I see no problem with losing humanity if in turn we gain something better.
Why is thinking like a human being so much better then any other thought process?

Are you trying to become a god?
And you know it is a better way of thinking then? What about change is ever truly planned for?

Human thinking is what we know, and it has untapped potential still waiting to be found.

I do not believe god is the only thing that is above human.
I believe we have the capability to become something that is better then human both physically and mentally.
I don't KNOW that a new way of thinking is better but I'm human, it's in my nature to reach for things beyond my grasp and I would rather try to achieve this new way of life then not try.

One would continue to consider such human, no? If one goes about it in such a way, then humans have indeed been continually progressing mentally and physically for many centuries, either through biological evolutionary means or things such as social progression.
The definition of human is very slippery and expandable.

    Depends
As the generations go by it's very possible that people would forget what it's like to be human in the first place and would use the term to differ themselves with a previous generation. Or maybe not.
We have been evolving slowly overtime but all that evolution is still hindered by one major barrier called death and that is the barrier that I feel needs to be broken before we can make the next big step in human evolution just as the breaking of the sound barrier led to an entirely new generation of super sonic jets, the speed of sound was nothing to us anymore.
The only major step we've had within the last 30 years or so is the ability to control our own reproduction rate with birth control as well as the ability to create life through means other then sex.

You say that but you do not know. You say it is better, but why should it be better? Physically, you can rust, and slow and you can not repair yourself like the body does. A virus could corrupt everything, you could be reduced to death a fragment. You could not desire to do anything more then is required, without emotions what will drive you?

You would try another life then your own. You have not tried in your own life, but you can forsake all you have now for a sci-fi idea? It
seems silly to have faith in an idea that you haven't worked on.

Except you're forgetting how advanced robotics are at now, let alone in 2040. Seriously, we have full fledged mechas now for a million dollars. If they were to try this, they'd overcome a problem like that.

    Also, transhumanism.

Why not just use telomere thing-a-majigs like in Chaos Rings?

    Read my post again
I never said I knew EXACTLY if it was going to better or not but I said that I would rather try to obtain it then sit back and wonder what could have been.
Of course there are going to be negatives but it's our job to fight against those negatives and keep on moving forward. The idea is to eliminate the weaknesses of the human body, hunger, disease, fatigue and perhaps even the mental weaknesses such as potential chemical imbalances in the brain.

What exactly do you mean by I have not tried in my own life? If I have something then that's great but if I see the potential to have something more then I'll try and obtain it, I've always been taught not to settle for second best.

Also sci-fi idea? Trans humanism has been on the rise for quite a while now, it's projected that you will be able to replace your limbs for more efficient ones within your lifetime.

This is gonna be for the rich only. Then there gonna be a war between the augmented people who live forever, and the rest of us who can't afford it (or maybe just religious nuts who are angry because science is trying to laugh in God's face or something) and BOOM. World War III.

Someone make a movie about this.

I am against Transhumanism, it is not needed. It is a desire. It is a toy.

For people who need it to survive, that is fine, but when everyone has access, what then? People think life improves, but in the end, nothing changes. We will still have wars, and chaos, and famine, and viruses all in new forms. The same problems still arise. It is the way of nature, no matter how you fight it.

    Lemme guess, religious?

    >Humans have been leaning on technology since they could walk upright
    >Combining with technology creating a controllable evolution with no peak

It's needed to take the next step.
The problems that you listed are problems with human nature. There is no guarantee that human nature will be the same after taking the next step.
I must say it's pretty overly pessimistic to believe that human beings will always be a prisoner in nature's trap and there' s nothing we can do about it ever.

Am I the only one who sees the contradiction?

Survival is not needed. It is a desire. It is a toy.

You suggest stagnation as morally superior. Why?

I was thinking more on the correlation between the terms survival and evolution and how joint of terms they are as far as his contras go, but that works too, yo.

I want trans-humanism so I can get metal blades placed inside of my arms, sun glasses attached to my face and go around the world stealing chocolate bars from maximum security research facilities.

Don't say you want metal blades inside your face. Some users here would jump at that chance. :P
