully, got to where they are in Monsters, Inc. was definitely worth seeing it.

Just saw it. Definitely on par with Monsters Inc. in my opinion.

I haven't seen it, but I sometimes wonder if I should or not. i won't say I hated Monsters inc. but at the same time I wasn't a fan of it, just because I find it really hard to get into some of the older Pixar movies now. Yes, I did just call Monsters Inc old, but considering it came out more than a decade ago (holy crap), I think that's fair game.

Also, how do you get any better than Randel trying to get rid of them/kill them? I found that pretty amusing actually, but I don't see anything reaching like that in Monsters University

I HIGHLY doubt it to be honest.
A huge part of Monsters Inc was the fact that every single character was being fed a huge lie that in order to supply energy for thier world they had to embark on a seemingly dangerous journey into the bedrooms of poisonous children and that this job involved feeding on the fear of said children. It was a risky job that many felt you could be killed for. Then of course with the introduction of Boo we learn that there's more to they mystery that were being told and that somethings going on.

I feel that without that Monsters U comes off as being pretty boring. I'm sure it has it's funny moments but I couldn't possibly sit through 2 hours of a bunch of people doing something that I know is.
    1. A complete ruse
    2. Worthless since they're gonna find out a safer and more efficient energy source anyway

The thing is though is that it's about something entirely different. The intent and objective is not the same as Inc. It's an appropriate prequel to Inc, it sets up everything that needs to be set up, and lays a clear foundation for what will be the status quo in that movie. However the thematic stuff in U is completely different from Inc. Inc is about truth, while U is about self, and both movies accomplish these goals outstandingly. When I say U may be better than Inc, that's of course my opinion, but also looking at what the movie is about, I think it accomplishes what it was trying to do every so slightly better than Inc, and is a far more relatable movie than Inc. I understand what you're saying about their entire notion of how the world works being a complete lie making this movie less enjoyable, but this movie doesn't focus on that in a way that would make it a problem. Not once in the movie did I find myself thinking, "well who the h cares this is all lies anyway." Unless you just cannot get past that at all and not enjoy what the movie is about, I highly doubt it would be a problem for you if you haven't seen the movie. Though if you have seen the movie and just didn't like it as much nvm whatever.

tl;dr I love it I think it's great and it doesn't feel like a retread of Inc at all

It was a good film. I notice Pixar has really taken an interest in sequels lately. As to compare it Monster's inc, I think it really depends on wht you favor. The first film had a lot of heart which was what Pixar was always known for. My only complaint is that it mucked up the continuity for me a bit saying that they met in college. In the first film, I recall Mike saying to Sully; "You've been jealous of my good looks since the fourth grade." But that's just a minor annoyance to an otherwise well done film.

They may have seen each other at that time, but seeing someone isn't quite the same as meeting each other.

Though I honestly can't remember if that's when they first meet or not.

It's been years since I've seen Inc so I didn't notice that, but the one thing that did annoy me was how the abominable snowman was their supervisor at one of their jobs. What? Am I forgetting something major, or is that just a wink-wink-nudge-nudge cameo went horribly wrong? Was there some line in Inc about how they had already known him or something? Because I don't remember that

U treats it like these two have never met before, and in the case of being jealous you would have to know someone more than just knowing they exist. But it's not really a big deal, Pixar obviously couldn't have known twelve years ago that they would be making this movie.

Knowing the end isn't all the fun, sometimes knowing what will happen makes the plot better, like BBS we knew the cruel fate of the trio even though it went as expected knowing how it got there was a fine ride...

It's not the only exemple in animes, mangas , movies and other medias I found that knowing the tragic fate before hand doesnt spoil the surprise, it can even get better than the "present plot" (even by knowing that anything can happen).

If you are bleach readers probably felt that "Turn back the pendulum" was better than the hole arrancar arc..

That being said, I loved monster university, I don't usually like spin-offs especially because Pixar has so little titles that they should make new ones and not rely on the previous brands, but it was so good that I overlooked it.

Okay, beat with me since I'm a bit drunk atm, but Mike knew he was banished in Inc or something. I know he mentioned "Banishment, yadda yadda, abominable snowman"
