Do you agree the employees should be fired if they sell a Mature rated game to a kid under the age of seventeen?

i dont think they should get fired...

because its just plain retarted for someone to lose their job for selling a video game to a minor.

Not right away, but if it is happening often then yes. Cause the rating are there for a reason. And the lot of kids can't differentiate real life from video games, so it also gives false images on certian things. Like GTA for example, I would never let my kids play that at a young age, cause then it does implant in their minds that, that is a part of life.

I thought the ESRB rating on games was just a guide for parents. I didn't know was was a rule against selling mature games to younger kids.

Not all children are the same, that's what these ******ed people who don't want M rated games sold at stores/to minors don't understand.

How many times in the news have you seen some kid killing a ****-load of people and then say "I did it because I play GTA and Counterstrike."......I never have, I've seen people find out that the killer played a certain game and they blame it on the game or some other game just so they can blame somebody.

Oh so and so cause a car crash that killed 10 people....oh look they played Mario Kart Double Dash :O

In my opinion games that involve violence (ex.GTA,GOW,MK) actually supress the need to commit violent acts.

ex. You get angry because some person did something to you (I don't care what). You go home angry and I guantee you if you sit down and play some GTA after a while you will feel better because you spent all those violent thoughts in the game.

I for one have been playing violent games since I was a wee lad and I'm not some deranged psychopath, on the contrary I'm probably one of the brightest people here. Now yes there are some people who shouldn't ever play those kind of games, but there's no way you're going to stop them because they will (and trust me they will) find a way to play them.

That's my rant after 3 hours of sleeping and waking back up......it's probably not on topic but oh well, I'm off to try to stay awake for another 48 hours......goodbye darlings :3

I don't think anyone should get fired over selling a mature game to a minor. But maybe game stores could start requiring a photo ID.

I know some stores do that for music with explicit lyrics. They ask that you prove you're 18 to be able to buy the music. If you can't prove it, then you don't get the CD.

I think adults should be more aware of what games their kids are playing too. Most of the San Andreas sales were by parents buying the game for their kids.

    I could go on a rant about that last note but I think I'll just end it here. oo;

Where i buy my games,i can purchase M rated games and T and whatnot, but only when i got an adult with me.But i dont think employees should get fired. Its not the employee's job to tell the kid what the game possess. Its like saying that Black market dealers should go to jail for selling illegal weapons???Which they should because its the buyer's decision and responsability of what their buying.

It's a tough call. Something like this is completely situational so I couldn't really say myself.

i wanted this game that was an 18 and i was like 14 at the time (we were in GAME btw). i was with my dad so we both went up to the till and the guy said "you do realise this is an 18?" and my dad said yeah and we bought it. the guy knew it was for me but couldnt do anything as my dad was technically buying it.
as has been mentioned, it depends entirely on the circumstances.

If it was a game like GTA then yes most them the things in that game I wish I never saw till I was 16-17 but if it's a game like project zero then I'll have to say no since it's just like a ghosts story but in a game so I think it's more about what's in the game then the rating. but if a kid about 11-12 tried to buy a game they was too youge for I wouldn't sell it them

A sale is a a sale, but most gaming stores are obligated to ask anyone purchasing a mature game title to show proof that they are 18 and over.

Well, it kind of depends on the individual. If, for instance, the person was a mature 16-year-old, then why not? I mean...I played a Mature game when I was 10 or 11...so if the kid is easily scared, then they shouldn't sell them the game.

I'm not sure how they would know that, though...perhaps they should just lower the age requirement a little.

Quite simply yes they should. If they are mulitple offenders of it they should be fired for it. They are breaking the law. Selling an 18 game to someone underage is just as bad as selling alcohol or cigarettes to someone underage. Films have a stricter policy on 18 films, and games should be the same. Games IMO have a greater influence on the mind since you are involved in the game more than watching a film. Games has had a big effect on my imagination, so giving a minor a mature game at a young age is going to effect them. As for being 15-16 and are mature, well there has to be a cut-off somewhere, if you are too young then well tough really.

This is the ESRB we're talking about here.

I would not be surprised by this. Of course, the experience and situation would determine the factors. Therefore, I have no solid answer.

Actually, you need an ID to buy a rated mature game.

A lot of shops ask for ID, i've been asked a few times. My mum was buying me a game that was rated 16+ & the shop asked who she was buying it for & what age they were.

Anyway i think they should get fired or at least a warning, & if they do it more than once they should get fired for sure. I agree with Darkandroid & that games do affect people's minds, either positively or negatively. Selling a kid an 18 rated game isn't good for them.
