Because it's lazy game design
There's a difference between being forced to do everything twice in order to beat the game and doing everything twice because "you liked it last time"
I WILL BE THE JUDGE of if the level was fun enough for me to do it a second time but with extra gimmicks to make it "different" and to fight the same boss a second time.
Not the game.

It's like how in Kingdom Hearts 2 they felt the need to go "HEY! THIS LEVEL WAS FUN RIGHT!? THEN DO IT AGAIN! Huh? Why not just go to a new world? **** THAT ****! IT WAS A FUN LEVEL! DO IT AGAIN!"

 

It's a good title when you don't look at it as a Devil May Cry game, and rather its own thing.

Dante is a sloppy character, the demons (and Dante when talking to them) are vulgar and vile, and the set pieces are magnificent. Fun game.

...Rising's still better.

 

Except KHII wasn't even fun the first time soooo

I managed to get some joy out of it. Atleast Final Mix+
But yes, Reflega all day err day was a little "bleh"

Go ahead, poke around the KH sections, you'll find me carrying on about it eventually

Granted it's mostly the gameplay I hate I'm sure you can tell I don't mind the characters HEE HONK WHOOPSY DAISY but Thor almighty do I hate it

It's my least favorite in the series thus far on mechanics alone

 

Character designs were fine, as it's what Nomura does best, but the narrative and the scenes just never used them.
