Final Fantasy XIII: Slaves of Fate

Jaden did as told and again, turned tail and ran.
I swear... I've been running none-stop today... he thought back to how he had tried to catch up the group earlier today and how everything had gone through to this moment.
"What about Leo and Grey though? I mean... I know the way things are we can't really..." he trailed off for a second.
"But what then?" he asked to no one in particular, just anyone that would hear him.

 

"So be it."

Omega Weapon channeled a fraction of his energy into a small blue orb of light in front of him. Within seconds, the small energy ball emitted a light capable of blinding everything in sight and, as if on command of his roar, immediately erupted into a giant wave of energy many times larger than what was shown at earlier: Wave Cannon: 50% Power. Anything caught in the laser would be vaporized on contact. With it being nighttime, the brightness of the attack can clearly be seen from a distance.

Looking behind at the creature and then back at Lightning, he wasn't sure what attack Omega Weapon was going to unleash but only knew that it would be fatal. So as a last ditch effort to save themselves Shinryu tightly grabbed Lightning's wrist and forced her off both Odin and the cliff with him; what Lightning did with Odin was up to her. With his free arm he jammed his lance deep into the cliffside in order to break their fall and come to a complete stop. Let's hope this is enou- His thoughts were interrupted as the Wave Cannon flew past above him. As his eyes had already adjusted to the darkness, the sudden burst of light nearly blinded him but his grip on her didn't loosen. Shin wasn't completely sure if they were following the others or not, but if they were, they should be able to see the blast coming and have enough time to avoid it...right?

OOC: Are Ryou and the others with him heading into the Springs? I don't believe it was clear as to where they were going.

 

OOC: @Graxe, I think so. According to Ryou's last post, he was hoping to go in the same direction as the others. Btw, everyone, make sure you catch up on the Datalog. There's some things I need to discuss with everyone~

"AGH!" Leo leaped forward knowing Grey would attack from the back, but Grey's blade was longer. Leo spun around, ignoring the slash on his back and slammed his right foot on the ground. The moment his foot made contact with the dirt, a column of earth came out an angle so the apex would slam into Grey's chest. First Stone and now... Leo spun around, lowering his body, and moving forward, slashing his sword horizontally. The plan was for Grey to dodge Stone and suffer Leo's counterslash. Leo could hear ruckus and see flashes from up above, but he assumed it Lightning fighting the Tonberry."

As long as I have a want. I have a reason for living. Satisfaction is death.

"An obedient l'Cie in this day and age? What a shocker," Cid grinned as he approached Jenny and took a knee. "I'm ready, mistress."

Jenny smiled and winked at Ren. "You shall find both them and their Focus out soon enough. For now, Cidolfu's destiny is more urgent." As she said it, she approached Cid and placed a hand on his head. "Cidolfu Orlandu, my first Crystal l'Cie and my most trusted warrior. I bestow upon you a gift!"She watched Cid's body glow and fade quickly. She could feel his power increasing. On his left forearm, a design started to make itself out. "A second branding to go along with your original Focus. And with this branding comes all of its...benefits." She smiled as Cid stood up, a strange grin on his face.

King Tonberry was not about to let this newcomer beast ruin his vengeance. It leaped towards Lightning and Shinryu...only to be annihilated by a blue beam coming from the new beast.

Leo's initial slash missed as Grey jumped back. Leo silently cursed how Grey had the longer blade. However, his body reacted quickly, quicker than it normally would have. Still low to the ground, Leo's wrist turned and made the sharp edge of Heretic face the outside. "Don't you dare say his name, you traitor!" He yelled as he swung, causing his blade to hit Grey's. He quickly put his left hand on the back of the blade and pushed, intending to make Grey fall on his back. Unfortunately, Grey was leaning forward while Leo was semi-squatting, putting him in an uncomfortable position.

Mya passed next to Jayden. They're probably dead. If not, the Tonberries would finish them off. Her mind kept replaying the memory when Leo let go and fell.

 

"Naivete and innocence. Such is the mind of youth."
"DON'T SAY HIS NAME!" Leo yelled it as he fell backwards in order to lessen Grey's slash while simultaneously throwing up his left hand. "Damn it, Grey, BURN!" A ball of flame erupted from his left palm, covering the small distance between his palm and Grey's chest. Just like Grey, Leo knew using a spell, Fire in this instant, was risky since he should have tried to avoid Grey's attack instead, but the advantage of hitting Grey outweighed the risk of getting cut. He yelled as Grey's Ensparked blade cut his chest, nonetheless, and fell, but quickly switched into Sentinel role as he hit the ground.

Mia looked at Mya and looked away. She turned to her back to Mya, she still felt down about watching Snow become crystal but she wasn't going to let that stop her from trying to save him. Mia touched his bandanna and walked in front of Mya, a look of determination on her face. 'Are you going to let that incident control you from now on? I am still down about Snow becoming crystal, but I'm not letting that control my actions. The hero is counting on us to save him, Cocoon, and Gran Pulse. We have to look to the future, not the past.' She mouthed and walked away.

 

Jaden sighed.
"Mia's right, Mya.
Unless... I read her mouthing wrong..." he scratched his head.
"Look, we have to have faith in each other. Those two are tough, and I know Leo... he wouldn't give up no matter what. He's just as much of a stubborn dumbass as me." Jaden grinned.
"Grey... well... is Grey. Enough said." he shrugged.
"Either way.. listen, it's not your fault or anything at all. You were the only one who made it to them in time to even try and help them. Despite all the odds against us. We're Team Oerba right?
We'll pull through no matter what it takes! Booya!" he shouted, trying to hype himself and the others up.

 

Odin disappeared the second Shin pulled her off the Eidolin's back. Light dangled there, at the mercy of Shin. If he choosed so, he could drop her. Gripping his arm tightly with what strength she had left, Light switched to her Medic role and slowly eased Cura into Shin from her arm to his. She didn't want to shock him with an intense healing while they dangled there. "Shinryu...I don't mean to alarm you but...I can't..." with that her eyes closed and she fell limply unconscious.

Akira ran after Jaden and Mia and Mya. "Wh-what about Lightning?! Where are we going? Please can we stop....for just a second?" she begged. Hoping to see Light's pink head behind her and the boy who Light had reacted so strangely to.

Jaden slowed himself down. "Hey guys... I don't think there's any harm in slowing down at least...
I mean, I trust in the old lady. But... I'm a little worried myself." Jaden said to back Akira up.
Also, he still wasn't sure about this 'Shinryu' guy... or as Jaden had aptly nicknamed him for now: 'Dragonboy.'

 

Second branding, huh? Ren thought to himself, So what, if he fails his focus now he becomes a very Cie'th?
He then looked at the Crystal L'Cie, being slightly disturbed at the grin that he was giving, and wondered just what kind of 'benefits' the Fal'Cie-girl was refering to. He quickly decided that it would probably be a bad idea to find out, and turned back to the Fal'Cie-girl to see what more she might say.

 

When Lightning went limp, Shinryu gave it his all to both pull her up on the lance and not letting her go. The healing did help a little, as it gave him some of his lost strength, and he was successful in pulling her up but not without wearing out again. Looking up he saw that Omega Weapon's attack heavily eroded way the cliff and brought the edge down closer to them, only a couple feet away in fact. The boy took both hands on the polearm and started to swing back and forth, building momentum to make pulling himself up easier. When on his feet, Shin picked up Lightning and carefully brought her over to where they were before. He felt Omega Weapon's cold, soulless eyes on him and stared back. One wouldn't know if what was in his eyes was exhaustion, rage, fear, or any combination of those. "Leave us, Omega," he thought, knowing the monster would hear it.

"I will let the two of go for now, Divine Dragon. Do not forget that it was you who changed everyone's future all those years ago and that the true future has long since been thrown into the Darkness Beyond Time."

Sensing more magic being used below he ran down the cliff to find its source. It would normally take about an hour or so, but with his size and speed it would only be a matter of minutes before he found Leo and Grey.

Magic meant there was power. One of the uses of Model VI specifically was to test and judge that power and thus it was built with the instinct to search out magical sources. If the power was deemed unworthy, it would be destroyed with its source. Fal'Cie, l'Cie, beast, or machine, it didn't matter what it was. Weapons do not discriminate.

 

Mya didn't say a word as she silently walked with them. I should say something. Staying silent won't help anyone at all. Then again, I'm not very good with suggestions and whatnot...What should I do?

 

Ryou stopped running and heard the others as he tried to catch what there was of his breath. "Light is Light, knowing her during the training sessions, she'll be fine, that Shinryu guy is an ally I think, we do need all the help we can get now." He said to them, air coming back to his lungs.

"All we can do is survive and try to get rid of these Brands." He said, checking his brand, if it weren't so terrifying, it'd be a tattoo to show off.

 

OOC: So it's been brought to my attention that we totally overlooked a post earlier by Black_Star xD We effectively killed off his character by accident >> So I'll address that with this post~

Not having many attack choices as a Sentinel, Leo simply somersaulted backwards onto his feet and leaped forward, slashing diagonally upwards at Grey. A Steelguard was ready for Grey's synergized counter strike. "Just what do you hope to accomplish, Grey?!" He yelled as he slashed.

As long as I have a want. I have a reason for living. Satisfaction is death.

"I can't wait to test this out," Cid grinned as he studied his body. There was nothing different, aside from the brand on his arm, but he could feel his power more than double. It was, for the lack of a better word, arousing. "What are you going to do now, Mistress?" He asked as he grabbed the bottom seam of his blue shirt and ripped a portion of it off.

Jenny spun around in a small dance and whispered a single word, "Cocoon." She stopped, looked at Ren and then at Cid and said, "Certain matters require my attention, or shall I say, Jenny's attention." She smiled as she faded into thin air. "Cidolfu, please do not let Omega destroy any of my l'Cie. He seems to be troubling them," her voice rang through the apex, though her body was now gone.



Cid nodded as he wrapped the ripped part of his shirt over his forearm, concealing the brand. "The pleasure shall be all mine," as he said, crystal wings erupted from his back and his right hand became a large claw again. He was back in his battle mode, but there was still no change in his physical appearance. His eyes flashed at Ren once and, in an instant, a Wyvern Knight was beside him. The dark brown bipedal beast was twice the size of Cid's battle form and its wingspan was huge. It let out a low growl. Over its eyes were the same brand that Leo's allies had, the same brand hidden somewhere on Cid's body. "Looks like I can summon stronger stuff now," he said as he looked at his claw, "Guess what, boy? I use to not be able to do this in this form. Oh my, I'm so excited!" He turned around and jumped onto the railing. "You just go on and fulfil your Focus. I'll see you on the other side, boy!" And with that, Cid jumped off the apex. Cid's glassy body flew down so fast he was almost invisible. Within seconds, he had passed all 43 floors of the tower and was gliding down the cliff. Another second passed and a large gust of wind blew past Shinryu and Lightning. There you are, you Eidolon freak, he thought as Omega's monstrous form appeared. Cid swiped his hand and a small Blizzard spell flew towards Omega. A weak spell, but at the speed it was traveling, it should get his attention.
Meanwhile, the Wyvern Knight flew at Ren and grabbed him with its feet as it also flew over the apex.



Dahaka watched everything with its figurine-like face. It watched the Tonberry King and Omega attack the l'Cie. It watched Leo and Grey fall off the cliff. It watched the blur of light zoom past everything. However, it was under strict orders not to interfere. As the cliffside started to calm down as the battle moved down it with Omega, Dahaka quickly floated towards Jaden and Ryou's group. It floated down in front of them with its large hands clasped together, blocking their way.

"Oh come on! Can't we just catch a single break?!" Jaden called out dramatically to the heavens as Dahaka blocked their path.
Although... it didn't seem to be attacking them.. and it was holding the L'cie boy from before on the top of the tower, the one who didn't seem to know what side he was on..
"...Riiiiiiight.. Okaaay....." he muttered. Jaden being the laid back guy he was, was rarely surprised or shocked by anything. But... especially after today's events, he figured he probably wouldn't ever be surprised by anything again.
