Final Fantasy XIII: Slaves of Fate

Ryou was amazed by odin's form but a bit frightened of the wrath of Light, he sure as hell didn't want to be those Tonberries right now. "Mia, take Jaden and run." He said calmly as he looked at her, a look giving no arguements. "Leo, you too."

He saw Akira having the look of fear and perhaps afraid Odin will harm her if she wasn't careful where he was as Ryou ran foward before sliding underneath one of Odin's huge sword as he swung and grabbed Light by the shoulder, as much as he hated to admit it, he really didn't want to tick her off any further but surviving was also important rather than dying by Tonberries.

"Lig- whoa!" He noticed her shift and gave a look that spoke 'I'm in a really bad mood and not up for any conversation.' and Ryou was thinking in his mind. "...She's frightening..." he thought but shook himself out of his thoughts before grasping Light's sword arm, stopping her. "I know your angry but now's not the time for sacrificing your strength here just so you let vent out some anger, save it for when it really matters!" He said to her, keeping as calm he could after all that's happened.

"We're gonna save Serah and Snow, killing Tonberries right here and now isn't going to help anyone in the long run, I promise I'll help you accomplish those goals so let's retreat rather than waste time, I'd rather see someone I care about live for another day than lose herself in a rage." Ryou continued and stared at her.

 

"No." The word was almost a whisper, but Leo directed it at Ryou. He bent down slowly and grabbed the handle of his gunblade without taking his eyes of the Tonberries. "I'm staying," he told Ryou as he stood up. Leo's mind was a blur right now, but there was still one thing on his mind. Revenge. He looked at the bandanna on Mia's arm and clenched his fist around Heretic. "I'M NOT GOING ANYWHERE!" He suddenly yelled as he ran forward and slashed at the first Tonberry. Of course, he missed. But that was not the point. He swung around, spinning, to slash the moving Tonberry. It dodged again. Still, it wasn't the point.

"The fal'Cie," Cid's voice rang through the springs behind Omega, "Such strange creatures. Well, at least to me. I don't know what you consider strange, Omega." Cid was intent on leaving, but he had almost forgotten about his latest order. Still in his crystal form, Cid's body shimmered as he approached his 'ally.' "Hell, I consider you stranger than most fal'Cie I've encountered!" Just like Omega before him, Cid paid no mind to Ren, despite that being the main reason he was there. "Omega," Suddenly serious, Cid's voice dropped, "You know who Muin is, don't you?"

 

Jaden consumed the potion and stood groggily.
"Fine... let's just confront one of the most powerful creatures on Pulse... sure... I'm up for that.
Since everyone else is.
It's not my style to think things through anyway." he smirked.
He dropped to one knee... Damn... I want to fight... Can I in this state though?...
Something then seemed to shift inside Jaden, and his hands started to glow green.
He swiped it through the air and a orb of green light flew around him and tore through his body. He suddenly felt a bit better.
"Wait... I'm... I'm a Medic?
Booya! That just means I can fight even harder!"
He cast cure on himself a few more times and stood upright again.
He pulled out his Katana and shifted to Commando.
Jaden charged after Leo. "Hey buddy! You need to calm down, and you need to save some for me!" he called out.

 

Mia gripped her spear and smiled, her blade glowed red. Smiling, Mia ran to the Tonberry, engaging her Commando abilities. She stepped Jaden, and slashed at the Tonberry. Eying the bandanna, she thought to herself, 'You will be saved, Snow. Both you and Serah.......................'

 

Noticing the two men conversing near him, Ren took cover behind a large, cracked rock, which looked to have once been part of the canyon walls. Damn he thought to himself, I can't hear what they're saying from here! Quickly deciding that he would rather be able to hear them than stay safe, Ren crept slowly from his cover, making sure to stay out of sight of either of the people that had seemingly just appeared. Getting a good distance closer, Ren peered carefully over a particularly lichen-covered rock, hoping to notice details about his mysterious guests. While he couldn't see their faces, even from this distance, he recognised that there was something distinctly strange with them. Almost as though something was just wrong with them being anywhere at all. Deciding to push his luck further, he tried to get an even closer look, even if it was only at one of them.

 

Shin looked back at the others, unaware about a nearby Tonberry crafting a stone statuette of him. Odin's appearance into battle didn't strike him in awe, but just a necessary tool for survival. But everyone started to annoy him for all the little the things they were doing that he considered to be wrong. For example, never mass kill Tonberries in a short time or else the Tonberry King will show itself and take revenge on its fallen brethren. Everyone knew about this simple fact back in his day, but he wasn't sure if that was still being taught. He even remembers making this mistake himself during his l'Cie training one night. If he recalled correctly, the king was about ten times as big as a normal Tonberry with a large knife and lantern to match. And it's version of Karma was fueled by revenge and became amplified by how many of its kind were killed. He desperately wanted to shout for them to stop before physically stopping them but-

"AAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!" The sound of a sharp knife shattering solid rock rang through the air with Shinryu's scream. His chest was radiating excruciating pain, like someone impaled him with a giant sword. The Tonberry that attacked him with Voodoo sounded like it laughed as Shin dropped to the ground cold, unconscious and barely clinging to life.

OOC: By "giant sword", think something along the lines of the Buster Sword.

BIC: Just when I thought I got rid of him. He responded to Cid in a whisper, "Of course I know Muin. The conflict between her and her son was one of the first things Pulse informed us about. That was long before humanity even came to exist." He looked at Cid, trying to figure out his intent. "Why do you ask? Is that who the 'Calamity from the Skies' is?" he asked, remembering one of the titles people called that other Jenova he knew.

 

Mya switched to Synergist and started hasting and Protecting them all. She then switched back to Commando and fired upon the Tomberries

 

Shinryu regained consciousness for a bit. Though his chest was still in pain, he got up on his feet. An burning rage soon came over him, one of the few remains of his dragon self. To him in this state, it didn't matter if you were friend or foe. Everything needed to die. After sweeping any nearby Tonberries off the canyon with a Blitz, Shinryu jumped high in the air towards Lightning and Odin to skewer another Tonberry near them. He coughed out a little blood after he landed, a sign that his body was starting to give out again, but that didn't stop him from continuing the fight. When he pulled his weapon out of the ground he made a downward swing that sent the Tonberry flying into Grey. Making use of only Blitz, low swings, sweeps, and the occasional Launch followed by Smite, he began knocking most of the Tonberries off the canyon.

 

Leo noticed something weird about the Tonberries as he watched everyone fight them while he finally landed a hit on one. They were weaker than a normal Tonberry and smaller, albeit slightly, than them. Great, they're only Junior Tonberries, he thought as the temperature on his blade increased just as he skewered his first victim.

"Calamities of the Skies?" Cid asked, a glass eyebrow curving. "If you mean Jenova, then no. Prepare for a history lesson, but first..." Cid turned around and raised a hand towards where Ren was standing, "You're needed elsewhere, boy. No one likes an eavesdropper!" His arm started to glow pink and the glow then encompassed Ren. "Your destiny awaits. Embrace your fate as a tool!" He said it with a laugh before Ren disappeared. Ren would find himself on the crystallized remains on the apex of Taejin Towers, right in front of Snow's "statue." Cid turned back to Omega and shrugged, "Sorry, but he's Lightning's new...motivation."

Cid thought for a moment about how to start and then kneeled down, staring at Bismarck. "The fal'Cie of this planet are not Gods. You know that, Omega, right? And the Gods of this planet aren't the Makers, well...sort of," Cid realized he never had to explain what Jenova told him before. "When that stubborn son of a Maker defeated his mother, the one we call Muin, she left for the 'other side.' With the Mother of All gone, the prodigal son decided he can't be the god of a doomed world. So matricide became his only option." Cid laid on his back, imagining the story in his mind as he said it. "He created Hallowed Pulse, the first fal'Cie and the first God fal'Cie. The one who branded you, correct?"

 

Jaden struck another Tonberry down.
Tonberry's were dangerous, but who cares he told himself.
... Although, against this many Tonberry's in theory they should already be dead.
In fact, the earlier attack still should have been enough to kill him.
So either he was just SO AWESOME THAT HE DIDN'T DIE, EVEN WHEN KILLED!
or...
Something was different about these Tonberry's.
He would have much preferred to believe the first option, 'cause that sort of skill would come in handy.
But... as he had the thought, he did notice that the Tonberry's did in fact have slight differences. Slightly smaller, and perhaps a bit paler? Of course, it was hard to tell due to the light change as the day had gone by... but yes. These weren't normal Tonberry's.
They'd lucked out and encountered Junior Tonberry's. Still annoying and powerful enough that they would be hard to beat... but they weren't screwed against these guys at least.

 

Ryou sliced at a Junor Tonberry and jumped back to avoid it's knife as he cast Aero upon the creature, sending it soaring into the air as Ryou was covered ina light of red, becoming Commando as he lept up towards it, striking it in mid-air. "Enjoy your flight!" He cried otu as the Junior Tonberry landed in the ground by the natural force of gravity and soon he did too but stabbed his nodachi straight throught what was it's stomach.

 

"Don't waste your breath, Cid," Omega said in a calm tone. Raising a hand over the water, he shined a light down into the depths. The reflecting light projected rapidly changing images of a world scarred by war, two hazy beings fighting it out ending with the clearly feminine being disappearing into the skies, ending with the creation of the Pulse, Etro, and Lindzei. "We know the tale. Don't we, Bismarck?" When the light faded, he returned his arm back to his side. "The memories of Buniberzei, or whatever his name was, about that time were passed down to Pulse, Lindzei, and Etro when he created them which were then passed down to us upon our creation, in case you're wondering about that. Now if you're going to tell me something I don't know, get to it."

Shinryu dropped to his knees, using his lance as support. His body began to shake violently. His breathing grew fast and was coughing up more blood. The adrenaline rush from his rage burned off and the pain from the attack before returned sharply, causing him to grab his chest. The Tonberry that hit him with Voodoo earlier was definitely not a Junior like these, but one of genuine article. He looked up at Grey weakly and nodded in agreement before darting his eyes at his surroundings to see any sign of the King.

 

Quite suddenly Ren found himself on the top of the tower, though he couldn't have known that was where he was. He looked around himself sharply, for some clue as to where he now was. Seeing nothing but crystal in every direction, his thoughts turned back to the two men he had seen. Teleportation magic? he thought to himself, If he used magic, that must mean he's a L'Cie? And what was it he said? Embrace my fate as a tool... so that means...
He suddenly realized the implications of the man's words, and looked around in a panic, trying to find some way out of what he knew must come next.

 

Tap Tap Tap Tap. The sound of quick footsteps running across the earth suddenly made itself loud enough to be heard. Suddenly, a large shadow appeared over the l'Cie. A King Tonberry appeared on the cliff above the others just as the last of its subjects was defeated. Ten times the size of a normal Tonberry and ten times as powerful, the King Tonberry only lacked the speed of a normal one. It saw the last of its subject fall and lifted up a knife (the knife was still the same size as a normal Tonberry's), signaling the start of a battle. It swiped the small knife through the air and jumped. It landed right in front of Leo and Grey, causing the ground to shake due to its massive size. It aimed its knife at Odin.

"THE HELL?!" If there was one thing Leo was unprepared for, it was the sheer size of the King Tonberry landing in front of him. The force of the Tonberry's fall sent Leo flying over the edge of the cliff. In front of him was a King Tonberry, then the blue sky, then the crystallized tower, and then the side of the cliff as he fell to an abyss. "No!" He yelled as he threw his arm up and grabbed the first thing his arms touched.

"Testy, testy," Cid told Omega. "Fine, short version then," he raised a finger and pointed to Bismarck. "See that? He's a 'machine' fal'Cie. You know who Orphan is, right? I mean, who doesn't? Orphan is what I call a 'first' Fal'Cie. Now for the Makers, Lindzei, Pulse, and even Etro! Those are the Makers of Buniberzei, son of Muin. Jenova is also a Maker, but Muin made her. The Calamity Jenova, Fell Lindzei, Hallowed Pulse, and the Goddess Etro. All four of them are 'Makers' and all four of them are God Fal'Cie."

 

Mya swung around, hearig the tap and then the king. What in blazes is that??? She then saw it jump and land, making her wobble a bit. She suddenly saw Leo thrown off the side and ran towards him. She jumped offthe cliff, grabbing his arm with one hand and grabbing on the edge of the cliff with the other. Don't you dare let go...

 

Suddenly there was a shaking all around them and everything went to hell.
"What the- ..." he shouted looking up at the arrival of the King Tonberry. "...OH GOD DAMN!"
He looked around at the others, they had lucked out with junior Tonberry's but... this... was a King Tonberry.
Their luck was out. "I'm sorry, I don't care if I'm not the boss around here, but there ain't no one fighting that thing!" he yelled as the King Tonberry made a move, and Leo and Grey went flying.
"Guys!" Jaden called out, making it to the cliff in time to just see Leo and Grey plummet, while Mya was still hanging onto the edge for dear life.
He grabbed her arm and started to help her back up. Not caring if his back was to an enemy, his friends... (even though some friends were in the presence of that enemy) ...friends in need came first.
