Kind of glad I decided to get an XBOX 369 now rather than the WiiU. Really only wanted it for the next Super Smash Bros. Will wait the needed 3 years then pick one up.

It should have been part of the console. You don't have the selling points of your console be part of a giant Day One download. People expect them to come packaged.

Sadly, Nintendo had only three choices: Either ship the Wii U on 11/18 with terrible online functionality that would be patched December 2012/Q1 2013, fix online and ship the Wii U in 2013, or patch it all up on launch day while they're manufacturing the Wii U. Sadly, all will result with negative results: Critics will bash the bad online functionality until it's fixed and say they should've fixed it day one, they won't sell as much due to PS4 and 720 arriving earlier, or this thread would be made, respectively.

You know that the day-one Wii U update is a pretty big and it takes quite a bit of time to download, from one hour to even more depending on your internet connection. You might have also heard that it's around 5 gigs worth of data. Thanks to Nintendo Gamer, there is evidence that this is not true. Check out this data usage image below, which represents the amount of data transfer roughly halfway through the download process. (Look at 11/18 on the chart)

5GB? More like 1 GB. Still pretty big, though.

Guess everybody was freaking out over nothing. People sure do like making up rumors, no matter the price.

When you got only 8 g, 1 is too much, the ps3 does updates almost every week, imagine if nintendo ketp this pace... in no time the people would out of space!
I also think that 8G for a console is low, nowdays 8 g is good for a handled.

Well, it was still a mistake for Nintendo to make the entire online aspect a download. You're right, it is low, but they are trying to keep costs down also.

They could at least do like the ps3 that allows you to download it in the pc then install it on the console, or maybe just don't install as it download so it doesnt brick.
