Nope. Cybermen still have brains and nerves and are modified to not feel emotions.

Why is this making me think of the concepts in Fractale.

An anime from a year or so ago with an apparently lovely concept but an apparently horrible execution.
It dealt with something called the Fractale System which used similar hard-light holographic "avatars" of people, of sorts, if I recall correctly.
Amusingly enough, it was a bit dystopian apparently?

I'm surprised how many people would want to live forever, or even want other people to live forever.

This is as morally ambiguous as teleportation. Still, it's all in the name of science!

You' re reffering to the fact that what they call "you" is actually a clone ? Yeah, I wonder what they intend to do with your actual brain once it' s been digitalized, they weren' t clear on that. If the deal is to kill you in order to create an approximative robotic clone then they have a funny definition of immortality. Besides, Seifer was spot on when he mentioned Ghost In The Shell, there would be several catch, for instance :

    - A cyborg is not immortal, just more resistant. His body wouldn' t come cheap and it would also need a pricey maintenance (somehow I doubt planned obsolescence won' t be around anymore). What would become of those who can' t keep up with the bills ?

    - Cyborgs are not humans, so ... what are their rights exactly ? Who would want to hire them ?

    - If you know your consciousness can be tampered with or plain made up then you cannot tell for sure if you are indeed you or just a creation that fits someone else' s agenda. Hello mental breakdown.

Only the insane have mental breakdowns about weather there's an afterlife or not.
I doubt people would have mental breakdowns about if they are them or not. And given the fact that we human use such little amounts of our brain there's no way we could properly identify what our consciousness is in the first place

Of course laws would have to be modified so that people would have different rights.
And you're also forgetting exactly what each country considers a human.

That' s not what I meant, I meant how would you know for sure you haven' t been hacked ? See the 2 first minutes here :

Last time I checked it was a mammal. I get where you' re going with this, but we don' t know yet how "human" their digital ersatz would actually be.

I've seen Ghost in the Shell and I'm saying how are you sure right now that you aren't in a computer progrom ala the Matrix?
How do you know you aren't the side effects of some alien experimentation?
Unless you show significant signs of being hacked then you have no reason to believe that you have been hacked other then "it's possible"

Also that's the SCIENTIFIC definition of a human.
Several countries don't follow a scientific definition. For the longest time females were not considered humans in Canada and America.

This. All of this. Plus, assuming that a soul exists...what would happen to that after the original body dies? I don't care about opinions on whether or not it exists, it's just an interesting "What if?" to ask yourself.

All this talk about cyborgs is just making me think of the Terminator movies. And Data from Star Trek. Though they're both androids and not cyborgs.

They do, and that implies that all things in the category that is the species Homo sapiens are entitled to those rights, which I'm guessing isn't the case in most countries. We call it "Human Rights" here too. Personal Rights would be a much better name. I've hated the term "human rights" ever since I first heard it.
